Undoubtedly, Final Fantasy stands out as one of the most prominent and acclaimed franchises in the gaming industry, representing the most valuable asset of its developer, Square Enix. Despite the existence of 15 core installments and numerous spinoffs, the release of a new numbered title is still considered a momentous event. Just this past week, Sony partnered with Square Enix to give us an extended look at the upcoming title in the series through State of Play. Thus, the key questions are: how was the preview, and were we impressed by it? To address this question, I, Dustin, invited Gene Park, a Final Fantasy enthusiast and beloved figure among the Sacred Symbols' audience, to discuss it. While it was primarily a discussion on Final Fantasy XVI, we dove deep into the current state of the franchise and what makes it so special to millions of fans. Enjoy!

Yo, all that medieval realism blew me away in the new FF16 Stae of Play. From aerial juggles to incredible magical spells, I can’t wait to be thrown into those good ole days like no textbook ever could. Oh, and don’t forget the summons – ethereal beings the size of mountains conjuring up all kinds of planetary supercells! Finally, it makes sense why no people of color could exist in this world. Thanks, Naoki.

Game of the year this year is gonna be hard lol

Great episode, Dustin! I've been getting more into JRPGs the past year but have never played a final fantasy. This definitely has me a lot more intrigued.

Big shoutout to Chris for boxing someone 6 inches taller than him. Takes some guts to go against such a mismatch.

The aesthetic and “gritty” atmosphere (and seemingly politics) with the icing of Japanese flavor totally sold me as a not-previously Final Fantasy fan. Capital F Fantasy.

All jokes aside, I appreciate Dustin and Gene addressing the silliness of the "reason" for having minimal diversity. Put whomever you like in your game(s), just don't use realism as a scapegoat, please, especially when your game is Final Fantasy.

This will most likely be a great starting point, though non-traditional for sure.
