Reminiscence | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 271

Please welcome Ramon Narvaez to the show. The entire Last Stand audience will know Ramon best for his music: He wrote and performed each of our theme songs. But some will also know that Ramon is my (Colin's) best friend, and has been for 20 years. And recently, he came to Virginia to visit for a few days. While he was here, I knew I had to sit down with him for an episode of Sacred+, because as I understood things, he's rediscovered video games in a pretty major way. Thus, we sat down for a lengthy discussion about his history with our hobby, how he lost interest and lost touch following college, and then rediscovered them with great vigor in his mid-to-late-30s. Hopefully, this will be a relatable chat for many of you, who are close to people in your lives who nonetheless don't quite 'love' or 'understand' the medium quite like we do. Turns out, there's always hope. Nonetheless, we chat about many, many games and eras here: The NES, SNES, and Genesis, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, sports games galore, Tony Hawk, Mario, Oddworld, and Hades... the list goes on.

There's a genuine happiness that I get when I hear you call him your best friend every time you mention him. I've always found that to be quite meaningful considering people throw that phrase around quite casually these days.

Was hyped hearing Ramon was a huge WWF fan growing up. I was a huge fan of the show, games and still go back and watch old PPVs for the nostalgia fix as well. When WWF was good, it was damn GOOOOOD. Would love some type of episode in the future where he’s able to talk about his love for professional wrestling specifically.

I beat Mario Odyssey when it came out, but I wasn’t a fan of the worlds & how many moon pieces you had to collect. I should give it another chance though. The movement is really good.

Please do more Sacred with Ramon in the future

Ahh...keeping track of your own leagues, stats and standings. I used to do this all the time. The WWF/E games were my vice of choice. Keeping track of who wrestled who, the outcomes, who was champion, who had the longest streaks etc. They basically have that mode in WWE games now, called Universe mode, but I preferred my old note pads and then excel sheets with every bit of data at my finger tips.

Awesome, was looking forward to this

Im not sure if Ramon does podcasts or presenting regularly but honestly he is legit awesome at it, completely a natural. Not sure if it has to do with just talking to his best friend or not but its really great and interesting. Awesome episode!

What a throwback. I rented that Royal Rumble game almost every weekend from the local Video Store! It singlehandedly got me into wrestling.

Lance

That was painful. Dude just drones on and on and on and never gets a to a point. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I don't want to hear him on the podcasts going forward.

Tonys_Always_Write

I really enjoyed this convo. Ramon was also great on Constellation!

I'm sure Colin noted that and will never allow his best friend on the show ever again. The sense of entitlement in some people...

Lance

Entitlement? Lol. You have a very long and tough life ahead of you my friend, if you don't understand the concept of discourse and differing opinions. We're all paying customers here, and that's what the comment section is for. So goodluck with that.
