The British government has released a mildly-redacted -- but largely intact -- 20-something page writeup from a law firm representing PlayStation. Dated late October of this year (but new to all of us), Sony attempts to retort, basically line-by-line, Microsoft's various contentions about the pending Activision-Blizzard-King deal that has fascinated the industry for the better part of 12 months. Though we all share a relative malaise about this subject, there's huge news within this document, and we couldn't help but go through it in great detail, garnering as much information as we can out of it about Sony's operation, that of its competitors, and the various theories and gamesmanship behind the completion or destruction of one of tech's all-time biggest acquisitions, one that could affect the very future of the PlayStation brand (or so they claim). And yes, we also get to other news -- Sony is publishing two flashy Chinese games as second party products, God of War: Ragnarok sells huge, and more -- and, as always, we rounded things out with inquiries from our beloved audience. How're we feeling about Forspoken now that it's a couple of months out? Does physical software have a future on PlayStation 6? Demon's Souls won a newbie Souls fan over, so where does he go next? I have to fully agree with how SS services agnostic gamers. The tone and analysis manages to straddle a really fine line. Everything feels fair and never do I feel like the crew are beating their chest "For PlayStation".

You guys keep relentlessly teasing us Brits, but we're still going to welcome you with open arms when you finally decide to stop by.

Cat Daddy

Lord willing at this point. My day slinging packages for fedex just had me in a mood.

I agree with Colin that we have yet to see MS make quality games but I will say Grounded is super underrated right now and it definitely delivers as a GamePass/Xbox game along with Pentament as well. It’s true they have yet to prove themselves but Obsidian is starting to give them points in that regard. Also imo, Bethesda has always had a better relationship with MS and Xbox over PS. I thought that purchase was pretty organic.

1:07:00 Colin went on his Tupac at the end of "Hit em up" rant. Loved it.

Colin, you cannot continue to claim that COD would stay on PlayStation, because of a quote from Phil Spencer. Whatever he says doesn't mean anything, as Phil has a record of claiming stances and back-paddling them after some time. Continuously! Just remember what he said about the toxicity of exclusives, just to change his stance completely after a few months (months!), claiming: "The Bethesda deal was always about exclusive titles for Gamepass subscribers". I understand your point. I also think it would be crazy to remove COD from PS. But the argument for that cannot be words from someone who's a proven liar, and since MS started to be real aggressive (Bethesda buy-out) Phil continuous to say what he needs to say at the given moment and just that. Nevertheless, awesome work on the document analysis. If only Kotaku and Polygon writers (as I will not call them journalists) would put 1/10th of what you put in to research the topic, we would have a different industry.

I'm glad people like Grounded. I would again suggest that game was in development before Obsidian was purchased.

Do you guys realise how diverse Europe is? Italy is Europe and you’re discussing black pudding 😂

Germanos

Not to mention 90% of US food are European rip-offs 🤣

Al Rodriguez

Thats because 90% of Americans don't have heritage in America because of how young it is.

Mario Diosdado

I mean, Italian food, come on

Cass Whelan

Genuinely plant based turkey is better than real turkey because it's more moist. Fight me.

Part of me wonders if Sony is opening Pandoras box here, the verbiage used could even be applied to their own practices in some cases and there's a possibility of them irreparably burning bridges, a lot of people stand to lose out on a lot of money if it is blocked. Maybe they think its worth it maybe it will be business as usual. Personally I would much prefer a reality where Microsoft gets call of Duty and continues to make it available everywhere switch, cloud whatever rather than the FTC blocks tells them "no, this is how you do business" and they proceed to take that cash and just money hat shit much in vein of Deathloop, FF7R, Ghostwire, KOTOR remake etc. But thats me. The fallout will certainly be interesting whatever happens.

Yes, my God of War experience is being hampered by the puzzles being spoiled by the characters. These games don't need to be made for monkeys, don't put puzzles in the game if you won't let me solve them. It's actually my singular complaint with it - fantastic game otherwise.

Is consolidation and less streaming services for gaming not preferable to every gaming company having their own separate streaming service like we have right now for tv and movies? Just a thought.
