Hey CDC, if Xbox is unable to acquire Activision/Blizzard, is this the final nail in the coffin for Xbox leadership? Also, will we see the past repeat with what happened to Sega and their last console, with PlayStation and Nintendo’s success essentially forcing Xbox to become a publisher only?

Hey CDC, Had a great time at the Houston Live Show! I was wondering if any of you ended up stopping at Buc-ee’s while in town, and if so, did the restrooms live up to the hype? Thanks and keep it filthy

Hey CDC, I've been playing quite a bit of PSVR2 and quite honestly, I'm thoroughly impressed with the step up in quality from PSVR1. Games like GT7, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Pistol Whip have provided great experiences that showcase the possibilities of PSVR2. My question is, how many games per quarter need to be released moving forward to make VR sustainable? I believe if Sony can release one triple A game per quarter or multiple smaller titles per quarter across first, second, and third party studios, there will be more than enough content to make the investment worth it. What say you?

Howdy Sacred Crew, Although not directly Sacred Symbols related, I must write in about something Colin mentioned on Constellation and issue a firm 'Stand Down'. Colin- when speaking about Life Hacks, you mentioned that you see yourself as a manufacturer of free time, and you do the best you can to save yourself a few minutes wherever possible. I find this quite odd, as over the last several weeks you've taken umbrage with the fact that many of your listeners enjoy Sacred Symbols at speeds greater than 1x. In your own examples, you speak about how you listen to podcasts while working out, and have explained that you do this while gaming as well. What gives? While I won't defend 5x Speed Star Trek Guy, most members using 1.5x speed often do so because it allows us to get through more content in a shorter amount of time, therefore-much like yourself-maximizing the amount of free time we have. You've scoffed at this idea in the past, stating that listeners who do this aren't getting the most out of the content and aren't listening to it as intended, but can't the same be said for you since your podcast listening is often accompanied by other tasks? Would the hosts of 'Around the NFL' say that you're listening to the show wrong because you're doing so while on the elliptical, instead of on the couch? Are you getting the most out of their content if you're listening to it while multitasking? Who am I to say? While I can't speak for everyone, one of my most effective 'Life Hacks' is litening to content at 1.5x speed, and I do so because it helps me do everything I want to do with the limited amount of free time I have. It may sound crazy to you, but at least I'm not backing my scooter into the garage at night just to 'save' time from doing so in the morning! From the many listeners who utilize 1.5x speed: Stand Down! Thanks for all you guys do. Keep killing it!

Hey, I joined Patreon to write this letter. With all of the Dead Space hype, why isn’t Glenn Schofield being brought up? Glenn is one of the great game directors of all time. His name should live with names like Neil, Cliff, Levine, Houser, and Kojima. If the roles were switched with any of those directors, where their game was remade without as much as a thank you to them, there would be an uproar. Do I have my facts wrong? Is my adoration misplaced? Why aren’t people making more of a fuss about his absence? Thanks.

Hello, boys. I'm 44 and new to VR, and I've found that PS VR2 has rekindled my sense of awe and wonder that I had in the early days of video games. Suddenly, I'm curious and interested in every title being announced and released on the platform. Also, it seems that developers are more open to experimenting with new concepts and game mechanics. All in all, it feels like the good old days all over again. I'm curious to know if any of you share this sentiment, as the topic of games becoming too similar is a recurring discussion on the show. Thanks for all you do.

Greg Shapiro

Greetings gents, Was wondering if any of you played Wanted: Dead or are interested in it all? It’s from studio Soleil which is compromised of some Ninja Gaiden vets. It’s quite janky with terrible voice acting but it has some charm to it. It’s in the same vein of the super high difficulty of Ninja Gaiden. I just found out about it a few days ago and it released on the 14th with not much promotion for it. Would love to hear your thoughts on it if any. Take care and let that poultry breathe a bit.

