It's time we wrap-up our conversation about Peacock's Twisted Metal TV series, at least for now. We say 'for now' because the show does a great job of setting up a seemingly-inevitable second season (season one was apparently quite successful for the streaming outfit in its first month). And indeed, combing through the final four episodes of this 10 episode run of Twisted Metal was a fun exercise for us, as the series continues to lean into a high level of camp that keeps audiences engaged without being pulled-out of the experience entirely. Is it light on car combat? Definitely. And are some of the characters and relationships a tad bit aggravating? Undeniably. But somehow, some way, the powers-that-be threaded the needle and came up with something that we'd deem "very good" for an IP you'd assume would be quite difficult to deal with in this way. We wonder if you agree.

The Fred Durst Death Hoax

The dynamic between Ratchet and Clank is the development of an unlikely friendship between two people who; in any other circumstance; would not be friends. Unlike the 2016 remake, where they are perfect friends from the get go. It's fine, but way less compelling. The development of their friendship is one of the main parts of the plot, and the remake loses pretty much all of that. That ending cutscene of the original alone makes all the bickering worth it. A culmination of all the hardships they have gone through. That is the scene that shows the blossoming of one of the most iconic friendships in gaming, a scene that is absent in the remake. The remakes story suffers as a result of being based off of the movie; A watered down disney-ified version of the original. A damn shame, because the remake is mechanically one of the best games in the series. And its excellent gameplay is partially betrayed by its neutered plot. Like them awkwardly sidelining Chairman Drek out of nowhere. Just so they could shoehorn Dr Nefarious into the plot, presumably because as the more iconic character, the film/game would do better if he was in it. I love that remake, but it's a mess.

Are you still planning on doing a Gran Turismo review discussion? I was very surprised with how great it was. It would love to hear your views on it at some point.

Sweet Tooth's stepdad is the one that died. His real dad is mentioned being locked up.

I had the exact same thought about Mr slam being a Jaffe cameo when I was watching the show!

Hey Colin, as a Vancouver based AD, always love the Vancouver/Canada film industry shoutouts! For context, HBO's TLOU had a $10-15 mil budget PER EPISODE. (Biggest production to ever film in Canada) Also Peacock isn't available in Canada so their content ends up on the other streamers like Paramount+. Peacock made the most of what they could with the $45 mil budget, which actually lends to the campy, grindhouse style. Liked how it turned out and hoping S2 gets the greenlight.
