Delayed Execution | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast, Episode 245

Interesting news broke while we were recording the episode, and we made sure to incorporate it: Rocksteady's beleaguered Suicide Squad game (Kill the Justice League) has been indefinitely delayed from its May release on PlayStation 5, no doubt a response to the drubbing-by-consensus it recently took. Is such a move necessary, and could it right the game's trajectory? Did it even need saving it all? Other news items this week include a wild Jim Ryan quote regarding the Activision-Microsoft deal, a huge firmware update for PS5, the potential of Spider-Man 2 going head-to-head with Starfield, and more. We intersperse our show, as we always do, with listener inquiries, ranging on issues like a remake's eligibility for Game of the Year, skipping cutscenes, playing a single-player title via multiple roles, and the reveal of the soon-to-be-famous Sacred Symbols-themed sandwich at a very special Ohio deli. Jets would be far better off trading away two first round draft picks for Lamar Jackson. Cheaper, younger and at this stage of their respective careers, better than Rodgers. As a 49ers fan, I have my own QB issues. lol

Birthday’s this Sunday, pleasant early gift from the boys. ✊🏾 let’s go

Another great episode of the podcast, you fine gentlemen. I can't wait to watch the Houston Live Show. It's going to be fire and worth the wait.

I had the same issue as Colin in psvr2 and trolled forums about the bluriness and over the first week I had to keep trying new places where I wear it to make it clearer. Idk how it really worked no out but it’s so clear comparatively to me now than first impressions. I do agree that it’s a big problem if someone like me struggles that long. I do have to say that it really is so impressive now that I figured out how to wear it much higher than I expected.

Colin asks why people get upset when he makes fun of android and then goes on to explain why lol.

AC Rogue was the last Gen game that came out opposed to Unity. You play as a Templar whose story impacts Unity. AC 3 has you play as Haytham Kenway, then his son Connor. Haytham is in Rogue… but the larger connection is Haythams father is Edward Kenway who you play as in Black Flag. Not sure that’s worthy of a “correction” but as someone who loves that era of AC… there ya go.

Starfield is the most wished for game on Steam. The nature of Bethesda games leave them way more likely to be going viral consistently with clips. I don't think Xbox is worried about being dwarfed by anybody with Starfield. Spiderman is great but it's nothing ground breaking. Starfield is going to be a behemoth for a decade at least.

Happy Friday Colin, It does indeed look like Supersonic travel is expected to make a come back! (2029 as stated in this 2021 article) https://www.cbsnews.com/news/united-airlines-supersonic-speed-travel/

Since Sony has been quiet for so long I expect an hour and a half long banger showcase this year. I'm excited to see whatever Bluepoint is working on as well as Tsushima 2

Brandon Soto

At this point, if Xbox keeps all the Activision IP exclusive, then so be it. If that ever happened, I’d reach into my PS3-era bag & make as many exclusives as possible.

Dudes, You can try and get out in front of it (and you have), but the flagrance with which you guys (two of you) consume cocaine is getting pretty impossible to ignore or deny. Like, you’re even making joking innuendos about it now. You don’t have to own up. But don’t think us this blind.

I'm absolutely adoring the PSVR2. I skipped the first PSVR, but was an early adopter of the Rift and Rift S. GT7 with a Fanatec Wheel is a unprecedented jump in not just VR, but gaming as a whole. I've also been surprised by a number of the smaller titles on offer. Demeo is quite the gem of a game.

L on Dustin for not knowing how to say Geass and the dub is one of the great ones

Kinda funny said that Before Your Eyes is the best psvr2 game, have you tried it?

Just a note Colin, when MSFT says they care about mobile. It’s not just King. It includes Activision and Blizzard as well. COD Mobile, Warzone Mobile and Diablo Immortal. In ABK’s earnings (including MW2’s historic launch) the mobile segment accounted for 47% of their revenues. That’s why simply divesting COD makes no sense when you can assume COD/Warzone mobile makes a good amount too. I am curious from the Sony statement if we’ll see the big 3 game companies license each other’s content in the future the more subscriptions grow in gaming. Similar to how Netflix licenses content from so many people. PS plus just added Minecraft Dungeons. I do wonder.

The 🐐 anime is Attack on Titan. Colin needs to get back to it. It’s not just a great anime but one of the greatest pieces of fiction I’ve watched in the last 30 years and I’m incredibly picky with what I choose to watch. Dagan knows what’s up.

Ray

PS VR2 got me to fall in love with THUMPER again just like what Dustin was saying. Just platinumed it today. One of my few platinums.

NickBLeaveIt

The Disney ride/franchise is "Pirates of the Car-ruh-BEE-in". "Pirates of the Car-RIB-be-an" is a rap song in Epic Movie.

Greg Dawson

I think you all sometimes forget, names for things in England were given long before your country existed. Our names are correct.

The 🐐 anime is Attack on Titan. Colin needs to get back to it. It’s not just a great anime but one of the greatest pieces of fiction I’ve experienced in many years and I’m incredibly picky with what I choose to watch. I put it up there with Breaking Bad & The Last of Us in terms of incredible character writing/story telling. Dagan knows what’s up.

Colin , nice use of practical rationale to analyze April ONeil’s physical attributes as she interacts with perfectly realistic human sized turtles that are martial arts experts who love to eat pizza.

The reaction to the TMNT pic is gold, don't think I've ever seen Colin laugh that hard lol

I was listening to the audio version and just the sound of the boys dying killed me. Hilarious

Ryan Hayman

yes, in like 10 years of watching, I hear never heard such a hard laugh from him hahaha

if i was a bachelor, i would remove every single fan from the house and replace them all with standalone light fixtures. my detest of cooling-oscillating-blade-devices knows no limits. and this is not an meme like exaggeration.

re: dinocrisis (or whatever) being always online, im right there with ya. i'll play fromsoft games online because i like farming souls off bosses so i coop with strangers just to grind souls, but that's the only bit of online gaming i do. period. my nephew was all "hey man, you should play destiny with me. i think you'll like it" and i said "well, a) i don't own a headset. b) i'm emphatically not going to own a headset. so can i play this game online with you in coop, but in my own world with zero communication back and forth?" the look of complete terror and horror of this poor young lad 😂😂😂😂 i mean, that's how i played elden ring coop. git gud, son. lol

Second season is the best of Stranger Things, I don't know why it doesn't get the most love. It's the start of the Steve and Dustin bro friendship!! It's the best element of the show.

Christopher Heeley

I hate to do it to my boy, but I have to correct Dustin. You do not play as Haytham Kenway (Connor's Dad) in Assassin's Creed Rogue, you play Shay Patrick Cormac. As an aside, Rogue is actually a better game than Assassin's Creed 3 imo - but not many people played it, everyone was more interested in the admittedly fantastic Black flag for the PS4. Rogue was eventually ported to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch making it even better. For anyone sick of the new open-world RPG formula Assassin's Creed has, Rogue is worth going back to for that Classic Assassin's Creed gameplay.

I would expect a Spiderman 2 reveal around the start of June to coincide with the release of Across the spiderverse in cinemas. I'd expect Ben Jordan to make an appearance in the film too

superbadisfunny .

Colin I'm very much with you on seeming as though we need to constantly be doing 10 things at once. I'm 30 and remember when you simply did one or two things. In the past year I've focused on tryna to do less and have more focus. I felt way more anxious now then I ever did but am getting better as I (devolve). You not alone with that thought.
