Hey y'all,

For our Fan Favorites video this month, we're going to be selecting songs that have already been included on my 'Master List' for future episodes and videos. I recently posted the most current update of the list...which simply reflects the recommended, curated, & researched short list of music that I'm most often selecting from for Daily Doug episodes, Extended Play Lounges, Behind the Score, and even our Council of Dougs hangouts.

About twice a year, I plan to take a month and get to the songs that are on this list that are deemed the most overdue and desired by the community.

So...ROUND 1...

I've selected 25 potential candidates (The maximum that Patreon allows in a poll). PICK UP TO 10 that you would prioritize first. (Note that I've purposely omitted some of our favorite bands to prioritize these other musicians this time around.)

Then, next week, we'll take the top thirteen from this round and re-vote for final placement. I'll be including a total of about 45 minutes of music for the video.

This round will go all this week. We're using the honor system for voting...keep it to 10, please! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Happy voting!

Anekedoten is underrated very Opeth sounding. Big Big Train.

Lots of great choices. The "Autumn Suite" by Strawbs is the perfect intro into Fall and Winter, and should be reviewed in the autumn at some point. "Low Spark" is equally appealing and also a full meal. Some of the other short singles may not be a full meal. "Biko" is great but over so soon. Hejira may be a full meal as well. Sigur Ros too.

Take that Peter Gabriel out, too many genesis + pg already in the channel. Sad that FUBB aint gonna make it.

Agree with the Strawbs and Traffic. "Biko" comes in two flavors, which you'll have to choose from. The studio version and a live version. I'd stick with the studio. If you do this one, please look up Steven Biko's story first, so you can clue your listeners in. Maybe even let us know what happened to the guy... [To Chris below: Oh yeah. Nevermind. To Illume below: Okay, you've convinced me. I'll second your vote. :} ]

I liked 7 of the choices presented, and so voted. The only thing that bothers me in all the possibilities is having "Old and Wise" represent the Alan Parsons Project. He (they, actually, as he writes and records with Eric Wolfsson) had a dozen albums with a number of great tracks. I remember Doug saying that this list is computer generated (from the Discord site?) so I guess I have no one to blame or complain to... so, nevermind. So I'll comment on Procol Harum instead. Doug, please consider "A Whiter Shade of Pale" in the future. Would you introduce Beethoven by igoring the 5th? (Oh sure, the 9th is 4 cuts above, the pinnacle of Lud's achievement, but still, we must pander to the "motley bums of music understanding out there" [as beat poet Jack Kerouac once rapped], huh?) [Oh, Doug says below that he did it already. Well. Nevermind.]

I have two fond memories of the song. Joan Baez sang Biko at my graduation celebration, which also hosted Madiba Nelson Mandela. 350th year. A big deal. Later, Peter sang it at a wondrous Amnesty International concert with Pete, Bruce, and others...at the RFK in Philly. I bet Doug was there. 1987, I think. Tragic story about Steven though. Fine film about it.

Mark Brennan, the clue is in the first verse: the date, place and time of his death.

Illume Eltanin

My strong recommendation is the live Biko from the 1986 Amnesty International concert at Giant's Stadium. One of the most powerful live performances I've witnessed while it was broadcast live on MTV.

Chris Ramsbottom

Mark, I've put A Salty Dog in the recommendations on Discord, which I think is the pinnacle of their achievement.

Illume Eltanin

Dr. Doug, what happens to those tracks which don't make the cut? Will they remain on the list for future reactions are or they going to be culled completely?

Joakim Skurk

Come on! Let's get Wobbler the attention they deserve!

Dave Cohen

Glad to see Strawbs on the list.

Roman S Doc

Come on, give Leprous and Riverside the love they deserve! Amazing bands!

Arrow2theACL

Tough for modern bands to get votes in a poll. It's a sign of times, but I love we have this channel so they get some needed exposure.

Roman S Doc

I completely agree, I love the channel, too. But it’s really difficult to get new top prog rock/metal bands through these polls...

Yes. Homburg and Conquistador (which I first heard as a 6 year-old, and had no clue what he was on about, but really dug the music) are great too. My dad bought those kind of albums in those days and I would think the album cover of a drawing of curly hair was pretty cool. He sings "con-qwist-ta-dor, not con-kee-sta-door; that's wrong, ain't it? Yeah, don't learn English from British singers, huh? Boy, did I find out!

Ryan Perlongo

Agreed, would love to see more modern bands make the final cut

Steve Morse, of Dixie Dregs, is an extremely talented guitarist.
