Hello gentlemen -- I wanted to thank you for talking up Tetris Effect, and turning me on to this wonderful game. Not only has it become a great bonding experience for me and my wife, but now it has become part of one of my most treasured gaming memories. My 1-year-old daughter loves music, and so I thought to try Tetris Effect with her sitting on my lap. I booted up one of the early levels and as soon as the tempo picked up, she was bopping along to the beat while I cleared lines in explosions of particle effects. She had a blast the whole time, and even started making the connection between the controller inputs and actions on screen. Awesome experience, and I don't think I'd have even tried it were it not for this podcast. Keep up the great work !

Is XDefiant about to turn things around for Ubisoft?! Sounds insane, right? We all remember XDefiant as the game that threatened to bring back Tom Clancy as a vengeful spirit. Well, things seem to have changed. Currently there are a significant number of Call of Duty players who are unhappy with the current state of the core multiplayer. Many long for the old days of COD, and it seems XDefiant has successfully modelled itself on these older COD titles, but in a free to play format. A few days ago, the XDefiant closed beta had more viewers than Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 on Twitch. Personally, I am noticing a lot of positive buzz about it on many of the big COD YouTube channels. Could this be a case of the right game at the right time? And let's not forget, Sony needs a COD competitor. Although perhaps we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. Despite it's market cap being significantly depressed, Ubisoft still has a $3 billion dollar valuation and a bloated employee roster. However, to get a game that could be nurtured into a COD competitor, could Sony acquiring Ubisoft be a shrewd bit of business for the Japanese gaming giant? In fact, I just brought a few Ubisoft shares in case the game can convert it's early buzz into a live service behemoth. Any thoughts gentlemen?

Colin- quick follow-up to the crunchbase company headcount last week. Linkedin has a business tool (Linkedin Sales Navigator) that more accurately pulls employee headcount information. I gathered some of this for your review: Naughty Dog 801 employees (21% year over year growth), Insomniac 522 employees (17% year over year growth), Guerilla 419 employees (5% year over year growth), Sucker Punch 186 employees (12% year over year growth), Media Molecule 100 employees ( -5% year over year decline). This information is based on where employees list their current company so it can be inflated (with employees that have resigned but not changed) but also more likely underestimated (not accounting for employees not on LinkedIn)

Hey CDC. Not really a question just wanted to shoutout to Sony for something I was impressed by. This week I wrapped up Telltales The Walking Dead. I already completed Episode 1 in 2014 and my save was there, in the cloud from my original PS4. I downloaded it to my PS5 and continued. The game does a good job of recapping the events. Likewise I started but didn't finish Assassins Creed 2 in 2017. Again, my save was there. Just rolled credits on AC2 and have a few cleanup trophies for the plat. Really amazing considering Sony is normally rubbish with infrastructure and cross generation compatability.

Greg Dawson

Hey CDC. What's with JRPGs and wasting your time? I played Ni No Kuni 1 (or Neeee no naaanaaa as Greg Millar called it, etched into my soul from Beyond days). Rolled credits after 30 hours or so. Started doing the optional stuff to get the platinum, and it's likely to take another 50 hours to do everything. Final Fantasy 9, 10, 10-2, 12 are equally reduculous. Dragon Quest 11 is 90 hours. It's not like they're even offering content or well written stories in almost all cases outside the main quest. It's tasks like "dodging lightning bolts 200 times consecutively without being hit" or "crafting 120 different recipes, for which you'll need to spend 30 hours battling for the materials that have a 1% drop rate". It's just not fun. FF7 remake is borderline. Replaying the game three times to get dresses and a mandatory hard mode playthough. Why? What do you think the devs talk about when they decide these trophy lists? Is it a Japanese thing? The Resi4 remake is similar in its high bar, as are the DMC series. Makes me really hesitant to start Ni No Kuni 2 tbh. Sorry for the rant, needed to get it out 😂👍.

Helllllllllllloooooooooo la la la, I wanted to say thank you to Colin for enlightening me to my new favorite word while discussing the wasteful efforts of Media Molecule last week. “Boondoggle”, while funny sounding, perfectly describes a lot of nonsense that happens where I work and I can’t wait to use it. As a 47 year old word nerd, it delighted me to learn some new vocabulary. By the way, shout out to the other middle aged lady gamers out there because surely I can’t be the only one. I don’t have anything clever to say about chickens or redacted words, so I’ll just say thanks for making my ears happy when I’m at work. Love you guys. P.S. - Colin, please tell my husband Chuck (who is also a faithful listener) how good Downton Abbey is. I’ve been trying to get him to watch for years.