Greetings Sacred Symbol Studs, Do you ever see one of the PlayStation studios investing in creating a high quality AAA 3D Platforming Collectathon style game akin to Super Mario Odyssey? I am a huge 3D Platforming fan and feel there are very few high quality games made in this genre outside of Nintendo. A few indie developer have tried with things like Yooka-Laylee or a Hat in Time, but you can tell they have a limited budget with those games. I feel Astrobot would be the perfect IP to do it or even Sackboy. Love all the amazing content and stay studly my friends!

Greetings gents. Quick question for Colin - Have you been following the Dead Cells news that there is going to be a Castlevania-centric DLC with a fully licensed soundtrack, items such as the axe and holy water, and a whole new area to explore? Seems right up your alley, though i can't remember if you've played Dead Cells

Hey, gentlemen! I know the food inquiries can get a bit grating, but I want to share a discovery that I made recently.

Hey CDC. As you have probably seen the response to Suicide Squad has been abysmal. However one particular comment on Reddit caused me to take notice, that "the Games as a Service ship sailed ages ago" and that "everyone who is interested in this concept has chosen their game by now. Some people are Destiny, others are CoD, some are Fortnite or Apex. Nobody has time to keep up with 5 or 6 services at the same time." If this is true, where does that leave Factions? Factions has been in development for a while, but has that GaaS shipped sailed and is there a risk that Factions will be dead on arrival?

Hello Sacred Crew, I need to know if you have an answer for my question that I presented to you all before the live show. It is a question that keeps me up at night, and I think about often. Hopefully you have had time to think and come up with your own conclusions, but I need to know, how long does it take for a giraffe to throw up? Also with all the dunking on sega in Houston, it got me thinking. Were they actually way ahead of their time? As a kid we had the sega channel which hooked the genesis directly up to cable and streamed an offering of games in a Netflix style presentation. This was the early 90’s and now we have game pass and PlayStation plus doing it now. Does this mean sega and the beloved hedgehog were the true innovators, or that people don’t play games in this way and would rather own them? Thank you for all the great content.

Sup Suckas A couple weeks ago Chris mentioned going to a pizza place in California named Joe’s and it got me thinking… Just how many pizza shops in America are named Joe’s? I live in Dallas and I swear I’ve been to at least 9 different pizza places named Joe’s, none of which have any connection to the other, and half of them aren’t even ran by Italians. Is there some ancient God of Pizza named Joe I haven’t discovered yet? Is every 3rd Italian man in New York named Joe? Are all pizza shop owners required to change their name to Joe before opening? I need answers

Hey CDC, Do you think Sony intentionally minimized their own and Naughty Dog's branding in The Last of Us show? I work in 3 different medical office buildings and in each location I have overheard multiple coworkers discussing how much they enjoy the show. When I explain that the show is based on a Playstation video game from 10 years ago I am generally met with shocked expressions. Several people stated that if they had known it was based on a video game they would not have started watching the show. When I inquire as to why, the responses seem to generally fall under a social stigma associated with video games being for children or something not to be taken seriously. I know this is anecdotal, but surely these can't be isolated occurrences and I am sure many people feel the same way. Do you think Sony was aware of this possible mainstream bias and made the conscious decision to diminish their personal branding? Do you think future shows will similarly aim to downplay their involvement? If they do not feel comfortable touting their brand alongside a flagship IP, how could they do so with their other projects?

Hello, CDC This question is mainly for Colin. It may have been answered already,. I have never heard you talk about trying Persona 5 after loving P4 Golden so much. Will you consider giving Persona 5 Royal a shot? Now that you've played and enjoyed P4 so much. Thank you, guys for all the amazing content. Love and Respect.

To the guy who’s trying to think of CLS related names for his deli heroes. I’d like to suggest the delectable KFT(Keep F’ng That)Chicken sandwich. And on the menu board just draw the Sacred logo next to it. Congrats on your deli. Wishing you continued success.

