A Conversation On Modern Journalism | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 333

Please welcome Khayl Adam to the show. Khayl is an Australian games journalist who writes for an outlet you'll undoubtedly recognize if you listen to Sacred Symbols: Push Square. We love Push Square, and we're happy to have him on our program. He and I (Colin) sat down from across the world (that's still pretty remarkable, when you think about it) to chat about the current state of games journalism, where it succeeds and fails, what the next chapters might look like, and how some websites are still doing things the right way. We're often hard on games media here on this show, and rightfully so, I think. But it would be dishonest to say it's all bad out there. That's not true, either. But even if done the right way, however we define it, time inexorably marches on. The only real question is -- at the nexus of modern economics and an ever-changing online landscape -- if media outlets as we once (and still, for now) understand them can realistically survive beyond the near-future.

Every time I hear an Australian say "no" I can't help but think about Shane Gillis' Aussie joke in his newest special https://youtu.be/tmt53GrnEsM?si=i-_DI9CQzunk1dX5

Wanna learn some Australian accent? If you want to know what mobile phone sounds like in Australia, just say "My bull fine".

This was so good! Absolutely loved listening to the both of you, and great to have an Australian on! So funny, I live around the corner from Noosa. Great to hear that there are opportunities in the gaming space even in Australia. I hope the industry grows here, as there is nothing really here. Interesting to hear that the time difference makes him an asset, even though most news drops in European or American times? Anyway, great episode as always ❤️

I'm behind on my podcasts and I just finished this one up. This conversation was fantastic!