Hey keepers of the Sacred Symbols, Have you heard about the LOTR Gollum DLC controversy Basically there's VO, yes you read that right, voice over locked behind a paywall. The elves speak in their native tongues but only in the Deluxe Edition, hilariously named, The Precious Edition that costs $10 more. Not only that, but there's more background dialogue in the deluxe edition as that's not in the regular version as well Is this the future of DLC where not content but actual voicework or something else essential to world building locked behind a paywall? Could you imagine the next Mass Effect having an alien language locked or Russian voice work in a the Metro gane exclusive to paid content? Thanks and keep making sweet, sweet love to that chicken

Greetings CDC from a Brit living in NZ, I as of writing have just beaten the Main story in Burning Shores DLC for Forbidden West This DLC not only looks better but performs smoother, (than the main game), it may just me but the sceneries seem much more vibrant. My guess would be because this isn't on PS4. I normally play games on Performance or even 120hz high performance such as God of War. In my opinion Forbidden West fidelity Mode is just such a leap over the performance mode that I put up with 30fps and get use to it. Especially in this DLC. My review is 9/10 and it is a must play storyline wise for any fans that enjoyed the main game. Unlike the DLC for HZD which I feel is skippable. If Horizon Zero Dawn is remade to the DLC standards then I can definitely see it being worth it. Will you be jumping back in ?

The Chicken Chaser

Hey boys, First off just wanna give a shout out to Chris, his boldness to box made me buy pay per view for the first time ever and probably the last. You did great Chris, felt like they called the fight early but what do I know! I’m thinking about Media Molecule, with a team so small why not put them on a remaster til they staff back up (assuming they will). My beloved infamous 1 and 2 are just waiting to be revived, or not the right team? I might be mistaken but I believe PlayStation openly said they are focusing on big budget AAA games, why would Media Molecule be treated differently going forward? Thanks have a good weekend

Hey CDC, Nick from North Carolina here. How do you feel about the hotdog I ate this week? It had chili, slaw, and mustard on it. Good day gents.

Hi CDC, first time long time, I was toying around with the idea that Sonys posturing around the ABK deal is to ultimately better position themselves for a future acquisition. I.e. the stance that the PlayStation brand would never recover post ABK acquisition, Therefore substantiating the purchase of developer/publisher X to better compete. Food for thought. Colin, been a fan of your work since 2009, the PSN returns episode is well ingrained in my mind “ahwahh” keep up the great work and give that chicken a break. Hi, I’m only writing in to say this: for the love of all that is holy, please play Ultrakill. Especially you, Chris, you’re depriving yourself from one of your future all-time favorite games.

Hey Slick Sexy Studs, Now that The Last of Us Part 1 is available on Steam, I'm curious to know which game you think will be the next to make the transition. Personally, I'm hoping to see Ratchet and Clank make their way over. Insomniac has already demonstrated their skill at porting games with the two Spider-Man games, so I believe they could deliver a high-quality port. In addition, I feel it's about time for games like Ghost of Tsushima or Demon's Souls to be brought over to PC. Thanks for all the incredible content, and stay sexy my friends!

Hey CDC, Is it exhausting or hilarious to see Microsoft continually drop the ball?

Jordan Wray

Hey fellas, The recent talk of a return to 30fps gives me pause, I believe there is no need for this and it will be a negative for gaming if this becomes a strong trend. I take issue with the notion that Digital Foundry mention, that players have higher and higher expectations of graphical fidelity. I don't think the vast majority of gamers can tell you why they think the graphics of Triple A game x and y are better or worse than eachother but I do think they can intuitively feel if something is off in the gameplay. We've long known that 60fps just works better for fast paced games and I cant help but notice that the industry has drastically shifted focus away from Engine development mostly choosing to implement third party mega engines like Unreal for ease of use and staff reduction in the areas of engine optimization. I say this as primarily a PC gamer but when you match up the best of last gen running on PC vs this generation ports you really see how poorly optimised things are at the moment. I think of the Calisto protocol and how much money must have been thrown at the art department with little care in performance optimisation enabling those insane graphics. The worst thing is these games almost always get a fix a few days / weeks later so we know its possible for this to work. I challenge you to sincerely look athl the best Graphics of Last Gen, compare them to current gen triple As running on drastically more powerful hardware and tell me we haven't went amiss somewhere. Typed on phone so edit how you see fit for grammar or basic corrections. Hope Chris is 100%, ya gave it your best shot with a shitty situation.