Greetings, Gunky Gamer Gang! These past couple weeks, you've no doubt seen the myriad A.I.-generated voiceover memes starring everybody's least favorite political figures. While they're always good for a laugh, my write-in today revolves around the same tool's emerging use by game modders to create content for games using the professional, in-game voice actors as a base. Most can agree that free, fan-created content is relatively harmless, but how do you think this could affect professional voice-acting in the future? I've seen many online be quick to lament the death of the artform, some going so far as to call this an unethical use of one's likeness. Although I'm hesitant to join these people, I find it hard to believe this tech will have zero impact outside of jokes and memes. Has automation come for the voice actors, or is there hope for us fleshy mortals yet? As always, stay goopy. (An example of modded voices in Skyrim: https://twitter.com/OldMemeClown/status/1630046700197797888 )

Hey cdc Late last week larian studios responded to boulders gate 3 being a console ps5 exclusive. Interestingly they said it is n0t exclusive but they ran into technical difficulties running co-op to the same standard on series s and x. I'm not gonna say Colin was right but.. didn't you talk about this being a potentially issue? We you are forced to create a game that works on many different platforms you have to make it work on the lowest common denominator. The commitment to both s and x might prevent bg3 coming out on Xbox at all. Do you all think this is a one of or will we see more incidents of this? Cheers from pittsburgh

Hey CDC, Quick question... When will the taped coverage of the recent live Sacred Symbols come out? Colin could probably use this question to reveal the announcement (hopefully) And as always STAND DOWN from F'n that chicken my boys 😏

Hey Guys, Sony has the hard numbers on sales. I believe the variety of games bought have one game everyone buys and it’s Call of Duty. As a retire military most of my coworkers bought COD. Some only bought Sports games , others RPGs or fighting games, but all had one game in common that was COD. I believe Sony knows that the whatever system they buy COD determines the sales of other games. Marketing rights plays a big factor in COD and Sony knows it.

Sir Colin Powell, I’m super stoked for your upcoming JrPG game developed at lilymo. Some of my favorite RpGs are ones with unconventional settings. Like disco Elysium and persona. With your knowledge of history I think a JRPG set in the George Washington times or an American civil war JRPG would be so cool, and I think your just the one to do it. I can just see the unintentionally promotional kotaku articles now…. I know your next game is likely not this. But have you toyed around with making a game set in a somewhat realistic early America. I think your fans would eat that up. I know I would love to see some controversial topics covered in your game

Good Day Gentlemen, My wife and I had a great time at the Houston live show, and I had to tell you all about an encounter I had before the show. While waiting in the lobby for my wife to come out of the restroom, I noticed a well-dressed man in a sport coat and dress pants looking around at the crowd of fans. He approached me and very earnestly asked, "Hey, what is this?" Caught a bit off guard, I chuckled before explaining to him what we were all there for. As I did, I could see a look of confusion, amusement, and disgust all slowly wash over his face. He took a moment to respond, but all he was able to utter was a simple, "oh" before abruptly turning around and walking away, presumably to find the theater showing Moulin Rouge.

Gday With the news that Colin and Micah may be coming to Australia. There is one thing you absolutely have to experience. Australian Kfc. Especially the chips with extra salt. They are unmatched. We Australians do things rather differently. With all our food food being smaller, but it’s some good stuff. Especially McDonald’s. Kind regards Ryan

Zan McClelland

As someone who just moved from Paducah, Kentucky to Melbourne two weeks ago on a Working Holiday Visa I must agree with you on the KFC "chips." That being said I have some serious issues with how Sneaky Ron is running his restaurants down under. For starters the portions are indeed much smaller than I am used too so I felt like a glutton on my last lunch visit whenever I ordered two McDoubles and a McChicken. I was a little weirded out by the McChickens sesame seed bun but was much more surprised and disgusted whenever I bit down into one of the burgers to unexpectedly taste mustard. Mustard should never be on a McDonalds burger no matter where I am in the world. I am going to have to issue a strong STAND DOWN to the Sneaky Aussie Ron’s and in the meantime I am going to keep fuckin that Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I'm loving my VR2 so far. RE Village and GT7 are amazing. Horizon CotM was a little disappointing. It's still good and it's so cool seeing the machines "in person" but it feels more like a mountain climbing simulator and can be kind of exhausting. I missed out on the Moss games last gen so I'm really enjoying both of those as well. Cheers!

