On this week's all-new episode of Constellation, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by Last Stand's coordinator and shopkeep Micah Watson and associate producer Ben Smith. Micah comes to the mic eager to talk about breakfast: Eggs, bacon, potatoes, French toast, waffles, pancakes, cereal. The whole shebang. Dagan prods each of us to share a truly embarrassing story from our past, ones we've never discussed before in any setting. Ben waxes about the power of documentaries, their endless draw, and how they seem to make even the most mundane topics thoroughly interesting. Finally, Colin breaks down how he feels technology is making his life worse, and how to escape all of modernity's many bells and whistles. Can we undo progress and recapture a simpler time?

I have only listened to the first 8 minutes so far but Micah is preaching to my soul with this breakfast topic!!

When I hear “muffin top” I think if that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine’s former boss opens the muffin top store. As I’m typing this Colin mentions it. Classic episode

No not in taste, spam is also good though if you have a nice little crisp on the outside of a thin piece. Scrapple is a much meatier type of meat than spam, also they look very different.

Speaking to what Colin touched on about people these days 'not knowing what to do'...I have noticed that it seems like younger people these days (I'm 43 in a couple of weeks) don't seem to know how to interact with 'strangers' in person. They never had to grow up having a conversation with someone to make a friend or ask out on a date. It's pretty fascinating to see them have absolutely zero issues with meeting people on a phone or computer, but no clue how to just get up and go say hello to someone in almost any setting. At the same time, they never had to cultivate that skill, but it's weird to me.

Fun fact, from Louisiana, Tony Chachere’s is pronounced sash-a-rees. Totally not obvious but if anyone was curious.

So far I'm loving this episode! Great topic by Micah! Hey Col, what are the odds we get Gene back for another episode? I did love his contributions on the episode he was on.

People who eat cereal at night are psychopaths.

Lou & Rei Loper

How about people that eat out at night, as a snack.....with no milk 😁👌 #shreddedminiwheats

Had Twitter for 11 years, deleted it recently and never looked back. You realize as you get older that social media is for kids & a huge waste of time. When I’m playing a game, I always put my phone away. Only time I’ll check it is to sync the trophies on the PSN app.

The Devmeister

I’m currently listening to this while playing Legend of Dragoon on my PS5. This is evolved living. Lol. I agree though Colin. It’s impossible to disconnect these days. We’re up for renewal on our phone plans - and without a doubt I just went it, upgraded to new iPhone 14 and continued on. My wife is debating going back to a flip phone so she can disconnect but with my line of work it would be impossible for me. It’s the curse of the modern world, having it all also means adapting to it all. It used to be that humans created things to make life easier - now we have to adapt to technology and it’s making life more complicated. It’s a double-edged sword. Great podcast y’all. Breakfast food for life. Savoury all the way. Fuck out of here with pancakes. Love y’all.

Grizzly man is one of the funniest documentaries of all time. My friend showed it to me and I couldn’t stop laughing. That narrator’s accent and the absurd behaviors of Timothy. Most comedies can’t make me laugh like that movie. We were also super high watching it so that helped.

Chocolate ice cream is the best topping for Belgian waffles. The hot waffle softens and melts the ice cream, and some of the chocolate gets on your greasy bacon.

King of Kong is free on youtube as well

I always listen to the show without reading the title. It’s not hard to avoid seeing the topics in the title if you want to.

“California is not real” Micah is a treasure never change 😂

“Sleep is a portal to breakfast.” - Micah “It tastes like what I think the Earth tastes like. It’s like oh yes.” - Col lol I don’t even know what to think of Dagan anymore after that piss story. “What if I just ate dog poop?” Geez Micah. ☠️

Maybe it was because I grew up in a rural area but I've always felt like my age bracket (I'd say 1988-1992) was the true bridge generation to the internet becoming super common. I genuinely don't remember anyone I knew having computers in their houses before the early 2000s lol.

I've had an interesting relationship with technology over the last 5-6 years. It wasn't until I got back into reading in a major way in 2016 or so that I truly realized how much time I spent on social media. Ever since then while I still do find myself scrolling (especially during commercials when watching sports/wrestling) I never realized exactly how much of it I did before I stopped oddly enough lol.

One of the earliest documentaries I’ve seen was MTV’s True Life. I was obsessed with that series, pretty much all of the MTV shows during the 90’s.

To the technology point, last week I was cooking dinner. While the pasta boiled I continued an ep of Sopranos on my phone, got a little bored, watched a YouTube short that was stuck in my head, then switched to an ebook on my phone. All in like 5 minutes. I double taked myself, and thought about how fucked my brain is by this tech. Turned on screen time just to keep track after that.

If you're looking for a documentary recommendation, I'd recommend "Into the Abyss." I don't want to spoil anything but it's absolutely fascinating.

Bogey Zero

“Sleep is a portal to breakfast” Holy shit what a quote

Noah Friscopp

Now I just want to murder a box of O’s, man.

Andrew Christensen

Dear Lord i just got to the final topic in this episode, best episode yet 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Micah and Deagan had me laughing out loud in my office.

Luke Trewarne

I think Colin is off base a little. I'm Micah's age, and internet didn't become commonplace for me or anyone I knew until I was in my early teens

NinjaDC

As an adult, breakfast food has become the most common food family (Italian, Asian, etc.) I eat for dinner. I can only eat a big breakfast at breakfast when in vacation though. When I am not stressed for work, and sleeping in a bit

PuppiesOnParade

I highly recommend the documentary, Psychodyssey. Over 7 years of footage at Double Fine during the development of Psychonauts 2. I finally succumbed and watched it after Ben Hanson at MinnMax would NOT shut up about it. Absolutely worth your time, it's such a good watch. I went from almost zero experience with their games to wanting to go through their catalog and experience each one.

Uncrustables, eaten straight from the freezer, are the shit.

If Micah was a man, I would be certain she was a serial killer after hearing her "unique" food preferences.

Marco Maluf

“Sorry aunt Barbara” 😂

Micha and I are the same age and my internet experience was definitely like hers. I grew up without it basically, got my first flip phone in 9th grade lol did get social media till college. I was definitely late to that. But I’ve always found my experience to be more like people older than me.

No Summoning Salt love for documentaries? Man's out there doing the Lords work 😂

2023-04-01 15:54:56 I don't like the way restaurants make corned beef hash. A local pancake joint serves Mary Kitchens from the can & it's great. The only restaurant I'll order corned beef hash.
