Hey guys! Loving the show so far! Keep up the great work! My question is what direction do you think Nintendo’s franchises go after the Switch generation? It seems like it will be a tall task to top games like Smash Ultimate, Tears of the Kingdom, and Mario Odyssey. Where does Nintendo go? How do they top games that seem like it couldn’t possibly get any better than this? Thanks and stay awesome!

Hey Everybody! Someone else in the comments called you “punchables” and I second that name. With Nintendo sort of abandoning the 1-2 punch (pun intended) of console and handheld games, in favor of the console anywhere experience, what Nintendo handheld franchise would you most like to see return, and in what form? More top down Zelda, Elite Beat Agents, Golden Sun…something more obscure??? Thank you much, Daniel

Any plans for a Tears of the Kingdom spoilercast?

Greetings Nintendorks, What are your thoughts on Nintendo being so stubborn with their IP? They’ve definitely loosened up in the past few years, but I wish they’d release their OST’s on vinyl or sell come cooler merch Thanks much

It took me about 540 hours to get all the achievements in Hyrule Warriors. But the most offensive one required the purchase of an amiibo. Wouldn't people get quite upset if a PSN trophy required the purchase of a toy? Anyway I really enjoyed getting 5-star save files in Mario games, and I really think I'd be possible to have something really compelling with N-chievements, especially if you could get N-trophies for retro games that come with the online subscription. Wouldn't that lead to a revival of trying out old games?

Hey Fist Brickers! Have you all seen the amazing new controller that was announced at Summer Game Fest? It is called the Nitro Deck and it seems to be an elite controller with backpedals that can be handheld. Plus it is only 59.99! Love the show and keep fisting those bricks!

Hello Punching Up crew! What’s your thoughts on Eiji Aonuma saying the open world formula of BOTW and TOTK is the future of the series? As somebody whose replayed most of the older Zelda games 2-3 times, I’m honestly really sad about it. Not many games have the same satisfying gameplay loop older Zeldas had. Anybody else sad about it, or am I the grumpy old man yelling at clouds? Also Dagan what the heck does “soup to nuts” mean? I know I can Google it but I’d rather you answer.

Hello Fisters of Bricks, With TOTK using BOTW’s map and largely focused on expanding and improving upon the experience, TOTK feels like an iterative sequel more than an innovative one like BOTW. Because of this, it makes the original game feel obsolete by comparison. Do you guys prefer when sequels improve and invalidate the original, or would you rather them differentiate themselves and live alongside the previous game? Closer to the 3D Mario games?

Hey everyone, I want to write and ask about Fire Emblem. I enjoy the series as a whole and really loved Three Houses; the branching paths, the 5 year time gap part way through the story, the more mature themes, it was pretty great (also the music was fantastic). Graphics weren't great but the general art direction was, at least in my opinion. After loving Three Houses I was really excited for Fire Emblem Engage, even bought the special edition, however I dropped it at Chapter 17 for Hogwarts Legacy and have had zero urge to return. The story was terrible, the characters were mostly mediocre, and while the gameplay and graphics were an improvement (art direction was worse though) on Three Houses, the story being such a downgrade killed it. So I ask, what do you play Fire Emblem for, and which of Three Houses or Engage did you prefer? Cheers

What’s up punching up crew! Do you think Nintendo should try and purchase the rights to Banjo Kazooie? With all these 3D platformers coming back to life I think there’s plenty of money to be made with Banjo. If kao the kangaroo can get a reboot and even croc! I think Banjo deserves it and I don’t think Microsoft ever will.

What’s up nerds? My question is simple with the popularity of 3D Zelda and Mario Maker are we ever going to get another Nintendo mad 2D Mario or Zelda?

Hail Nintendorks -- One of my favorite wider creative projects that Nintendo has engaged in was its foray into dual-screen gaming. Starting with the DS and continuing on the 3DS and Wii U. Results ranged from gimmicky to game-changing. The second screen was a great place for menus and maps or even novel control methods. I found Pikmin 3 more fun on Wii U because of the gamepad and touchscreen. Are there any examples of games you felt benefitted especially from that second screen? Will dual-screen gaming ever return?