Anonymous

Hello CDC, Why is it that so many people overlook that one of the biggest reasons Xbox lost last gen and continuing into this gen is that from the 360 era when they had the edge because of party chat and it being the best place to play with friends, they tried to stranglehold their loyal player base by forcing connectivity, mandatory Kinect usage and the blocking of used games. Doesn't that speak to what they are doing now? They haven't changed In my opinion, they are just doing it differently. Thoughts? Always a pleasure tuning in to you guys.

Hello, boys. When it comes to marketing, is all exposure a good thing? What I mean by this is when you're watching porn and there's someone pretending to play the PS5 because they have a controller in hand before getting fucked like a pretzel, is this good advertising for Sony? Do they care? Has anyone ever finished after watching said porn and thought, 'Damn, I'm gonna go buy a Playstation now?' Anyways, have a great day!

Emiliooooo

Hi CDC, what's your opinion on the Valve Steam deck? I got one on launch day and fell in love. PlayStation has been releasing their exclusives on Steam and they play really well on the handheld. Does that cement Sony's exit from the handheld market or do you think we'll ever see a Vita 2? Have a blessed one fellas

Mark M

Hey Sacred Lads. I've been seeing a lot of anger at the FF16 creators online in relation to a variety of topics. The discussion around race you've covered before, but also Yoshi P's feelings that JRPG is sometimes used negatively, his perception of the Final Fantasy franchise's stagnation, and also FF16's approach to difficulty. Not sure if you have any thoughts on these, but I wanted to mention them as the tone around these conversations has left a bad taste in my mouth. A lot of people talking down to Yoshi P and the team, acting as if they understand these topics better than them and ignoring a lot of the context and detail in what was said. For example, Yoshi P not saying that JRPG is an inherently negative term, just that it is sometimes used as a way to box in and deride Japanese games. Yet his comments are presented as an attack on the term at large and anyone saying it. This seems as demeaning and ignorant as certain outlets saying 'we need to stop giving Japanese games a pass when it comes to cultural issues', which is still crazy to me. Anyway I'll stop rambling, but this has bothered me and I'm curious to see if any of you have noticed something similar. Cheers!

Hey you SLSS’ (Sassy Little Sacred Scoundrels), I wanted to write in thanking Collin for one of the best laughs I’ve had in a long time. During the Last of Us episode 6 spoiler talk, Collin so matter of factly speculated as to why the two Native Americans in the cabin were so fat so long after the collapse of civilization? He went as far as to consider a secret meaning behind their obeseness. I couldn’t stop laughing. I think it’s pretty obvious the show runners put zero thought into that and just cast a couple of actors. So hearing Collin go on and on about how fat they were made me literally laugh out loud. Then I thought I heard Micah giggle because she was thinking the same thing, but when Collin asked her she kind of covered it up and played into his ‘speculation’. I sensed a similar almost laughing Dustin response as well. Thanks for such a great laugh Collin. Only in my dreams will the actors be driving in their car listening to you speculate why they are so fat 🤣

Heyo CDC. I would consider myself more of a narrative gamer, the opposite to Collin, I’ve never gotten 100% in a game. It’s been something that has intrigued me with certain games, but often I get to fatigued with some tasks ( like the Merlin challenges and demiguise statues in hogleg) What are your guy’s thoughts and or tips on this? Thanks.

Anonymous

Greetings chicken fuckers. Last week while speaking about Atomic Hearts not getting a walk through made for the trophies, Colin mentioned that there were games that "broke him" back when he was writing strategy guides. And now I'm just curious, which games have brought the mighty Mr. Moriarty to his knees on the quest for the platinum? Thanks for the content and keep on trucking.

Hey guys! I hope you are all well rested after your Texan endeavor. After listening to Dustin's comments on Constellation about visiting Buc-ee's for what I assume is the first time, I had to ask this: Is there a region based chain that you would want in your area? For this Tennessee dweller, it's In-N-Out. I've never had it. Have a great one guys. P.S. I first went to Buc-ee's last November the day that my girlfriend's mother died. Her idea AFTER the fact.