Hello Gentlemen, This one is mainly for Colin, but anyone feel free to chime in. What are the hype levels for the new Division information we will receive this Thursday. Thank you for all the entertainment over the years. I'm going to stop writing and listen now.

Colin and Chris, As the resident New Yorkers of the podcast, I am calling upon you both to set the record straight. I recently bought fresh bagels from my local spot and brought them home. I immediately dove in and sliced one, only to be scolded by my brother for not toasting it first. I exclaimed that the bagels were fresh and didn’t need to be toasted. He said I was wrong. Please let the world know how it should be done. Thank you for your service.

CHRIS RAY GUN! THE REAL PEOPLE'S CHAMPION! Regale us with details of your fight. Did you ever consider biting your opponents ear off? Do you feel the boxing establishment rigged the fight against you and do you plan on launching another campaign? In all seriousness though great job maintaining your commitment throughout this whole undertaking.

Andy

Hey fellas, One of the selling points of this current gen was faster loading. Do you see games in the future taking longer to load? It seems obvious that most last gen games can load quickly but I’m not so sure how much faster loading will be on a truly next gen game?

Kurt Lewin

Hi CDC What's the most hyped you have ever been for a game, what age were you, and what levels of hype were we talking? So hyped you would mark the date on your calendar and count down the days on the wall like a crazed prisoner, wetting the bed in the weeks running up to release or something less crazy? Cheers P.S. Feedback RE a possible Nintendo show. I would love to see a Nintendo show but understand the point made about there sometimes being weeks where there isn't much to report on. Because of this I would love to see episodes covering when big news or a big release happens and personally would even happily swap out a SS+ for the occasional Nintendo themed episode but I understand that all the audience might not agree with that.

Hello CDC, Long time lurker, first time commenter. I won't go into a pithy intro, except to congratulate Chris on his experience last weekend. Next time, perhaps a useful suggestion to the competition would be to utilize a novel concept of weight classes, but of course I jest. I've thought of this topic often, but have neglected to write in fear of the obvious "Don't send these show requests me way" energy and ridicule that would ensue. Instead, I aim this recommendation at Dustin ( who may oblige), and the audience of enlightened folk that listen to this podcast. Last weekend, Netflix released the final piece of content in the "Last Kingdom" series, which to me has eclipsed the title of "Best Show You've N ever Heard of" from the likes of the "Leftovers" and "Rome". It is an adaptation of the Saxon Stories, which is a historical novel series by Bernard Cornwell. It covers the founding of England, by namely focusing on the lineage of Alfred the Great. The series' protagonist is a fellow by the name of Uhtred son of Uhtred ( yes this is a series joke) of Bebbangurg, who is based on a similar historical figure in that era. I won't take up too much of your time, but know this- this series may have the best cast of characters of any show I've watched previously. You will love and cherish the relationships that arise naturally, feel pain at frequent loss, and a rare fist-pumping at victories. It is a lovely series, and is told in a mostly historical fashion, without overt magic or provenance. Also, in a feeble attempt to lure Colin into this trap, there is barely any graphic sex scenes. There may be the occasional romp in the sack, but in this way the show mostly remains chaste and certainly does not focus on such trappings. Thank you gents whether you read this comment or not, and keep up the great content!

Hello CDC. Why do publishers use YouTube livestreams for their major showcases? The quality is always terrible. Why not release an uploaded video at a pre-announced time? This would still generate the hype and the game would look a lot better.

Greetings CDC from the UK. Do you think it is conceptually possible for the rumoured q-lite handheld to turn your owned ps5 into a cloud streaming like device to play your home console from afar? If so is it an idea with legs? Many thanks for the quality content.

Hey CDC, First time writing in. I just wanted to ask, are there any plans to add tank tops to the LSM store? It’s starting to get hot in Georgia with temperatures being 80-87 degrees. Plus, I think it would make some good workout gear. Just wanted to ask, hope you all have a wonderful day.

