Recently, Phil Spencer joined the Kinda Funny XCast to discuss everything from Redfall's disappointment and the Xbox Games Showcase to their stagnant pipeline and even their goals as a game publishing platform. This transparent look provided little for Xbox fans to feel confident about as the pressure continues to mount between Starfield needing to be an "11/10" experience and PlayStation's rumored showcase lingering just days ahead of Xbox. Indeed, there's no denying that if Xbox doesn't absolutely nail it with their 2023 showcase that the blowback will be enormous. While Starfield shoulders the burden, it is up to all of Xbox first party to now prove why the fans should even both hanging around in the first place.

Michael

Do you think more people will play Starfield or Spider-Man 2?

Thanks for the new episode, Dukes

As evidenced by Redfall. Delays aren’t automatically a good thing. It means something is wrong. Whether it’s correctable with time or a fundamental failure of the game. Dreadwolf being out in later 2024 is not a good sign.

Garry

Does Phil’s statement on star field mean the CMA is correct in how important cloud gaming is to Xbox.

Thanks for reading my comment! Seriously, I love Xbox, and I’ve been super understanding about what’s in the works. However, I have to say the PS5 is pretty sweet and I should have got it sooner. It all works out in the end now that I have both, but hopefully Xbox will turn this around.

Spiderman is just a monster of an IP. He's the most mainstream Marvel character and Marvel is massive. Starfield does have a some chance to be more played though because game pass and PC.

love your content and wanted to sign up... One question I am burning to get answered and I would love you thoughts... I love indie games, but I find it frustrated that so many of the indie title come everywhere but xbox... famous ones recently like Oxenfree 2, Octopath Traveller 2, Mega Man Battle Network collection, Final Fantasy Pixel...but I could list thousands, Evil Tonight, Lost Ruins, Rise : Race of the Future, Arietta...Entire Arcade Archives collection, Sega Ages collection... Also all the bespoke physical companies Limited Run etc. To note I am talking on store not gamepass. Why is this? On paper when almost 100% indie games are developed are released on Windows PC...an OS, Microsoft owns. So this is a space xbox should be owning...yet indie companies are actively skipping xbox for some reason leaving money on the table, on what I assume is quite cheap to release coverting windows to xbox and digital. Anyway love your work and respect your views, and would appreciate your thoughts.

To add I have Xbox XS, Switch and PC...I dont own a PS4 or PS5. I only believe xbox and pc honour digital sales...Look at sony with VR and nintendo not passing games across.. so it rankles me I cant buy these indie games I see on Radical Reggie vids, Switch Corner and the rest, on the platform I want to buy it.

Why would they make a gears collection? Don’t they all run at 4k/60 already? Unless they are remastering every game, it makes no sense.

Yooooooooooo, that path tracing lighting in Cyberpunk is GLORIOUS!! I used to run the normal ray traced lighting and it was so pretty...but I can't rock with the normal ray tracing now because it's just not nearly as pretty. I'm a HARDCORE fps over all things kinda old man, but this update is the first thing to make me back up a bit and just let 70fps rock haha. (using a 4090 GPU)

Bit of a cop-out answer but I think they'll be equal! Core gamers will play both. And then the amount of hype and PC audience attention will draw millions to Starfield while Spider-Man as an IP will draw a different but equally-sized crowd.

You xbox gamers can't moan at PlayStation doing 3rd party deals and blocking yourselves off from games if you root for massive publisher purchase in the billions. Which is it guys. Let's not forget xbox has done plenty of exclusivity deals before
