Introducing The Sacred Sales Saga | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 237

A few weeks ago, we launched The Sacred League here on Sacred Symbols+, but in reality, it's only half of a larger initiative I (Colin) have. You see, my intent is simple: To create repeatable, trackable content over months and years (in the spirit of some of the sports podcasts I listen to), so that we can follow trends, make fun bets, and compete with each other and the audience alike. To that end, I developed The Sacred Sales Saga. What is it? Well, this + subseries will come out each month, and will track the PSN sales charts as shared on the official, Sony-run PlayStation Blog. This data comes in the form of tables that I've folded down into more readable, interesting tables, tracking overall placement, trends, and more. The game, therefore, revolves around harnessing all of this minute information into something definitive. Each month, we'll craft our own Top 20 PlayStation 5 games downloaded lists, and then score it all the following month based on the real thing. At that point, we'll introduce our next predictions, and so on and so forth. Trust me when I say there's a lot of fun to be had here, and I hope you'll join us for this ride, one that -- like The Sacred League -- will never go to free feeds, and is exclusive to Last Stand's Patreon.

Just wanted to saying I’m digging the new structure to sacred symbols plus. These two new sports like episodes seem neat and the emphasis on defining duke cross overs are great. Keep up the great work guys

I’m all in. This is good shit

This is a very good idea. As someone who was WAY into sales-age back in the PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 generations (when we received good data from the NPD and they would give actual sold units instead of rank-ordered lists) I am into this stuff. However, one suggestion….I think the idea is cool but I would recommend finding some way for the community to also compete to take this to the next level. Some process for capturing the communities members individual lists for each month and even if possible the ability to cumulatively score community members over multiple months if they compete over multiple months. This is a good starting point, and that would make me more excited about it. It would scratch the itch between fantasy football/sports and bragging rights on industry sales knowledge.

This feels like the beginning of Final Fantasy 8

Just spitballing - one fun thing you guys could add here, since you're looking at each calendar year as a "season", is that you could each pick one permanent fixture to your roster. A Game that will collect points for you each time it charts, based on its position, for the entire year. Without your having to add it to your 20 each time. So for example if one of you had picked Elden Ring this year as your permanent, it would've done extremely well for you! But it's always a gamble, because even if a game is huge, who knows how much staying power it'll have, or whether it'll be reviewed well in the first place. Just an idea! EDIT: Just realized this would be an unfair advantage for those who choose a game that launches earlier in the year. Perhaps you could say it nets those bonus points for the first 4-6 months after release, then stops. So if Colin picked a game in January, it's done collecting points for him by July. And if Dustin picks a game that launches in March, it continues collecting points until September. Could add some really exciting last minute comeback potential!

Chris saying that he forgets sometimes that Golf is real was hilarious

Yeah, for sure. Was just trying to brainstorm a way to add some curveballs and upsets. If it's just lists of 20 every week and that's the only way to net points, it may become somewhat dry over time because everyone will likely know what to pick. But you've already got the setup in a great place, and I trust in you to take this thing to the next level. It's a really fun idea man!

The pre-season has started. I'm very excited.

Although I don't watch sports, I love the idea of the show. Maybe the winner can make the loser play a game of his choosing. It can be absolutely horrible. Sth like "ride to hell retribution".

Gotta get BenjiSales in on this.

Just had to throw in an old school "Colin was right". As you were describing the system I wasn't completely sold but as soon as you guys got to the lists and things started playing out I was really into it. Looking forward to seeing this play out in the coming months. Great idea.

I've been in a footy tipping competition for 10+ years. These kinds of things are relevant to my interests. Add some real stakes and I'm in! Is there going to be a version of the spreadsheet we can all use to play along or am I going to have to notepad it 😅
