Unlike many games in the Souls genre, Lies Of P focuses heavily on its story through both its characters and environment without leaving it to the item descriptions or YouTubers to do the heavy lifting. Joining me (Matty) is executive producer Dustin Furman and Punchin' Up's Gene Park to answer your burning questions about Lies Of P.  Is it too close to the From Soft games where it fails to set itself apart? What do we make of THAT ending with THAT sequel setup? What of the bosses that whopped us one too many times? It's time for a deep dive into one of the most surprising games of the year!

Happy to see Dustin and Matty podcast together. Reminds me of the ham radio days with acg.

I gotta say I reeeeeally hate that Dustin keeps saying you can't tap block or that the game discourages it. It's literally just not true. I tap blocked the entire game. It's all I did when it came to blocking, which I used way more than the dodge. I can't speak to the timing issue in comparison to Sekiro just because I only played it once (and loved it) and that was a while ago, whereas I know Dustin has played multiple times, but PLEASE stop saying you can't tap block in Lies of P. It's just straight up not true. The game tells you how to perfect parry in the very beginning and you can use it throughout the entire game. Maybe I had an easier time with it because I didn't have Sekiro really fresh on my mind, but it's just not true that you can't do it and it's not true that you're discouraged from using it.

I like that they’re doing to video games what Shrek did, or Fables in comics, in putting a twist on a bunch of public domain characters.

Nice talk, I really liked LoP it's defined one of my favourites this year. An other very nice touch on the humanity of P is that when you become more human P will start to huf and have voice when he attacks. It's quite awesome, when I first heard him, I was like "was he doing that the whole game?", he wasn't. Also, you can find an NPC that is called Belle and then you find her boyfriend that could also be a reference to beauty and the beast.

Is P the Tin Man for the next game?

Fantastic game. I just finished NG+ yesterday. Not sure if it's my #1 game of the year, but definitely Top 3. I really hope the second game revolves around that ending stinger....that got me super psyched