Hey boys, After an over year (yes, it has taken me that long and I’m not sure why) I have arrived at the final episode of Seinfeld. It seems that all good things must come to an end… but even though I fully intend to restart the show over from the beginning again, I can’t bring myself to hit ‘play’ on that last final outing. That got me thinking - are there any games that you have loved over the years that you just couldn’t finish because you couldn’t bring yourself to end that experience and close the final chapter of the story? PS - what are your favourite episodes? Nick

Hey guys, Just hoping Chris would give us an update on his new year goal of watching a film each week. You mentioned RRR (which is really fun btw!) and Puss in Boots (also amazing!), but what else? Please keep updating us because I decided to do the same thing this year and I want to expand my horizons. Kind regards, Chef

Sacred Crew, Just wanted to add to the discussion on the term 'Chippers' sounding offensive. At work on Thursdays a group of us visit a slider truck and we have now coined the term, "Getting slid!" To refer to visiting said truck. We use this term as a drug addict would. "Hey boys! We gettin' slid today?", "You boys wanna get slid?", and "We got slid at lunch today." are all common terms within our office. We specifically use the term because of how visceral it is. What say you? Thanks for all the great content.

Hey Sacred Sandwich crew with extra Sacred Sauce, With the introduction of ChatGPT and the updated Bing with AI, do you guys see this type of AI being brought into gaming and how could it be used? Would it be cool to have an actual droid in a Star Wars game that you may be able to have full conversations with while playing? Thank you for all you do!

Hey guys! First time writing here 😁

That Smoke from Canada

Gents, How are we feeling about PS Stars these days? I signed up back around Christmas time and have just mostly left it to be. I checked in with the service two days ago and I had enough points to exchange for about $10. Nothing crazy but it's nice that we can be rewarded for just playing games - especially lesser known ones with lots of uncommon trophies. Anyways, thanks for the content and stay frosty! P.s. to the write-in from last week who was looking for turn-based card games: check out Inscryption

With the success and awesomeness of Dead Space Remake. Have you guys wanted to replay Dead Space 2? Just to see how they may change things up with the story of gameplay? Honestly I'm playing the game again Zealot and I am dying like crazy. Also, the game is giving me the creeps. 👀 I completed this game like 4 to 5 times.

Hello Sacred Group, With PSVR2 buzz in full swing with it now being out in the wild, I'm seeing an overwhelming amount of chatter around the desire to see Half-Life: Alyx eventually make its way to the system - not to mention you guys expressing the same in the past. I'm confused by this. I think of Half-Life to Valve as Halo to Microsoft. In what fantasy world are PlayStation gamers living in where they think Valve would release their golden goose into another ecosystem in which they are competing? Would you ever express a desire to play Halo on PS5? It's about as silly as it gets in that framing. Colin has always brought in "heritage" into the equation and the only loose heratige that exists between Valve and the console makers is The Orange Box that came out over 15 years ago (and yeah, a port of Portal 1 & 2 on Switch). Please, help me understand the rationale as to why Valve should or would entertain the notion of porting HL: Alyx to PSVR2.

yosh_wah

Hi guys, To what extent does replayability play into a game's greatness? I keep seeing God of War: Ragnarök make headlines for being nominated for a number of awards. While I think the game was excellent, I loath the idea of playing through it again. It was too long, in my opinion, and I hate the idea of playing through many of the story sections in the game (especially if you can't skip cutscenes). I feel similarly about many PlayStation first party titles, like Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Last of Us Part II. Games like Ocarina of Time, Hollow Knight, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night resonate with me more because they are always fun to play, they get the player right into the game without bloated storytelling, and are simply timeless. Is a game great if it is merely a flash in the pan and only worth one solid playthrough? Or is a game great because it keeps drawing players in and encourages players to replay? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this topic. Thanks for providing me with endless hours of entertainment.

