It looks like we can finally -- finally! -- stop talking about Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, at least on this podcast. That's because PlayStation settled on what it frankly could have always had, namely a 10 year deal for access to Call of Duty that runs into the mid-2030s, keeping the cash-cow franchise on Sony hardware for a long time to come. Is this an ideal situation for Sony? Certainly not. But that's their problem, not ours, and at least we can flip the page to make way for more interesting topics! Other news this week includes an interesting, years-late update to Dreams that could have at one time saved it from inevitable failure, drama surrounding the PC launch of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, release dates for Firewall Ultra and Goodbye Volcano High, and -- perhaps most importantly -- PlayStation 5's meteoric sales, as it continues to move at an extremely brisk pace around the globe. Listener inquiries wrap the show up, per usual, touching on topics like Baldur's Gate III, the potential return of Einhander, the PlayStation-centric censorship of indie title LISA, and thoughts on whether Colin compliments Dustin enough, which apparently he doesn't.

You said my name right, lol. Colin, I think you were conflating my points with others you feel passionately about. I don't want every game to be like Baldur's Gate. I want proper RPGs (where you inhabit a character in a world and can likewise affect the outcome of the story) like BG to be like BG, where the scope is massive and my choices can effect the story in countless ways. Utter freedom, immersion, escapism etc. (It sounds like those games just aren't your thing given your reaction to Starfield, and that's fine too) Indy RPGs shouldn't be forced to match that scope, especially if they've no interest in doing so. But when AAA devs come out, making 'RPGs' with bigger budgets and allegedly bigger scopes and say they can't match BG3, that's the triggering thing. And you made my point (one I don't think I made well at all) by bringing up Assassin's Creed. The world of BG is a fraction of the size of ANY AC game, and yet it's clear as day it has infinitely more breadth and scope. Shallow Ocean vs a 100m deep pool. Naughty Dog shouldn't feel pressured to make the next Last of Us have seven millions endings and last sixty hours. But when devs that make RPGs - like from Ubisoft, CDPR, Bioware - say they can't match it? That it's impossible? That's...a big turn off. And sad. Maybe it's a bit similar to how you feel about 2.5D games. It's more economical to make them that way, and I'm sure you understand when Indy devs come out and say they need to do it that way - I imagine you'd feel differently if a hypothetical AAA dev that made Castlevania games used 2.5D too, claiming poverty and saying sprites are just too difficult to do.

Nice thumbnail Dustin

The topic of getting a game show together got me thinking about a Sacred Fantasy Football league, as I know Colin is a serious player. I'd love to be involved if that ever becomes a thing! Regular seasonal redraft format, or dynasty format would be so cool. Just a thought. (I posted this in the video thread as well)

Hard pretzel = average snack Chocolate covered hard pretzel = amazing snack

king_ryan_james

All of the local Target near me have way less physical copies. Also, all the Best Buy stores near me, even the flagship near the headquarters, have now been absolutely gutted. The video game sections in all of them are now shadows of their former selves.

Sales saga is done…..smh :( sad to hear

lazer_josh

Bro the pretzel crust from little cesar's fuck me

Why does it matter if Jim Ryan says MSFT could have paid $5 billion to get the next 3 COD's exclusive? They didnt buy the company to make COD exclusive. They bought them for King, IP, Dev Teams, and most importantly the 70% of each COD transactions on PS and 100% on Xbox. If PS makes $1 Billion a COD on sales and microtransactions, that means Xbox makes over $3 billion on PS alone and now they get an extra 80% on Xbox, along with whatever Mobile and PC rake in.

yosh_wah

Colin, Dustin is an extremely valuable member of the LSM family. Go easy on your son. Many children resent their parents due to unfair treatment and targeting of every little thing they do (or don’t do). Keep that in mind the next time you pester Dustin for his emotional sensitivity and his kind manners when it comes to covering his mouth while yawning. You should be praising him for his thoughtfulness and consideration. Stand down, Colin. Stand down.

Mykal

The sleeping bit killed me 💀

The Devmeister

Colin ripping hard on China 😂

Zackery Parkerson

I love when someone says “he said under oath.” as though most people taking the stand are telling the truth. We all know 80% of testimony is bullshit in any trial.

