That's Wild | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 222

As promised, publisher Electronic Arts has revealed its all-new, so-called 'hunting' game. It's called Wild Hearts, and it's coming by way of Koei Tecmo-owned developer Omega Force very soon: It hits PlayStation 5 in February. This is a fun move to analyze, an aggressive maneuver from EA that encroaches entirely on an unexpected rival's turf. Naturally, we delve-in. Plus: The totalitarian Saudi government is prepping to spend tens of billions of dollars to whitewash its horrific image (this time in gaming), The Last of Us on HBO is looking mighty fine (though Ellie has some people thrown-off), PlayStation Stars seems inoffensive and engaging (and dare we even say fun), and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is "dynamically-generated quests" the single worst term ever? What's our gut-check when it comes to Square Enix's weird release schedule? Are digital releases truly ephemeral, after all? Dare we even ask if you want to hear the tale of the listeners whose roommate showers completely in the dark? (You're going to, one way or another.) Colin did you buy your Backbone before the PlayStation edition or not, I'm wanting to take the plunge but buying the Xbox buttons as it's the only option on Android is turning me off until they come out with a PlayStation version for Android also

Cun

After a lifetime of friends and coworkers throwing out dirty puns and euphemisms related to my last name.. hearing Colin f**king Moriarty throw his hat into the ring was the definition of catharsis.

Slight correction as a golf nerd, Liv Golf are definitely getting top level players, Dustin Johnson & Cam Smith for example are probably 2 of the best in the world.

Guys in regard to Playstation allstars, some of these rewards are tied to buying digital games, so a digital buying user is gonna get better support from PlayStation?? Seems unfair on someone who buys mostly Physical games like myself and Dustin so are we to expect less support because of that!!

Colin, as we share similar video compilations, may I recommend ‘liars getting caught’ compilations. I think you’ll enjoy

Thank you for speaking up about the Saudi Arabia stuff. I try to do this also on my show, and we are also the only podcast in Poland who mentions problems with China and Saudi involvement in video games. Not that I expected anything else from LSM, but still - thanks :)

I also recently bought a copy of the game (used, so no money flows into CDPR 😅) and I'm planning to buy it, but it is not the game that is the problem for me. It is not the bugs, glitches, or troubles in game design implementation. For me, unacceptable is how CDPR acted DAYS before the release, when they already knew what the shape of the game was. Piort Sasko was hyping the game on Twitter. One C-level guy was sharing PC scores from reviews, thanking the critics. The media account was sending a countdown -10 days, with each day presented with gifs from the game to boost pre-orders. And how Iwinski acted after the release - trash. Someone flew to close to the sun and became too sure of themselves, to the point of becoming arrogant.

The cyberpunk situation is fascinating to me. As a fan of the game, I enjoy seeing so many people jump in and enjoy it and it’s so bizarre seeing some people still holding onto their anger from 2 years ago. The notion that they’re “getting away with” the launch is really strange considering that most of the problems have been fixed and we don’t give this same heat to other games like NMS. It’s also not like they haven’t been getting dragged through the mud by the entire internet since the launch. What do these people even want, jail time for a buggy game?

Lewis Templeton

This has got to be one of your best episodes, the first hour had so many laugh out loud moments. You guys have really nailed your chemistry. Also, please tell Dustin that he is too old to be drinking out of a coloured glass! (from a previous episode)

Can I just say I love the preamble before the show proper starts. The opening 40 mins of this episode had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. I know you already have a tonne on your plate but I do miss hearing Colin talking about nonsense. Love all the shows keep doing what you’re doing lads

So glad to hear you call out Danny O’Dwyer. In my teens I aspired to be involved in the industry so seeing him over at Gamespot made him somewhat of a role model to me. I was later even a Patreon supporter of his. However he showed his true colours as a bully when he lambasted me and had his followers dog pile on me, simply for pointing out that he was painting with a broad brush when he attacked the people commenting on a specific Twitter thread. Genuinely made me smile to hear you point out the kind of person he is. Acts like he’s a hero of the industry, a white knight but he’s far from it. There’s a reason this is my favourite podcast, you guys call things as they are 👍

I think people have every right to be skeptical about a game that was knowingly launched broken.

Nygile Oliver

I was moreso speaking about the folks who know they aren’t interested in the game being bothered or upset by the influx of people who are. Being skeptical is fair, but being angry that other people are enjoying something isn’t.

Germanos

Ooooops! I was just about to propose having Danny as a guest for SS+ and talk about gamedev documentaries. 😅 Given that all the industry is focused on, is highlighting when supposed grown-ups are surprised by how corporation's operate or what's the proportion between white and people of colour, I very much enjoy developers talking about what inspired a level or a character mechanic.