Jeff Caseres

Hey Colin and Crew! This one is more so for Colin. Colin, stay away from Dying Light 2 Platinum. There are still trophies that are bugged. One of them just happened to me last night, and there are some collectibles are tied to side quests that COULD in fact get locked if you don't talk to a certain person at a certain time throughout the story. If it gets locked you are then forced to New Game plus. There's also a trophy that requires you to run a distance of 960km, it took me three days of playing AND rubber banding. Just gave up on it last night, I'm done! Dead Island 2 is looking great 👀.

Billy boob

Hey guys So Dreams has been nominated for best Evolving game at the BAFTAs is this a British bias or is this deserved? I bought dreams when it was in the cheap faze hoping it would grow but honestly whenever I check I still see the same levels I have for ages, nothing much has changed that I can see and it not being on PC is actually ridiculous. The community isn’t so active for what I can see either the subreddit is fairly quite and not a lot of action on Twitter. I never actually played anything really incredible on there either… I doubted you on this one as I like MM but Colin was right on this one and it’s a flop, imo Peace ✌🏻

Sergio Pina

Hey guys, I'm wondering with the launch of PSVR 2, what you all think it needs in order to be more successful than PSVR1? The truth is, the Quest 2 will always have the bigger market share in the VR space due to barrier of entry cost and ease of playing untethered. People who don't really play video games have a Quest 2. Non-gamers don't have a PS5 and PSVR 2 just for VR, so I think Sony needs to focus on gamers who are already PlayStation gamers, as opposed to trying to get Quest 2 players to switch from Quest to PSVR 2. In order to do this, you need to secure as many games that you can only play on PSVR 2. Most games on PSVR 2 are available on Quest, it's the fact of the matter. Sure, some of the better games like Horizon, Resident Evil 8 and GT7 are exclusive, but most of the other really fun ones are on both. Sony needs to leverage more of their IP into exclusive VR content. Don't dedicate your own studios, - with the exception of London and Asobi who have proven they can already do it - but instead contract out and pay 3rd party veteran VR studios to make VR games of various varieties. For open world/survival type games, make exclusive VR games out of Days Gone, Uncharted and The Last of Us. For shooters, make games out of Killzone, Resistance and The Order: 1886 (You want the Order to finally make a comeback? Make it VR game, that would be awesome). For Stealth games, make a VR game using the Syphon Filter. For a fun hack and slash game, make a Heavenly Sword VR game. For a space flight simulator, make Colony Wars VR for god sakes. For car combat make Destruction Derby VR and Twisted Metal VR. For music ryhtym bring back Parappa the fuckin' Rappa in VR. There's so many places for Sony to go with PSVR 2, they just need to open up the wallet to do it. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

The Lizard King

Hi guys, Colin, a quick thank you for helping me no longer obsess about trophies. I fell into the habit of only playing games depending on the trophy list. I have a backlog of so many great games that I knew I would never get to due to the trophies. Whether it be too much of a grind, multiplayer based or require multiple play throughs. I have even avoided co op games recently as a result. I know that you are not as controlled by trophies as I am but listening to you describe the farming method in Dead Space made me realise how I have played games over the last few years, always looking at ways to play games in order to earn a platinum rather than just enjoyment. I will still look at a trophy list when I have a finished a game I like going forward and if it’s no real effort to obtain then that’s fine but no longer will I be on Power Pyx when trophy guides are up to determine whether I play. I started this unhealthy habit in 2015 with The Witcher 3 and I have ended this with The next gen Witcher 3 so it does seem fitting. Thanks for reading of you did

Anonymous

Hey lads, So Sony has been ordered to hand over proof that they've been signing exclusivity contracts with various partners, ones where money exchanges hands (shock!). What, if any, difference do you think this actually makes to the arguments being made? It seems Microsoft is trying to argue that "PlayStation exclusive" or "PlayStation console exclusivity" means "Keep off Xbox" and I'm left thinking: "Yeah, it's probably not that other - non-exclusive - exclusivity.". What's the play here? Seems Microsoft is trying to prove that water is wet, but surely there's more to it? Thanks for the content, Paul