Napoleon in Rags

“The Germans got a lot of things wrong” 🤣 Next t-shirt idea

Around the 23:00 mark when Colin was talking about how (agreeably) unacceptable it is to personally insult guest commentators on the show - I had my nodding in solidarity. And then almost immediately he implies there's nothing wrong with the guest personally attacking someone THEY disagree with- had me facepalming soo hard lol. Colin almost got through it with a salient point but then spiked the ball on the one yard line. Let those who reap sow

Brandon Garvin

There’s a difference between Matt Stoller calling the judge a name on Twitter, and Colin’s audience name calling and attacking Matt. If you want to call out Matt for something he said, not on here, but on his own PERSONAL Twitter, then go there and do it, but don’t do it here. If you don’t understand that, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Steve Gray

Love the idea of a work/wellness/game balance episode, looking forward to it!!

Kenny C

Dustin definitely felt like he got picked on, Chris laughing didn't help. Especially as he breaks his own record for yawns every episode saying "Yeah , I dunno " to almost everything that's asked of him

Omar Rosa

We need a Sacred Symbols Hawaiian shirt.

Anonymous

Ive never felt more uncomfortable listening to SS then the 'Dustin is a sensitive boy' section.

NeO JD

Surprised Chris never heard of Einhänder considering how much he loves the PS1 and demo discs.

James

I rarely comment but feel compelled to say calling Dustin sensitive was the wrong move and not appropriate for the setting. Surprised that section wasn't cut.

Otacon_Ocelot

🤣🤣 the banter between you guys, dusty you getting enough sleep you get sensitive

Adam Hauze

Man you people are soft. Dustin is a grown ass man who can fend for himself and often does. These three have a deep relationship that we'll never fully realize or understand. None of them need you defending them after some banter that just so happened to take place in front of us.

RoughSlpr

We don’t really know the dynamics it’s probably nothing but it’s definitely awkward for a lot of listeners and comes off as pointless. It’s bad podcasting at best and mean at worst

Viktor

Colin, if you want some inspiration for the game show you're looking to put together check out MinnMax' "Trivia Tower". It's very well done.

Captain Kidd

I think our boy Dustin needs a Snickers 😂

Cormac

Can I just say, as someone who has found themselves getting less fit every week, the idea of not allowing yourself to play games until you work out or get tasks done is a fantastic idea and one i’m going to implement. I used to be quite fit and played sports regularly and then it just stopped and now i’ve put on weight and am nearly afraid to go back play sports because I know i’m going to struggle for quite awhile. It’s nothing too drastic and it’s still saveable so thank you for bringing it up Colin, it’s a great idea.

Kenny C

I sincerely hope Colin apologies next episode, I know he obviously didn't intend to make Dustin feel that way but he was clearly uncomfortable and even if he is a bit sensitive the last thing you should do is laugh about it and drag it out. Chris the Yawn king didn't help either, cackling like a bird

Joshua Jones

Chris’s comedy… “you’re a sec.. milli… an atom away from disaster”… it’s so much funnier when you say atom instead of second hahahaha but let’s shit on Dustin who actually provides some value to the show

Joshua Jones

I knew Chris would bring up the sand and then laugh as he continued to talk, nothing funnier than people laughing at their own jokes

Dennis Fox

This episode was hilarious. Love the banter, reminds me of my family

Jose Horrach

Everyone is definitely overblowing this Dustin situation. Reading the comments I was expecting a blowout fight and it was just a little ball busting. People Gotta relax

Theotokos Respecter

Resident Evil Village is on PSVR2, RE4 is coming to PSVR2. Gran Turismo is converting people into sim racers, buying up racing wheels like crazy. The PSVR2 game store isn’t filled with shovelware, it’s very easy to find a game to play. Attempting to play a game would probably help.

Retlaw

Since I don’t see anyone addressing. To Colin’s insanity question, insanity is an affirmative defense. Meaning that to claim you are criminally insane, you first have to say, “yes I did it, but I was criminally insane” the problem with that, is that if your legal defense is insanity, and the court finds you fit to stand trial, then whoops, you’ve already said you did it. It’s a very difficult bar and is almost certainly not worth faking (I know everyone was joking just filling in I work in the American court system) Also being found criminally insane means being placed in a state psychiatric placement until considered no longer a danger to society, at least in most American states.

