PS5 Slim, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation 6: The Possibilities | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 279

Please welcome Last Stand Media's tech analyst, Tom from Moore's Law Is Dead and Broken Silicon, back to Sacred+. I (Colin) invited Tom to the show for the first time this year to delve deeper into recent rumors surrounding PlayStation 5 Pro, rumors that were actually first discussed in a looser form on this very program and with this very guest back in 2022. But such a line of inquiry naturally led Tom and I to some other parallel conversations too, not only about PS5 Pro, but about the possibility and likelihood of a PS5 Slim, and of course what may happen when PlayStation 6 rolls around in Year 202X. Anywho: Let's talk hardware, shall we?

Looking forward to the future weekly podcast, dedicated to trees.

Loved this one. Really interesting. I feel like Sony should call the PS5 Pro a different name if it is really more for cost savings rather than a bump in power like ps4 pro was. Regardless the next one desperately needs more storage. This is a massive problem for most people. Having MW2 and Warzone alone eats out 1/3 of the consoles storage

Colin has an exceptional talent for selecting individuals for his show. Tom from Moore's Law is Dead, Hoeg Law, Matty and Cog covering Xbox, they are truly cream of the crop in their respective fields. I am eagerly looking forward to future episodes like this!

Glentendo

Awesome episode. I really really hope they just do a PS5 Slim

Interesting conversation. There isn't as much need for a pro revision this generation. The widespread adoption of 4K TVs was a big reason for the mid-gen refresh last time and the economy was in a better place. Now the economy sucks and a lot of people don't even have TVs that support all the features of the current consoles (like 120 hz and VRR). If the base PS4 outsold the Pro at 4 to 1, it wouldn't surprise me if base PS5 outsells a Pro version at 10 to 1. And PS4 Pro was able to stay at $400, while I would have to imagine a PS5 Pro at $600. I would buy a PS5 Pro at launch, but I don't think many others would care about it at all.

Great episode Colin. I was looking into PS4 Pro sales and the only numbers I saw were the Famitsu sales numbers(which only represent Japan) and that has the Pro at about ~1.58 million consoles sold.

RoughSlpr

Feel like you're underestimating how much the Ps4 Pro sold, 15-20 Million sounds right

Had a base PS4 all last generation with no issues. If Sony releases a Pro, I’ll probably ignore it. 60 FPS in all games is what matters most.

Can't say i'm fussed about a hardware refresh or lazy pro I certainly won't be upgrading. Right now I don't even know if or what i'll be playing on Ps5 this year.

in 2017 gamestop had a deal where all ps4s got a $200 store credit, so i took my launch ps4 and they had a deal where like 1 year of pro got $20 off, but it was on sale for like $10. so i ended up getting a ps4 pro for just over $200. i was pretty stoked.

Fantastic episode. I will always buy the upgrade but I’m an enthusiast. Love the game pass discussion at the end. Thanks for the content Colin.

I have concluded that Dustin is the only normal person on this show. Colin and Chris are some of the strangest people. Colin: No bottoms when he sleeps, eats once a day, doesn't drive a car, no trashcans. Chris: No ice in any beverage, moves across the country once a year, showers with glasses on, never ketchup on fries or burger, doesnt sleep with a pillow. I love the show, but every week one of these two says something insane and makes it sound like we are the crazy ones.

Tom is awesome, always so insightful when he comes on to talk

I’m sure Tom is a nice guy, he seems it but I can’t help but be skeptical based on his previous appearances. Seems he has gone from “Pro consoles confirmed” to “eh, maybe 2024”. Maybe that’s just me - still enjoy listening to the episodes Colin - just, have a hard time believing a lot of what Tom says as I haven’t seen anything come true yet

I love these episodes!

I think that number is very high, but possible. Remember: More than half of PS4s sold were already sold by the time Pro came out.

Really good episode, love these more in depth pieces. I think you are right on not having a pro model, but a slim version instead. It could still be an upgrade at a much cheaper price, but without the disc drive. It would make sense with the rumors of Sony potentially making a detachable hard drive. As long as the option is there to continue buying physical games I would upgrade. It’s just my preferred way to game. I usually buy it physically if possible. Anyways, thanks for another great episode!!!

I want a PS5 Slim with a disc drive.
