Thanks so much for your support! For serious!

An odd page, admittedly, but things are happening on the other side of the Earth.

I didn't write this page intending to dump on Mozambique, but I had to decide where Galytn actually was, and based on other higher altitude maps I've drawn, it's at the southern tip of Malawai and overlaps into Mozambique slightly. The country started off about a quarter the size of Rhode Island, but has expanded considerably. Mostly directly south so Deus can connect it to the Zambezi, and then to the ocean.

I did a little research on Mozambique and it's supposedly one of the poorer African nations, is rife with corruption, and according to wikipedia, their air force is comprised of 8 jets (mostly old Russian castoffs), 2 attack helicopters, and a number of cargo transports and training planes. Presumably one of the jets was down for maintenance when they tried to stop Deus last time. And as Deus states, less than 1% of Marromeu's (a city along the Zambezi) population has electricity. So it seems to me, or at least Deus, that some of the population might appreciate a little industrialization. The endemic corruption is probably why the country is languishing as it is. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on the geopolitics of the area, but I am going to assume that's the case, which is why Deus has decided that a change of administration is required before he starts putting down infrastructure there.

In Mozambique's favor, they do have quite a few tanks, so we'll see how Deus's campaign goes.

Tamer: Enhancer 2 – Progress Update: Getting Proofed!

Proofing’s back on. One last set of notes left to go through. I should be able to do that this week. At that point, it should be done. I want to do some more work on the cover, but I also want to get it out to you guys, cause honestly I think it's pretty entertaining. So... maybe I'll release it with a mostly finished cover. You guys will definitely find a few extra typos if the first book was any indication, so I can fold those in as I noodle the cover for the final final version.

Curious to see what the UN will think of a new warlord in Africa bullying and killing his way to power.

I mean, I can’t argue with the General’s logic. He has no reason to believe Deus. Every businessman and politician who has ever promised anything for the country has likely been lying and corrupt and made things worse. He assumes Deus would be the same… because why not? What he fails to realise is how much power Deus has, how much money he has, and how much he enjoys playing real life Sim City. Based on my own experience in games, theses a lot of satisfaction in building a grand society.

Tannerbot

Death to colonizers. Deus is doing right by "his" people currently, but it never lasts.

Hurley

Deus is bound and determined to live out the old "Great White Savior" BS, isn't he?

Town Crier

I am assuming that Deus is, currently, an American citizen. He will probably lose that status if he very obviously leads a foreign country into war.

Miyaa

Deus looks like he’s about to get a drink at some speakeasy in Casablanca than about to conquer an African nation in a way that would impress the English & Dutch monarchies.

Thisguy

Strange as it seems, I think Deus actually believes that by improving the lives of the working class, actually makes them work better. And that improving a country actually gives him a lot of power... I mean, its all ultimately self serving, he's not out to specifically help these people, but helping them actually helps his plan, so he is happy to invest in them. The question is A. Does he have the resources to pull it off? And B. How does he deal with all the opportunity seekers who inevitably show up trying to wet their beaks and are not as nice as Deus? Its all very well to have a plan which improves peoples lives, not so good when your middle management screw it up by trying to line their own coffers (Though honestly, thats a stupid thing to do, you don't mess with Deus).

Apparently their armor force is pretty old too. That looks like a WW2 German Panzer IIIJ behind Angry Armor Officer.

For some background, look up Thomas Sowell's video on Africa's geography. It explains a lot about why it's so hard to do a lot of things in most of the continent.

John Chidester

Is that supposed to be Deus leading a massive army on the horizon in panel 6?

Stephen Gilberg

Of course Deus speaks fluent Portuguese. About 25 years ago, I discovered that Mozambique had the lowest per capita income in the world: $80. No doubt they were mostly subsistence farmers. Guess not much has changed. BTW, it's Malawi, not Malawai.

davebarrack

Yeah. Well, not like, front lines leading, but he has a very tall RV so he can see over most of his troops.

akrasia

In the real world, but what are you using for reference in this comic universe with supers and aliens?

Kensai

For a moment, looking at the first panel, I thought Deus was looking at the area the orbs were found, but then I realized Deus would never be that late to the party.

Erin Palette

Yeah, panel 1 confuses me. I see blue and my brain tells me that it's water, but then I see some of the blue has drop shadows as if they're rocks or something? I get what's going on in the comic. It just seems at odds with panel 1, which looks like they're fighting in a river delta with big blue rocks.

Otoger

he seems to be one of the few who think a bit ahead, the only thing stopping our RL versions from Bettering the world while making probably even more money is the short sight they have regarding good worker health and moral the issue of without money we can spend money and that they are also part of the world and are also outnumbered

martin leske

dont make fun of their 7 jets. i mean look at you? how many fighter jets do you have? is it less then 7? thought so

Alex H

Dave, have you watched CGP Grey's "Rules for Rulers" You've got to control the keys to power else someone else will;

*cough, it least that pun works in Portuguese (maybe), 'cause it's terrible in English

davebarrack

That is fair, but at the same time I do not cover 309,496 mi² of Africa, so my jet needs are somewhat different.

Eric Loken

It does! Old Panzers were used for some time in poorer countries, but I think they'd have all be replaced by now. I'd expect mostly T-55s, with a smattering of basic T-72s to be the mainstay of a poor countries armoured force now (in Iraq M2 Bradleys killed T-55s with their 25 mm cannon).

Dual citizenship, American and his African State. He mentioned it while talking with Max. Along with his belief that he's got years before real consequences happen because the people who could punish him don't care.

eddi_TBH

There will be some changes made. Deus finds it easier to rule happy nations and plans way beyond "slay my tribe's enemies and loot all the foreign aid I can grab". I imagine the OAS is just sitting back sipping tea while they watch a white guy undo centuries of colonial legacy.
