Welcome New People & Work Updates!!! (Patreon)
Content
Helloooooooooooooooo!!
So many new people have joined recently and I wanted to say a big hello and thank you!
There was a big surge in new Patrons after I mentioned in my work Q&A how supporting creators on Patreon is really great for when they have to take time off due to health stuff. With a steady income from Patreon it's one less thing to worry about when you don't get official "sick leave/pay". I honestly wasn't expecting that mention to bring so many new people but thank you, I really appreciate it 💛
And then don't think I didn't notice another bump in people joining when I mentioned on my Instagram stories that the pregnancy episode of The Hormone Diaries was live for Patrons a day early 😂 I see you! 👀 But yes, as a rule Patrons get early access to all new videos!
The Patreon platform itself can be a bit tricky to navigate but I made a pinned post that details everything you get for being a member of The Common Room and how to access it!
If you want to meet and chat with other members of The Common Room community then our private discord server is the best place for it! (it's honestly my favourite place to hang out on the internet) - here's instructions on how to join the discord server and if you've never used discord before it can feel a little overwhelming but the mods and other community members are very lovely and welcoming and can help show you around!
Work Updates!!
As you may have seen I am HIRING! I'm looking for a Creative Producer to join my team part-time. This massive decision is honestly made possible by Patron support and I'm really excited to welcome someone new to the team and what possibilities this will bring! Also, could it be you? Someone you know? Please check out/share the job description!
I also wanted to give you a heads up that the next batch of Doing It Podcast episodes (at least until the end of the year) I won't be able to release the Patron-only full video episode or the YouTube highlights. Hopefully, I'll still be able to get video quotes/clips out on our Instagram but I decided to trim back on the other video aspects for a couple of reasons:
1) time constraints. My priorities until the end of the year are weekly videos/podcast episodes AND write my ISEE essay AND hire a Creative Producer. And the few hours doing the podcast video stuff takes up each week I need back for working on those things + resting because I'm still not working at 100% capacity yet!! SECOND TRIMESTER ENERGY BOOST WHERE ART THOU??!?!
2) cost vs reward. To be honest, not a lot of people were engaging in the video content so maybe I made the wrong call on it to begin with??? About 10-20 of you would actually watch the full video episode (I'm not blaming you btw! I just don't think the video version is as popular as I thought and also because I was struggling through the first trimester, edits took longer and would often come out after the public episode was released so most people had probably listened already!) And then the public YouTube video highlights would completely tank (which I expected them to but maybe they tanked more than I was expecting and it still hurts, so is it worth it?)
Anyway, maybe the video stuff will be revisited once I've hired this new person on my team and we can figure out how we can make it worth the time/energy... or not?? We'll see!
Hope you understand! Just wanted to give you a little insight into the inner workings of my mind when it comes to making decisions like this!
Hope you're well. Thanks so much! And welcome again, newbies!
