It's time once again for Sacred Symbols x Defining Duke. We welcome Matty and Cog to the show with an agenda in mind: To dig through our most-anticipated games of October, November, and December, and 'map a path' through which titles we're planning on playing. Between the five of us, we discuss 18 separate products (17 games and a DLC pack), and guide you towards what we think are the most exciting of a thankfully busy period, one that leads into a seemingly-unimaginably hectic 2023 to come.

Really hoping you guys are talking Activision deal at some point, because I feel like the Dukes take a completely different stance compared to the Symbols crew, for obvious reasons. Would love to see that debate.

One of my favorite Crossovers Next to the Marvel Vs. Capcom Series

NotSkyWalker

These crossovers are so appreciated, especially for these relatively platform-agnostic conversations like "what're y'all hyped for during the rest of the year," The Game Awards, big showcases, and so on. Keep on keeping on. The idea of a whole Quarter overview was an inspired choice, love it.

Raul Hernandez

I always enjoy these crossover episodes.

Glad to see was just late. Off topic but has anyone else lost Discord access in the last 24 hours? I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting in Patreon. Logging in/out of Discord. Nothing works. Channel just doesn't show up...

These crossover episodes are choice

You're spoiling us! Much love ❤️

LogoJojo

Yes a crossover! I’m not an Xbox guy but the Dukes are so awesome at what they do! It’s a fantastic melding of the minds, every time.

Riley Brewer

I did! Just curious now about all this back and forth between Phil Spencer and Jim Ryan where they all stand. From my listening they have really different viewpoints on these business theatrics.

Colin, you're really gonna be the one to spoil the full cast Spoilercast on Plague Tale Requiem? Why do you say it's not for you? It's right up your alley. It's the Last of Us mixed with historical fiction. You'd love them and you could easily finish the first one before the second one.

Tonys_Always_Write

Oh okay, I see what you're saying. I think maybe they should just wait and do a postmortem after the deal goes through or less likely fails. It would be kind of cool to see them recap the road, and just how much both brands have changed since that announcement alone.

Brian

You guys got to be careful when you drop these out of no where, came up on my notifications and i almost drove off a bridge.

Stephen Forgione

Best analysis and commentary in games! Love these

Jordan Fugate

These are some of my favorite Sacred Symbol+ episodes. Love hearing you guys get together.

Integra76

There are some nifty games left for the rest of the year. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Pokemon Violet, Callisto Protocol and Crisis Core are day ones for me. Love the crossover episodes.

Based AND woke Matty talking up the Blue Blur and Frontiers - AND getting famous Sonic Hater Colin to appreciate Adventure, love to see it 😂, fair play to all involved, loved even the deep cuts with the comics and such, just need the movies and TV shows and we've got the package on a Sacred Symbols podcast which I never thought I'd hear 😂 Looking forward to Frontiers myself and it was my most hype game for the rest of the year until I saw the Ragnarok story trailer at the state of play, so now it's a very very close 2nd for me, but still!!

Mitchell Lundsberg

It sucks it feels so jammed the next three months. I can't help but feel one of these games will be great but fall victim to the scheduling. It would have been ideal to get Gotham knights or Evil West during the dry summer. Regardless, full steam ahead boys. I can't wait for the upcoming spoilercasts.

Declan McIntyre

I have never heard anyone say "hot up".

Russell Robinson

If we're mentioning Mario and Rabbids (which I'll be getting as well) I'm frothing at the mouth for Bayonetta 3. I've put more hours into 1 and 2 than I can count. I'm playing Soulstice for my character action fix but it's not potent enough. Been waiting YEARS for this game.

Jason Bolla

Remaking FFX would be a bigger money maker than IX? I was waiting for a rebuttal, but oh well. I beat X on PS2 once and have never looked back. I've played through IX probably about 15 times across platforms.

“I’d rather go my whole life unsatisfied than be satisfied by a Minions movie.” - Chris That’s wild. Arkham Knights just looks eh to me. I’m thinking maybe 7s, 8 at most. Col, I’m tired of you saying you’re tired of Marvel characters when you don’t even watch the content. Chris absolutely nails what’s wrong with COD nowadays and why I think the older entries are superior. Am I the only person that thinks Callisto isn’t worried about Dead Space at all? I mean you have a remake vs a new take FROM THE GUY THAT CREATED Dead Space. I don’t think the hardcore fans will drop the ball on this, delay or no delay.

I keep hearing Colin talk about the PlayStation tax and it seems super simple to me. Sony has rested on its laurels and has just beat the 3rd person story focused action game horse a bit too much. It seems many critics and enthusiasts that aren't PlayStation specific gamers just see uncharted, tlou, horizon, ghosts and GoW and see the same type of game. And while these games are of a pretty objective quality, I just don't think they bring enough new to the table to sway people to really fall in love with them. This is what I gather from listening to other critics and speaking with other game nerd friends at least.

Immediately bought I am setsuna , i forgot that existed....also because I'm a physical collector I picked up the Japanese ps4 version for 20 British pounds .

Mitchell Lundsberg

I think we just rely on Sony to keep pushing the needle further when it comes to better stories, better graphics, better gameplay for every game they release. Especially since Xbox hasn't released anything substantial and Nintendo is Nintendo. When Sony doesn't push the needle it feels like a miss in someways. It's like expecting the Yankees to be World Series Champs every year and hoping they have a better team each following year. Nonetheless it is very interesting topic.

Jewelbox

I agree but this does kind of ignore huge sources of "pushing the needle" in the modding, indie and AA space. This is where innovation lies a lot of the time, in lower stakes projects that are later incorporated into the bigger budget releases.

2023-05-27 07:17:33 Sonic has never really worked in 3D, movement wise. You’re mostly bumping into the wall & stopping your momentum. The 2D games will always be classics though.

I am with you and I think it comes down to EXPECTING innovation in AAA/big budget games while we are SURPRISED to find it elsewhere, especially if we are talking about the Playstation tax.

Edwin Garcia

Colin, how can you be a fan of Naughty Dog games but no interested on playing the new plagues tale game.

LastStandMedia

I'm not gonna play the sequel without the first, and I have no time to do that. Also, comparing that game to TLoU is a little bit of a stretch. I did play the first 30 minutes of the first one. It's really nothing like it at all.

You’re not alone Matty. Kingdom Battle was a real gem and still one of my favourite switch experiences. Sparks of Hope, here we come!!
