Hiroki Totoki Literature Club | Sacred Symbols, Episode 280

Sony Corp's quarterly financials have finally arrived, and they carry within good news for the PlayStation brand. PS5 is selling briskly, third party games are moving, monthly active users are steady, and so on. But this recent report portends rougher times ahead, too, especially when it comes to PlayStation's vaunted dozen-or-so 'games-as-a-service' that once promised to help shepherd in a new era of Sony exclusive. And all of this against the backdrop of a mysteriously-exiting CEO? With Concord confirmed for 2024, Bungie looking a little bit like a lemon, and a potential Twisted Metal teaser embedded in a recent live-action trailer, the reality is: We have much to discuss. Plus: Grand Theft Auto VI's reveal trailer is coming in December, Sony will be co-funding and co-producing Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda film, BioWare continues to tease Mass Effect for some reason, Embracer's collapse continues unabated, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! PlayStation Portal is right around the corner. What's our excitement level? Nearly a million people have already Platinumed Spider-Man 2. Does this data have significance? PSVR2's coverage is virtually non-existent on Sacred Symbols. Is a lack of media attention partially responsible for the peripheral's soft reception? World War III lurks right around the corner. Chris recommending Sekiro as the best FromSoftware for beginners is wild.

Ha yeah if you can't develop the game skill, you're screwed. At least in the Souls games you can grind and overlevel. Sekiro can be very tough, especially towards the end

As to the allergy conversation, Colin was right. Although I don't think many people still withhold peanuts and other allergens nowadays, it was definitely a bigger thing in the 90s. New immunology data shows that the best thing for a child's immune system is to expose them to every allergen possible; so let them have the peanut butter and play outside. As for Chris, this is more likely because he moved from the East coast to the West. It's pretty well documented that people that move from one region to another can have a whole host of new allergies in their new home.

Just watched a 30-minute review video of the beam soundbar. Dustin, you are a legend, Colin you are a very lucky man

I freaking LOVE Arma, Operation Flashpoint and PUBG. The reason these games feel slower or janky is because operating with 40-50 lbs of gear and kit is janky. I love most shooters but there's an absolute soft spot in my heart for these janky gems

Can someone tell me how to submit a question for the show? I’m sure I’m the only one in the room who doesn’t know, but… I don’t know and I’d like to. Thanks friends.

Germanos

Look for a thread posted for questions. It is usually called "shows name + the thread" or something like that. Just be quick since you have only 24h to submit the question and post goes away.

Re: puzzles in Resident Evil, etc being there to slow you down - in those games particularly, I find the main gameplay loop of survival horror stressful, so the puzzle rooms are nice reprieves before you gear up for the next sweat session.

my buddy made a "nut milking" video a few years ago and it actually went viral... Highly suggest a watch :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJCTIPWPNtw
