It's a question certainly worth asking at this point. 2022 is a year we've seen triumphs like Elden Ring and scary disasters such as Crossfire X. Between the quality disparities, diverse story length, varied financial approaches, and the ability to update any game, the current framework for games is far from perfect. That said, are we living in the best of times and just not knowing it? I (Matty) aim to open that conversation up in a tighter, bite sized piece here on Ultimate.

Lol no

Hell no, live service launches are hilariously bad and even campaign games like Gotham knights are bad, can’t even be optimized properly for console.

Alex Roberts

This was a nice little episode, Matty held the fort down well on his own!

I’ll say no. I’ve spent most of this year playing older titles I’ve missed out on or just wanted to revisit because the release lineup has been so weak. I’m not the Elden Ring guy so this year for me has pretty much been Horizon 2, Wonderlands, and Pokémon Arceus. 2022 is gonna go down in the books as a weak year and Elden Ring’s year.

Wyvborn

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Elden Ring alone made this a good year in my opinion. Also, say what you will about overwatch 2, but it’s been a pretty dang good update (gameplay wise). I’d like to add that gaming in general is still good, but I am worried about the monetization of multiplayer games

Jeremy Craves

Smooth for a solo. Lebron shot that Commercial 100 times, probably.

I’m just going to say this overwatch 2 came out in a poorer state then halo infinite now I can’t compare the live service aspects yet but at lease halo infinite delivered a campaign at launch.

There are aspects I don’t like about 2022 like matty said but anyone that try’s to act like no games have released is crazy. Maybe a specific game you wanted didn’t release yet I can name 10 games that I have bought and enjoyed plus another 10 games on game pass that were surprise hits for me this year has been to much in my opinion I want devs to take more time to make their games perfect rather good or great although matty might not like that because he will never see a fallout game again if Bethesda had to make their games perfect.

Phil Walker

Appreciate the effort Matty! Hang in there on the interviews

Great job Matty!

Wyvborn

I can't disagree, but personally I play Overwatch for the multiplayer anyway and the changes they made in my opinion have been better for the game. Orisa and Reinhardt feel so good to play

Great job going solo! I’d say yes, gamers today have more choice than ever, and generally have access to all games from the past as well as new games. There’s a lot I don’t like about industry practices, but would I rather be in 2022 or back in 2012? The answer is obvious.

CustomAlex .

Great job Matty love the show. One thing though red dead redemption 2 is not on ps+ you said that a couple times at the beginning and it threw me because I have been waiting to play that game. Thanks have a good day
