Howdy Defined Dizzlas, Jim Ryan has taken the gloves off, hit Xbox with the "I just want to block the deal". Simply put, what would be the funniest or pettiest way that Xbox could spite PlayStation to get revenge? Have a, Microsoft just offered Nintendo 500 mill to put Tears of the Kingdom on Gamepass for PC, kind of day.

Greetings Dukes, Did any of you guys see the new trailer for The Lord of The Rings: Gollum? If so I need to know. What were the devs thinking when they gave Gollum hair that looks like it's straight out of create a player from NBA 2K12? All jokes a side, as a big LORT fan I am looking forward to this game, but with as stacked as 2022 is, I feel this game could easily get lost in the either. Thoughts? Best, Sean M.

Alex

Hey Dukes, when's the NYC live show? Matty they just opened a new terminal for the LIRR into grand central so there's no excuse!

MonstaPontes93 (Ricky Pontes)

Heyy Duke boys So I been listening to this new book on audible called Star Wars Jedi Battle Scars! It is set between Jedi fallen order and the upcoming Jedi Survive! It is really good a lot of call backs to the first game and giving us the little itch that we need to scratch before finally getting the big sequel! Matty and Cog I highly recommend you check this out! But now my question! Do you guys have any tie in books, comics, any media in general that comes to memory that you guys have enjoyed in years past? I know there is a bunch in the gears franchise , halo etc.. but this one is my first and I absolutely am more excited now for survivor then ever! Thank you guys and have a it’s less than a week until my first pax east ever and I am super hyped kinda day!

Greg Dawson

Hello Gentlemen. Might have missed something but it seems to have all gone quite on the Forza Motorsport front. Have you guys heard anything? It's my most anticipated MS game (mainly because I don't think Starfield will be in a playable state till next year after a load of patches - call me cynical 😂). Weird that it's not being hyped. Do you think it's nearly ready or are we heading for a delay?

Bryant

Hey Dukes, You consistently reference the timing of Forza Horizon 5’s launch and Halo Infinite’s MP launch 1 week later. Yet when it comes to Forza Motorsport, I haven’t heard either of you mention that the second FH5 expansion is launching at the end of March. Doesn’t it make sense to give both of these products time to breathe, even if it violates the 12 month pledge from last year’s showcase?

Hey guys, finally getting the opportunity to write in after listen to HAM for such a long time, it wasn't until recently I started joining the Sacred Symbol talks as well. thanks for making Games Media feel so relatable to us as listeners. I've listened to cog give the Midnight Suns pitch forever now, and I wanna drop the cash on it, but the game style isn't my specialty. It had me thinking though, was this a good choice to introduce this story to video games in this fashion. I will admit, Midnight Sons as a story arc instantly had my attention, but was slightly hesitant when it was announced as an RTS. I know it's cogs baby so no harsh words here. I know I'll get into it soon enough, but would you guys have done a different type of release for this game if you had the choice. As a short-haul trucker, you guys make my shifts run smoothly on the road, keep up the awesome work!

Meatball

Greetings from Arizona, Dukes! Matty when do we get to hear some details about this game of yours you keep teasing us about? Thanks for making my work days just a bit easier each week, guys! Have a “Lord COG needs to voice one of the characters” kinda day

What’s good Dukes? Do you think we’ll ever actually see big budget Final Fantasy games on the Xbox? It seems PlayStation isn’t just helping fund them, according to Yoshi P, PlayStation has been helping even with the development of 16 and is treating it like it’s a first party title. Is there anything Xbox can do to bring over future FF titles or is this something PlayStation is gonna keep close to them?? Thanks and have a “GameStop Cancelled my Resident Evil collectors edition order” kinda day.

