Truth be told, we (The Brothers Moriarty) went into The Cabin in the Woods totally blind. Unlike our other romps through horror fare this October, we've both never seen this film... at least until preparing to record this episode. While controversial in nature -- it is, after all, a Joss Whedon joint -- The Cabin in the Woods happens to be a well-respected horror film for one specific reason: It's really good. Turning the genre on its head, poking fun at its archetypes and tropes, and even laying a greater groundwork for the actual meaning behind horror itself, Cabin in the Woods is a clever and thought-provoking flick, and we're thrilled to give it its due here on KnockBack. So listen, before we bind you with ancient logics.

This is an awesome movie but I’m surprised you guys didn’t do the original Halloween film. As far as I can tell, you’ve covered Halloween the holiday, but not the film.

I might be misremembering, but I recall my personal realization that Joss Whedon was an unhinged guy was when he was saying on Twitter that he was glad his mom was dead so that she didn't have to experience Trump's term in office. I seem to remember him getting in hot water for that too

Apologies if i should know better, but where would one go to submit a dad joke to Dagan?

On re-watching this, I'd forgotten how early the "twist" is revealed. The people behind the scenes are shown constantly through the first act, even the force field thing keeping them in is shown on the approach. But my memory was that it played out like a typical horror movie for most of the film, then comes the big reveal that all is not as it seems. I think if it were to end where the shot pulls out to reveal all the monsters in their glass boxes, they would have had to hold back some of what they show beind the scenes to that point. Theres definately a version of this story that couldve kept it all right to the end.

Yeah. There are a few different ways it could have gone that I think could have strengthened it.

"Buzzin' the tower. Not givin me a berth" Dagan's neighbor situation is giving me quality Larry David vibes.
