Hollywood's labor problem may not be an isolated event in the entertainment industry for much longer. A recent press release from actors union SAG-AFTRA indicates that their members will vote to authorize a strike upon further negotiations with 10 major entities in gaming, including the likes of EA, Take Two, and even Sony-owned developer Insomniac. After all, the guild represent voice and performance actors in many of our favorite games. Yes, the consequences for not getting a deal done could extend far and wide. But it's also important to make note of an important fact: Otherwise-soulless mega corporations that exist entirely to propagate creative content should appropriately pay the creative people that fuel them. And yes, AI plays an inevitable -- but dangerous! -- role in the future of the humanities, and needs to be accounted for. Other news this week hinges on Final Fantasy XVI DLC chatter, tons of Starfield-related talk (since Chris is obsessed), and some new announcements, release dates, and so on. We wrap things up with listener inquiries touching a myriad of topics, including hoarding items in RPGs, the importance of playing a game right when it launches, the preposterous GTAVI/$150 rumors, and fighting back against a neighbor who won't leave your lawnmower alone no matter how much you may want him to.

Immortals of Aveum looks like the most bland, cookie cutter game design possible, in every way. It might well be a competently made game but it has absolutely no ‘hook’ to bring people in. Far Cry games have the brand history, Fenyx Rising had Greek Mythology, Ghostwire Tokyo had the Japanese urban aesthetic etc. It just looks completely meh.

You have completely missed the point of the outrage about the pronoun thing. The game isn't simply asking "male or female"... It's asking about PRONOUNS which are in itself a ridiculous and novel thing that deranged people have latched onto. You could be unmistakably a female but DEMAND that others call you "Him/Them" It's an absolutely asinine phenomenon that has been forced onto everybody in real life in the last 5 years or so... So when we see shit like this in all of our media (videogames, movies, shows, sports) it tends to speak volumes. I'm all about freedom and choice and fantasy in RPG's and videogames... But this is so obviously a super specific political/social sign of the times right now that it isn't ignorable. I agree the guy shouldn't scream and holler about it online but honestly I get why he did. Go ahead - call me "noninclusive" or a "bigot" or a "right wing maga" all you want. I'm not... I don't care anymore. I'm just sick and tired of society telling me I'm wrong and hateful because I don't want to acknowledge someone's fucking "Xe/Xir" pronouns.

Amen. Everyone saying it's not a big deal or that it takes 2 seconds to move on to the next screen or that "I didn't even notice it", yeah that's the point. These things don't start in your face. They creep in slowly and you slowly tolerate them more and more until they are considered "normal".

I've been loving immortals of aveum it reminds me of Doom meets kingdom of amular. It's a shame it's not selling better. It's easily an 8-8.5 out of 10 game

I don't get why Colin thinks that 70% on MC for Immortals of Aveum is crazy. It totally looks like it's a 7/10 game (7 means it's alright! Not total crap) and with that kind of marvel-type bad writing for some people it deserves even a lower score. 🤷‍♂️ You just need to watch a few cutscenes from this game for a headache from rolling your eyes and facepalming

Chris hits the nail on the head. Looking for something "woke" so you can complain and make content out of it. "Pillar of Garbage" a small YouTuber (85k) has a video about this. He calls it "wokespotting".

When I read the GTA rumor, I didn’t think of it as the base sku. I figured it’d be some special edition with early access for $150 which I could see. If anybody’s gonna push that play early version to the max, it’ll be them. Col, I think you’d dig Starfield. It’s Fallout in space, and not like The Outer Worlds. I’ve mostly been doing missions and it’s dope. Probably going to end up being my favorite Bethesda game.

I’m glad Chris gave me something to look forward to in Starfield. The opening hours are so deeply off putting that it’s been hard to find the motivation to play it.

I don’t like Starfield, but that’s because I’m just not a fan of huge open world RPGs. But to say it’s “not good”, is kinda crazy. It may not be to one’s tastes, but it’s still a good game. However, my biggest gripe is that it’s just entirely unoptimized for PC and runs like dogshit. Even for high end hardware, it struggles. Hopefully that gets fixed, but it’s a good game, despite not being aligned with my tastes.

Colin, thank you for talking about AI like you did. I work back office customer service for a major corporation and the push to AI has been big focus. I even find that most of my co-workers don’t understand how AI works or what it is. This push is clearly to replace a major portion of our front line entry level staff but it’s not considered appropriate to talk about it. Also, creatives absolutely take a financial risk in creative media, but this doesn’t have to do with quality but profit. Making a movie that underperforms absolutely makes it harder to get work. Big names will get more chances and those are the people the media covers, but a nobody director or actor that make a bomb may lose their career.

The starfield clip going around was taken out of context and painted specifically about the pronouns when in reality the rant wasn't even at the pronoun selection. It was a culmination of all the things adding up. The outrage was meant to garner clicks, which it did, and now people like Chris painting it as "no big deal" is the exact point. Chris also acting like he was in good faith on social media is completely disingenuous. Colin has an incorrect picture of the situation and will not know the actual discourse because of a clip, how about watching and sharing the entire video and gleam the actual points. I personally found starfield boring and can't invest 50 hours to let it "get going"

Regarding 2:25:50, astrological signs actually very much exist in ES Morrowind and Oblivion as birth signs; and Skyrim in the form of standing stones. So that's a very funny argument for someone to make regarding pronouns.

Very good, but Nintendo is not known for quality but nostalgia. The games run and look about the same as GameCube with not much content outside of Zelda.