Hey Dukes, I have a hypothetical question regarding the release of Starfield for you. Which would be more damaging to the Xbox/Microsoft brand: A. Even though it’s been delayed, Starfield is buggy as hell when release but has excellent game play and story. B. Starfield has no big bugs but the game play and story are good but not great. Thanks and have a great week

Hello Chocobo Matty and Mog Cog, Square Enix isn’t doing to well as more of their games fail to meet expectations. Square released: Star Ocean, Harvestella, Strangers Of Paradise, Triangle Strategy, Crisis Core, Valkyrie Elysium, Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamer Edition, and Live A Live all in 2022, and believe it or not I left some games off the list. Most of these games received little to no marketing, were released in a state that was unacceptable to the fanbase, or failed to deliver on $60 or $70 price tag. Now we hear that Forespoken failed to meet expectation and less than a month after release Square shuttered the entire studio. Octopath 2, an amazing game that skipped Xbox for no real reason, failed to make a mark financially despite being available to a potential base of over 300 million users (PS, Switch, PC). A lot of people are assuming Final Fantasy 16 will do well but I want to remind you that we never received numbers on FF7R sales outside of the first year. In fact the only numbers we have are ‘5 million’ right before the PC launch and FF7R never charted on Steam or Epic after the first week of being on the storefront. It seems to my eye that Final Fantasy ain’t selling like it used to.

I say all of this to say, where do you see Square in 5 years. Some assume Sony will buy them, but strategically it wouldn’t make sense for Sony to buy Square because it doesn’t cover for a deficiency like Bungie did. I hope y’all have a “You can’t blame Xbox for sales because we didn’t even have a chance to buy it” kinda day.

Hey Dukers, how about some wild speculation on who the Great Serpent Worshippers in Starfield might be. Is this great serpent a constellation? Or a Dune-style literal giant worm, perhaps? I'm hoping for the latter personally. Have a colossal-sandworm-just-ate-my-thopter kind of day, Edward

Hello Limited Edition Dukes, Tunic is getting a physical edition from Fangamer. It comes with a bunch of goodies and for Matty A FULL COLOR MANUAL! The bad news is no Xbox version. Why does this keep happening? Why is Xbox leaving money and potential goodwill on the table? Thanks and I hope you have a: I just found a legit pizza spot on the west coast kind of day.

Greetings Dukes, With the release date of Starfield in September, and the upcoming Liberty Phantom Cyberpunk expansion, does Xbox have to worry if they ship within weeks of each other? I think it should be safe but worry that they would be competing for the same audience.

Enraged Seahawk of Seattle

Hey matty and cog it’s enraged Seahawk again, don’t rub in the Seahawks loss. I just wanna say if pulled the trigger and started my first Bethesda game fallout 3, 76 doesn’t count. My friend when I was in big school convinced me to get 76 with him and I’ve lost contact with him ever since 👀. But man this game is great the few hours I’m in, absolutely loved the intro and the vibe of the game. Enjoying it a lot and I’m just pumped for starfield. Just would like to ask any suggestions to fallout 3 or a new Bethesda fan :) Have a good day and eat some Oreos and get ready for that Seahawk comeback :)

Okay Dukes of Gaming, Let's play Fuck, Marry, Kill with video game adaptations before the Super Mario Bros. Movie comes out. Movies and TV shows/cartoons/anime apply. I'd fuck Mortal Kombat (1995) Marry the Sonic the Hedgehog OVA Kill Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City! The ball is in your court gentlemen! Play fair!

First time write in and long time listener here. Matty I've been watching you since you started covering the fallout 4 leaks and rumors and have been a fan since and found cog and the iron lords through defining duke. But the question I have for my new York boys is with all these hot food takes what is your guys opinion of the Rochester NY classic garbage plate. I've recently moved there a few years ago and love them. My favorite is with chicken tenders over Mac and cheese/fries with any bbq on top. But ask any local it's all about the meat hot that goes on top.

Dillon

Hello fellas Last week, the Starfield Direct and the Xbox Games Showcase were announced for June 11th. Obviously we got all excited but I think we overlooked one thing. It's called the Xbox Games Showcase, not Xbox AND Bethesda showcase. I could be looking too much into this, but does this mean Bethesda's studio are officially one, under Xbox, or do you think Bethesda has nothing to show since Redfall will be out, and Starfield has it's own event, later on that day. Thanks as always, and have an A1 day.

