Dissecting the Insomniac Leak | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 361

Right after we went away on our holiday vacation, a major piece of news dropped that rocked the industry in the form of a wide-ranging leak of data from Sony-owned Insomniac Games. Timing stopped us from responding until now, and we're going to do so in great detail today. See, our job on Sacred Symbols isn't to make the news, but rather to report on and react to it. While what befell Insomniac isn't right or good -- and while it certainly isn't legal -- it did, in fact, happen. And our coverage of it shouldn't signal our approval of the situation, anymore than a local newspaper reporter covering a murder. We have to acknowledge reality, and incorporate new knowledge. It's important to note that most of what was in the leak isn't going to be featured in any way on this podcast, and indeed, we don't even know how to interact with the leaked materials directly, nor do we care to learn. Instead, through the likes of Reddit, Imgur, forums, and social media, we collected what we thought was relevant, and left out the rest. The relevant: Insomniac's release schedule, game financials, sales data, PS+ presentations, and other items of acute business interest. The irrelevant: Any details having to do with a game deeper than its mere existence. No plot or character spoilers, no discussions on builds and videos, no artwork analysis, and so on. And it goes without saying that personal details of any kind (which we frankly didn't personally encounter while researching for this podcast to begin with) are complete nonstarters. We hope you find our coverage fair and thoughtful; we'll leave that determination up to you.

one thing to keep in mind, last of us remastered was the defacto ps4 bundle for a time. when i went to get my ps4, i wanted a physical copy of last of us, and ended up having to go to like 4 stores to just find a standard edition that didn't have the digital pack-in title. so i'd imagine a great many of lou(r) sales are for people buying ps4 consoles, and that being the only option.

this is a GOAT episode of PLUS. tons of really interesting stuff in here. also wasn't expecting so much sales data for products that weren't even made by Insomniac.

Really? All for One above A Crack in Time? Size Matters above A Crack in TIme? ACIT is by far the best thing that was ever released in the R&C series. Size Matters isn't bad, but it's kind of the bottom of the "not bad" list. Tools of Destruction was probably the buggiest Ratchet game. I'd put Into the Nexus much higher. Did Full Frontal Assault get on the list at all, or was it just ignored? To me, A41, Deadlocked, and FFA are kind of my "bad" ratchet games list.

Of course, Resistance 3 was also their best Resistance game and it didn't sell well. :(

I found the omission of slides where Sony talked about being behind the competition and being leap frogged by MS to be somewhat suspect. perhaps you thought the dukes would cover it (and they did) but not getting your read on that is disappointing. Combined with trying to read the PS+ HFW data as a coup de grâce of some sort to your gamepass claims, it is beginning to come across as fanboyish behavior.

I remember getting the PS3 really late after getting out of the Army and the first games I bought were the Resistance games. I played the trilogy back to back and had a blast... Such a shame to find out how few people bought that last game.
