Hey y'all!

What made Enter Sandman the biggest metal hit of all time!? IMO, it's the band's use of something I've been calling the "Overture Approach", and it's an amazing way to add continuity and strength to your own writing. Before James sings the first lyric, you've already been introduced to every melodic and rhythmic theme you're going to hear in the entire song! It's amazingly subtle, but super effective. Lets talk about it!

What's the BEST Metallica song, though? I think for me, its gonna be Battery!

Not a song, but the album Kill Em’ All. This is my reference for how an album should be mixed. It is so clear, defined, and tight. I take my original (from the 80’s) CD out to my bitchin Camaro that has a good system. It makes the subs work.. it POUNDS.. makes me want to crank it up even more.. bring it on!! Not all these layers of overdubs that makes it start to sound just like constant sound. Compare to loudness war winner. Death Magnetic. It is so over compressed, I can’t even listen to it. Static-y and painful when you crank it. A lot of good music is lost. My personal opinion is that modern mixing techniques are ruining music (is this ProTools?)?. .. Had to rant. Oh, been playing Seek and Destroy forever, since the 80’s. Never gets old to jam.