Hey Stinky Switch Crew, I have the answer to the great nickname debate, and just like Luigi in Mario Kart 8, it has been giving us the death stare the entire time. -The acronym for Punching Up is PU. -The phonetic reading of the letters P and U is Pee-yew. -Since the time of the Ancient Romans, Pee-yew is the sound one makes when something is stinky. There you have it… It’s woven into the very name of this podcast and was written in the Power Stars thousands of years ago. Love it or hate it, until new Nintendo hardware is revealed, you are the Stinky Switch Crew and we are the Stinky Switch Community. SSC for short. Thanks, and keep Punching Up.

What’s good, Gene, Dustin, Micah, and Dagan - What long dormant IP in Nintendo’s back catalog are you yearning to see another entry for?

Alex Castellanos

Dustin & the PU Crew, Here's a game for y'all. It's called, "Which Game Came 1st?" Given 2 choices, please choose the game that was released in North America earliest. 1. Zelda 2: Adventure of Link? (01/14/87) or Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest? (08/28/87) A: Zelda 2 2. Pikmin 2? (04/29/04) or Metroid Prime 2: Echoes? (11/15/04) A: Pikmin 2 3. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble? (11/18/96) or Final Fantasy III / VI? (10/20/94) A: Final Fantasy III / VI 4. Super Smash Bros.? (01/21/99) or Perfect Dark? (05/22/00) A: Super Smash Bros. 5. Super Mario Galaxy? (11/12/07) or Super Paper Mario? (04/09/07) A: Super Paper Mario The person with the Highest score becomes Dustin's official co-host of Punching Up. The person with the lowest score has some homework to do...😭 Keep up the great show, Alex Castellanos

Hello you tall glasses of fizzy lifting drinks, Dustin as the host can you declare that Punching Up is a pro physical games podcast!? I’ve watched Micah’s unboxing videos and have also seen you, Gene and Dagan post their pickups every now and again on twitter. FIZZYS STAND UP! PS- I thought of a new name for the Question Block. How do you all feel about “Brick or Hit”. Thanks and have a great week.

I was listening to the recent SS+ with Jaffe and he was talking about how Nintendo starts game development by finding the "fun" and extrapolating the rest of the game from there, Splatoon being the prime example of this concept. I think that concept is probably why no matter how old I am or where I am in life I always come back to certain Nintendo games. It isn't just a nostalgia blast, I really do have fun revisiting the Nintendo backlog. All that to ask, what Nintendo games do y'all revisit in your free time?

Hey punch crew! Congrats on a great start to the show. With tears of the kingdom coming out to critical claim, as well as other massive titles like Diablo 4, street fighter 6, dead space remake, resident evil 4 remake, Hogwarts legacy, Jedi survivor... The list goes on, and we're only in june. Is 2023 shaping up to be the biggest and best year of gaming ever?

Hey there Brickfisters, Looking at some of the games shown at Summer Game Fest got me thinking, in terms of third party/multiplat games, are there any genres that you specifically would gravitate to Switch for? Personally, I think 2D games, pixel art games and RPGs work particularly well on the system as they suit portability and smaller screens. Thanks for the show, Micah and Gene are fantastic additions to the LSM host roster, keep up the good work.

Sup crew! Since the podcast is new I thought I'd throw out a series of rapid fire questions for everyone to rip through so we can get a feel of your Nintendo tastes. Here we go! 1) favorite games in the Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Kirby and Donkey Kong series'? 2) favorite Nintendo console of all-time? 3) favorite Nintendo villian? 4) Game that solidified your love for Nintendo? 5) Best Nintendo controller in your opinion? 6) Who's your Nintendo waifu? Congrats on the podcast! I'll be tuning in every episode!

Cameron

Hey crew I’ve never played a Zelda game but all this talk scout TOTK has given me fomo. Do you think I should wait until a new, way more powerful switch comes out or go ahead and buy the game and OLED switch now?

DeathByClams

Dusty-bun, In Elden Ring, when you rest a woman named Melina appears and gives you a horse. In TOTK, you rest and are spoken to a horse named Malanya. Coincidence? Be a little gentler on that chicken now that there’s four of you.

Jeremy Tan

Hi Crew! Hope y’all are having a wonderful day so far :) What is your favourite Nintendo-related moment or memory?

Evan

Hey Punchumps, TotK is my GOTY, and I consider Mario Odyssey and BotW as two of the best games in decades. But if it's not Mario, Zelda, or Metroid, my Switch gathers dust. Splatoon, Smash, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem... I'm not into any of them. So, my question to the crew is: How diverse are your interests in first-party Nintendo games? Which series are must-plays on day one, and which ones do you avoid? Thanks!
