With Xbox's plans for 2028 laid before us, the Dukes dig into what this future looks like. Is this the original vision for the Xbox One coming to fruition? Will this be Xbox's final "console generation?" Can ISPs get out of the way to allow this type of gaming generation to thrive? There is no shortage of angles to tackle this from as Lord Digital and Mr Retro come together to see if this vision of Xbox's can serve both sides.

Is physical media really the best form of game preservation? Physical media and original hardware will become more and more scarce over time, making the old games unaffordable to most (or at least too expensive to make any sense to anyone except the most die-hard gamers with expendable income). Physical seems like a very short term solution. Imo the purpose of preservation is to permit anyone of any financial background or level of commitment in gaming access to old games. The best official means to do so are PC ports and backwards compatibility programs, both of which Xbox is very much ahead of Nintendo on. All that said, the ultimate means of game preservation is emulation.

100% agree, relying on these mega-corporations to keep anything and everything available forever will only lead to disappointment. In addition to what you said about physical media degrading and becoming expensive over time. Thing is most people want a plug and play experience which emulation often isn't. Though as someone who's been into emulation for a while now, it's more often than not a one and done setup and I never have to think about it again. That doesn't make it any less daunting for those unfamiliar with it though. I'd say those people are missing out considering all the improvement patches, ROM hacks, mods, HD texture packs, etc. that make emulation the best way to experience a lot of older games, but to each their own.

I will not support this future, I have a Series X and love it but I don’t want an always online, stream only future. I would be ok with streaming as long as I keep my library of games on Xbox. This is why I bought Starfield and don’t have gamepass.