Duke Bros! When Game Pass first came on the scene, there was a lot of talk about how “Game Pass is good for developers”. In recent memory, it seems like that message is no longer being promoted as vocally (or at all). I could be missing something here, which is why I wanted to ask the D-Boi’s… What are the recent success stories? Are developers able to recoup their development costs? More importantly, are they able to make enough to fund their next game? Thank you for considering!

Anonymous

Hey Dukes, This is a PSA Valheim is released on gamepass this week and if you are into crafting/survival games, this is a must play. Do the dukes plan on checking it out?

NeO JD

When you guys buy Game Pass, do you buy it for many months or just 1 month at a time depending on what’s coming out? The reason I ask is because I tend to do the latter, and I’ve noticed every time I do, I have to remember to turn off auto-renew. Thanks and don’t have a “Damn it Xbox, you got me with that auto-renewal charge again” kind of day.

Hey both! I hope you’re both doing well. I have a thought on Microsoft’s 10 year agreements with Nintendo, Nividia and the latest deal with Boosteroid. Have Xbox backed themselves into a corner and over promised their new partners and gamers with the huge commitment of delivering Call of Duty. I feel with the abysmal launch of Halo Infinite their key multiplayer game, I’m actually caught in the middle of this conversation. What do you two think? Will Xbox deliver the same quality Call of Duty games to their new partners or have they over promised and ultimately under deliver? Have a “hang on did I shit myself?” kinda day. Regards, Matt

Hiya Dukes, Today's question is centered around Rare Studios, perhaps Xbox's most successful studio at the moment. My first question is regarding Sea of Thieves and specifically, is it time that Rare drop support for the Xbox One. We all know that there are limitations to the world of Sea of Thieves such as the player count on the servers and also the map size due to the continued Xbone support, a console that is nearly 10 years old now. Is there even an opportunity here to have a relaunch of Sea of Thieves in 2024 as Sea of Thieves 2.0 and really grow the game by breaking free from it's shackles. Secondly, what the hell is going on with Everwild, when do you think we will next see this game and what do you think the game actually is? Would love to know your thoughts?

Alright Dukes, I'm a bit behind on shows, so this may be irrelevant at this point, but I had to address the great "wet TP" issue. It was brought up on the show briefly, but please, let me introduce you to the Holy Church of Ass Wipes. (HCAW) I was introduced to the Church about 10 years ago, and have never looked back. The key, and this is especially for Cog who shuns the Bidet, is that you use the Ass Wipe in COMBINATION with the TP, not alone. Get in there with the TP, like it's your shovel to get the worst of it out, and then follow up with the Ass Wipe to get that "fresh out of the shower" feel. Dude Wipes are fine, but pricey, I highly recommend Cottonelle's version for price/performance value, but find what works for you :-) It's life changing. Give it shot! Have a "no release date is safe" kind of day :-)

Hey boys, great episode of defining duke ultimate! COG got in his bag, and I'm now hoping Starfield is a 10 just so we can get him spicy on twitter. As we approach a slow period ahead of the June showcase (March ghost wire release, april Minecraft, June redfall) I wanted to take a quick temperature check on xbox studios. Quick list below- let us know how you are feeling about the game/team, and when you think we will see the game release: 343- new halo battle royale? coalition- gears 6 compulsion- new IP? double fine- any new remasters, sequel, smaller titles? initiate- PERFECT DARK WHEN inXile- new IP? Mojang- Minecraft in April ninja theory- hellblade 2 and horror game obsidian- outer worlds 2 and avowed playground- fable rare- everwild turn 10- forza july? undead- state of decay 3 worlds edge- new IP? bethesda- starfield alpha dog- mighty doom arkane- redfall, deathloop 2? id software- doom 3? machine games- Indiana jones, Wolfenstein 3? roundhouse- new IP? tango- evil within 3? zenimax online- elder scrolls online