Word up. Now that Chris' creator clash journey has come to an end, I'd like to know what he's learned along the way. Is Chris now a big boxing fan? Will he continue to train? Has it changed his life in any meaningful way and lastly.... will he do it all again?

What’s up C squared + D First time writing in. Just wanted to follow on from your Nintendo talk last week. I think a huge gap exists for a good Nintendo podcast, other than IGN, which is only ever an hour long and never really goes into depth, a podcast dedicated to all things big N related doesn’t exist. I think it’s a big opportunity, indie pick of the week, current Nintendo news etc. I’m sure you’re sick of it by now but I just thought I would give my 2 cents. Thank you for the amazing content, please for the love of god take the chicken out to dinner first. PS I look forward to you boys coming to the UK.

Heyy sacred crew so PSN store is still imo being weird last night I went into it looking for the final fantasy pixel remaster bundle I could not find it what so ever so I typed it in! See all them pop up but not bundle form to just by them all to buy individually. So I waited to see if it would pop up on new release section I waited until 3pm est time still nothing is showing for a bundle. Until I click into ff6 and it says be careful not to buy This twice because you could get it in a bundle. So I click on the ps4 section of when you purchase it and then the bundle showed up. I find this frustrating that psn is a continuous problem for finding things. It took me hours to try and navigate this problem and now it’s Thursday morning I went to go check it again on the ps app and still there not even advertising the pixel remaster under new releases section. I just find this extremely weird and wanted to know if you guys had this problem or not. Thank you for the great content you guys provide! (Also I was all doing this under the PS App not on my ps5 console) maybe that could be it..

Hey Sacred Sinclairs, I want to present a bit of a philosophical perspective on remakes. With rumors going around about a Metal Gear Solid remake on PS5, this will be its 2nd time being remade. And depending on the changes, I ask you all, did you REALLY play Metal Gear Solid if you play this rumored 2nd remake? This is all based on the theory of the Ship of Theseus. I don’t want to write a wall of text explaining my perspective, so I hope you all can understand where I’m coming from. Cheers!

Hey CDC, First time write in, long time listener. With the amount of hype surrounding Spider-Man 2 and wanting to see some coverage of it, do you think we are heading toward another batch of complaints on how the sequel looks the same, like we did with GOW Ragnarok? I can't imagine it looking drastically different or playing in a different style from the original or Miles Morales. I just can't help but wonder if we are setting the inevitable trailer or gameplay reveal on too high a pedestal, just to once again be frustrated when it doesn't look like a seismic departure from what came before. Your thoughts? Thanks for everything you do and keep up the great work!

Hello, boys. I share all of your concerns regarding the risks of AI replacing human labor in games development. But this year's GDC presented a few interesting cases, and one that raised my attention was about UE5's AI assisted world building. Granted, procedural generation is nothing new, but AI takes it to the next level. The idea is that artists would hand craft the most important areas of a large map, and AI would fill in the blanks. This example could indicate a path to address the constant raise in cost and complexity of games development. So, not a replacement, but a welcome helping hand. Thanks for the consistently awesome content you guys produce.

Hello nigh bad booty daddy and his cum guzzling boys. Colin last week and on the Mario 3 episode of Knock back you said people graduate from Nintendo. You also said something to the extent that Nintendo isn’t for you because it’s the same thing over and over and you like new experiences. However aren’t Sony’s games the same thing over and over again. While they may have newer IPs they are all the same game. Over the shoulder 3rd person action games. Couldn’t you make the argument that’s Sony’s games are all the same except change of setting and tone?

Hey CDC, I'm wondering if any of you guys ever go through periods of disinterest in gaming (or any other hobby). I've found that as I've gotten older and more busy with things like kids and work I find myself lacking motivation or energy to consume any form of entertainment or pursue hobbies as it just seems like too much some days. I also deal with depression and have recently been diagnosed with ADHD so I'm sure that plays a part as well. Any tips on how to not spend my limited free time staring at my phone on the toilet for an hour every night? I suspect the wife will soon start prodding me to get my prostate checked if I spend any more time in the bathroom lol. I do try to get decent exercise and eat right but I still am finding myself being checked out at the end of the day more than I would like. Keep on keepin' on, Grady

Hey CDC, If you could fight one game developer, who would it be? I would love to fight Hideki Kamiya. I would lose roundly and it would be an honor to be stomped out by the master. Thoughts?
