Masculinity, Roommates, Popular Things We Don't Get, US Citizenship Test | Constellation, Episode 35

Gather 'round for more Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by LSM executive producer Dustin Furman and associate producer Ben Smith. Ben would like to reminisce about our roommate experiences, recollecting the memorable people we've lived with in years past. Dustin wants to analyze the very meaning of the term 'masculinity' and explore why we sometimes employ such a narrow definition of the word. Dagan's topic delves into the popular fare around us that we simply can't get into. From pro wrestling to The Simpsons and beyond, what don't we get about what so many others adore? Finally, piggybacking off of a topic in recent weeks concerning immigration, Colin wants to see if this week's panel can pass a form of the US immigration quiz given to those who seek American citizenship. The results may surprise you. Download DraftKings Sportsbook and use code CONSTELLATION to sign up and get $200 in bonus bets Get a wireless plan for $15 a month at https://www.mintmobile.com/con

First!! Sorry I thought I’d have a better chance to “get read” if I wrote as the first comment. Just wanted to say that the opening reminded me of the idea of the animation podcast with Dagan… and I would love to know where that’s at. Dagan I love the insights that you bring and would definitely listen to you talk about a show like Daria for a few hours. But in the meantime the odd comment here and there about animation will have to do. I’ve been watching the X-men animated series lately. So that’s also on my mind. Cheers, Calcifer

Something that, IMO gets lost in translation with stuff like that can be just knowing the language. A lot of us, IMO, can really underestimate how hard understanding/speaking English can really be.

Why does Dustin care if random people identify 2 fictional characters as gay in their own minds?

@dagan With the situation where the roommate didn't like you for no apparent reason: I think what happens often is that you will do some small thing that annoys someone and instead of them saying something to you about it, they let it fester and begin to hate you for it.

I'm Canadian and would love to be American. I got all those questions right can I come in?

Jonathan Turner

@dagan Greys major was whatever the art version of Urban Economics was I'm guessing.

Can we get timestamps for the topics? I often find I’ve had my fill of a topic before the crew have and I’d like a convenient way to jump forward, similar to symbols and duke.

Great conversation as always everyone!

Colin: "I've not heard anyone make comments about someone's height." A few moments later Colin: "Micah's dad is 5'2". I always joke with her I'm going to throw him in a closet." LOL

The return of the grey story. A classic

I think the whole push for trans lately is actually because of collectivism, and collectivist ideology. It's a form of conformity. You must change your gender if you're interested in this list of things and that list doesn't conform to your natural gender. Everyone must be fit into boxes. This is so they can set those boxes against each other for purposes of taking over society. I'm an individualist. Everyone should be able to express and accept all parts of themselves, and not have to change one of them because someone else is dissatisfied with their conformity. Who cares if I like both video games, and Crochet. Who cares if I can both fix a car and enjoy reading a romance manga. Those are things I do and things I enjoy, not something that determines who I am or who I must be to fit into the collectivist boxes.