Hey fellas, hope all is great! Ok, I have to speak to your last DDU and the Lord’s rant lol. Love ya Bro don’t get me twisted, I just gotta chime back. I think ya’ll are missing the forest for the trees. Many to most of us I don’t think are trippin about the actual release date vs quality of the game. Delay it till 2030 if that will make the game better, so be it, none of us want the game rushed. But Xbox and Bethseda need to stop talking so far in advance about games that aren’t coming any time soon. Xbox is not in position to be stumbling like it is with its communication to it’s gamers. Do any of us have any idea when Fable, Avowed, Contraband, Perfect Dark or Indiana Jones are coming out? Like really?? Hellblade MIGHT be this year, but yo it might be spring 2025 if delays occur. Matty originally was hyping and pumping Starfield for a 2021 release and it's pushing 2024. Yes that’s just him, but Xbox is so quick about revealing games can we blame Matty? Or Colin for years now saying “WHERE ARE THE GAMES XBOX??”. Bethseda is not much better talking bout Elder Scrolls. I’m just saying Playstation and Nintendo don’t do this stuff. Anyways, I expect the game to be awesome. Have a “Delay your game like Skull and Beyond Good and Evil Bones” kinda day! Jeshua

Hey Dukes. So, with the whole game name abbreviation initiative that Matty has kicked off, why stop what just game names? Can't we expand to studios and publishers in the industry? Square Enix = Squenix Bandai Namco = Bandco Naughty Dog = Notdog Bethesda = Bethda Ninja Theory = Ninjory Any other suggestions fellas? 😂 Thanks as always Matcog!

Andreas Lennartsson

Hey Dukes! Now that cross play in multiplayer games is pretty much standard, should we also call out to standardize cross progression in new single player games? I'm currently playing The Witcher 3 and I love how I can play the same save on PS5 and Steam Deck. Do you think more games should and will implement this function or is it to much of a technical hassle? Have a "you just bought Midnight Suns on PS5 and Steam only to find out that the game doesn't have any cross save functionality" kind of day.

Tyee

Hey dukes I got a game for the both of you where you both have to try guess each others games based on those comments about these games. Comments/reviews can come from steam, metacritic, opencritic, twitter, LSM discord or in Mr Mattyplays comment section. Good luck dukes.

I might be stealing this from snark tank

Hey Duke Bois! Ive got a bone to pick with Matty. A couple of episodes ago i wrote in about a possibility of a licensed "Blade" game. You didn't read my question but you did mention a possibility of a "Blade" game during the show. You had the audacity to claim Blade isnt a big enough IP to warrant a game. The DISRESPECT! Please Cog, straighten this man out and back me up. A Witcher style vampire RPG set in the Blade universe would be diggity diggity dope! It being set in the late 90s would be so nostalgic and cool. Just for context my dad was a huge comic nerd and named me Blade after the character (Im 29), so dont juge me too harshly for the fanboyism. Now which Xbox studio should make it? 🤔 Hope you have toilet paper stuck to your shoe and your crush points it out in front of the whole class kind of day.

Mike Po

Dearest Dukes, Insider Gaming's report on the PS5 Pro got me thinking about what an equivalent console SKU might look like over on the Xbox side of things. Although I would be first in line to buy a machine with more power, I do worry that all of Xbox's various marketing buzzwords might start to become a bit much. Already we have "Xbox One X enhanced" games and games that are "Optimized for Series X/S." From a marketing perspective it's probably cleanest to go with something like "Series X Plus" or "Series X Ultimate" so they can add a small letter or symbol to their "Optimized for Series X/S" logo on a game's thumbnail. Marketing and branding aside, though, what do the Dukes see as the major distinction between a Series X SKU of a game and a "Series X Ultimate" SKU? Better ray tracing effects? 4k 60 fps performance modes? Even better ray tracing in Fidelity modes? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks, and have a "Matty just shortened the name of your favorite 2022 game to 'PlagueReq'" kind of day.