Integra76

That sleepy Dustin section was hilarious. I was like Chris laughing the entire time. Colin was just messing with Dustin a little but Dustin couldn't take it lol. Busting each others balls is what family does. Builds character lol

Jesse V

Yeah I agree. Some people's offense to that segment was a bit too hyperbolic. Was it cringey for a lot of us? Definitely. Was a little douche-y of Colin? Yep. But that's life - many of us have been unintentionally patronizing to our friends/family before, only to realize later how we came across. No big deal.

Maxx Lazos

“PSVR2 has no games” -3 dudes that don’t ever play PSVR2 ;)

Maxx Lazos

Colin such a GenXer when people yawn 🤣🤣🤣

SSDs are generally not suitable for constant writing. The higher the capacity, the more terabytes you can write on them without a disk failure, but there's still a limit to what SSDs can handle, and they have a TBW rating which you should avoid exceeding. Temps also affect their speeds and longevity, so you'd have to cool them sufficiently, and a simple heat sink might not be enough when they're constantly working somewhere in a tight box (you might have to use active cooling, and that defeats the purpose). Regular HDDs are better for this kind of work, but you should use a tougher one specifically designed for constant writing - we use two 8Tb WD turtle series HDDs for our CCTV system at work (26 cameras, depending on the camera 720p-1080p quality, at least a month of footage has to be stored). If you're writing like 5Tb a day, and the drive is rated for 150TBW, it's not going to survive 3 months (the TBW numbers are usually conservative - the drive should work at least 2x as long). If money isn't an object, though, You can totally buy a $1000 8TB SSD or two, and be fine since their ~1800 TBW should last you a while (as long as you're not trying to do 4K 60fps w/o motion detection on 30 cameras), and maybe even outlive an HDD with moving parts and potential points of failure, but a tough HDD that will do the same job, and has no risk of overheating, will net you ~$150.

Just wanna say you guys are awesome! Thanks for the content every week ❤️

Heyy Boys! Colin you mentioned a Sony themed hostorical (?) Twitter Account. Cann you tell it again, bc I can't find it again in the Podcast? I can't find this chanel or the Part in the podcast with the info. can you help me out? Thanks aslo Many kisses 4 you!

Sacred sales saga is better the the sacred league. Sad that its gone.

I would have liked if ff16 got rid of most side quest and embraced a base building depth to the game. Recruit, resource management, upgrading structures ext.

Baldur's Gate 1&2 were real time, but you could pause the game at any time to give orders and set up a good strategy for the enemy encounter - so it's the same as KOTOR. These games were awesome - they were dense with content and offered a rich experience, and the big debate at the time (late '90s I wanna say) was wether they were superior or inferior to jrpgs. One offered a superbly directed, more linear cinematic experience where the player had next to no bearing on the plot (think you're just along for Cloud's story in FF7), while the other was an actual ROLE Playing Game with choices and consequences. You create your own character, kill anyone, build your team, find and equip epic gear, talk to people, and there still was an overarching narrative, a main villain and a world to save. Og Fallout games were like that, too, and ultimately the formula hasn't changed much in, say, Mass Effect - though that series evolved more into a linear action game with time, since utlimately in ME you are always saving the world, you can just be a d*ck about it, if you're renegade, and maybe some of the side characters can die at certain points. There were quite a few of those games at the time, using the same engine no less - Baldurs Gate 1&2 were more of a vanilla epic fantasy RPG, Icewind Dale 1&2 were still fantasy, but more 'action' focused since 90% of the game was combat and exploration (beautiful backgrounds, though), and Planescape Torment was a different, very somber, tale with an existencial dredd underline. I remember PT being VERY well written, too, with book-like descriptions, and an awesome story. There was voice acting in these games, btw - not for every vendor or side story, but the most important stuff was voiced (at least in BG2, since I can hear Misc and Boo's lines in my head atm).

Greg Hommel

The question boy, which has now been answered, is would Ratchet & Clank have run on a PS4, and the answer is no. At least not in an acceptable way. The instances where it will run decently on an HDD are with monster graphics cards that didn’t even exist at the time and 64GB of RAM. I hope that small difference is not lost in the shuffle.

Taylor kazemba

Doki Doki was censored on PlayStation too. You need to play the switch version.