NeO JD

Dukes, if you ever gave up DDU, what are the chances of you doing an anime podcast?

Kickstand

Been a while since I’ve written in, hope you gentlemen are both doing well. One topic I’d appreciate your insight on, is setting Xbox fan expectations for the growing closeness with SEGA. We’ve gotten a lot of Like A Dragon/Yakuza games put on Game Pass, which has been great. However, as important to many of us, is will we start seeing more of Atlus back catalogue hit Xbox in the near future? There were rumors on Reddit in recent weeks about the Shin Megami Tensei V exclusivity on Switch coming to an end, and finally coming home to Xbox. Xbox fans had their hearts broken with Octopath II, and all I’m saying is Microsoft baby, don’t hurt us anymore. Thoughts?

DarkRod99

Hi Dukes, Microsoft from the looks of it, it's giving 10-year deals to a lot of cloud-based platforms, in order to expand the reach of Xbox games. But I was wondering do you think these deals could imply longer development cycle since all these platforms use different API and SDK's that developers have to implement to their engines and also let's not forget about the QA process as well. Do you think this could backfire? Or do you think they can handle it? Have a nice day, Lord Cog and RPG master Matty.

Normal People (Sacshop)

Ahoy fellow joystick lovers I just recently finished listening to this week's show of constellation and I must say - Matty you have surprised me yet again. Hearing your passion for collecting and grading your cards left me a little nostalgic for something that just happened to me in 2020. My best friend Cody randomly buys Pokémon cards and I never have truly cared since I was little and traded my entire binder of base set and jungle set (1 month of jungle release so it was the HOTTNESS) for $120 and I felt like I was fucking ripping this dumbass kid off.... anyways McDonald's decided to do a run of cards with happy meals and this ignited something from my childhood that I could not escape. I was quickly discovering my passion heating up as the Pokémon market was at an all time high with product as scarce as it has ever been. I'm glad we share this similar hook on this hobby and the conversation was great around it. Fun fact my first complete set was BATTLE STYLES fuck me right? Anyways - is there any hobby that either of you share that you feel maybe a little self conscious of telling others about or uncomfortable even hinting at over backlash? Have an actual great day and if you have the opportunity today - make someone laugh. Love you guys and wish you well

Hey Starf Matty and Midnight Sun Cog, Looking over the PS Plus line up for March, including both the Extra and Essential Tiers, and it's curious seeing two MS owned games drop on the service with Rage 2 and Minecraft Dungeons respectively. If MS is willing to put stuff on a competing service like PS Plus, doesn't that imply things are largely okay between the companies? The ABK situation paints MS and Sony going at it with one another but I'm beginning to doubt that somewhat. Have a 'Little Timmy crying looking at a picture of Starfield's September date', kind of day.

I am a gamer that goes where the games I want to play are. I started as a child on the NES, SNES, Sega, N64, GameCube, PlayStation, PS2, Xbox 360, Xbox One and then switched to PlayStation for the last five years when I got a PS4 and then PS5. Xbox just doesn’t have games I want to play (single player story/RPG) right now. I really miss Forza, but that isnt enough for me to buy a Series X. I am literally begging Xbox to make a game that will push me over the edge. Forza has me 50% of the way there, so I’m close. As Cog would say I need “just one” game that will pull me back. I am hoping that game will be Starfield. Before listening to LSM/Duke I didn’t know people didn’t like Fallout 4. I absolutely loved it. It’s the only Bethesda game I’ve played(I would also buy a series X if they remade one of the earlier Fallout games), but I loved it. So if Starfield gets good reviews I will buy a series X. I don’t think I’m the only person like me. I think a lot of us are waiting for a game exclusive to Xbox to pull us over. If Xbox can start putting out this “just one” type games their future could be very bright, bright enough to blind Sony… Probably not lol Love the show, keep it up!
