Have Xbox and PlayStation Revived The Console Wars? | Defining Duke Episode 90

With the continued back-and-forth, Xbox and Sony are truly reviving what we thought was a bygone time: The Console Wars! It's clear now that the modus operandi for PlayStation is to obstruct the Activision deal by any means necessary. This means even taking the public "egg in the face" as they continue to sink their public image. Xbox has shown the willingness to abide by the rules, but the real question is will this awaken a more cutthroat version of the current executives we see in place? Matty and Cog discuss! Furthermore, we have the remaining table scraps from Xbox's Tokyo Game Show interviews! Japan continues to be a weak spot as we all know, but Xbox is now making the commitment to bring original exclusives on the level of Lost Odyssey to fans. How long will it take and what form will it arrive? What relationships can be born from this initiative? There is much to parse through! Get some Defining Duke merch! if i remember this correctly, blizzard said that overwatch 2's new model of monetization would be cosmetic only, and new heroes unlocked through a grind of a battle pass is so very anti competitive and not what the game is about whatsoever. its highly disrespectful to the base. that model may work in other games like apex, but balance and team composition is so fundamentally key to overwatch. on the flip side, ow2 is meant to be leaning more towards individuals making their own plays to progress the objective. we will see what happens next month. but it could spell destruction for the game

Xbox has turned it into a clown show of sorts.

My yakuza story starts with Kiwami 2, then went to 0, off to Kiwami 1, off to 7LAD and now i'm halfway through Yakuza 3. 7 is easily my favorite, followed by 0, then K2, then K1. I dont want to add Y3 yet as I havent finished it, but I like it more then K1 as of this point. I respect your view on Yakuza 7 but disagree with it personally. Definitely disheartening to see you don't like it but it is what it is. Have a good one Matty!

I really feel like you guys dont understand what "deleting" Overwatch 1 means. Overwatch 2 is simply a major update. like a normal update they're reworking a bunch of characters like they have previously and adding a new game mode, the only significant change to the gameplay of Overwatch 1 is it's now 5v5 rather than 6v6. Over the years they have changed ranked and quickplay in major ways before and for those that liked those versions they added arcade mode or custom games so they could still play that way. as someone with over 1000 hours in Overwatch the game got stale long before they stopped supporting it regularly, the community has whined and complained at EVERY major update and there has never been a point where everyone was satisfied. My point is OW2 is just a major update, the current OW1 is nothing like how it was at launch and you technically aren't losing anything in this transition.

I feel you on this. Overwatch 1 now is a very different game now compared to how it was at launch

The yakuza conversation is goated to me as far DD episodes… loved it, the high level maturity and ability to dance around spoilers as well as dive deep into the contrast of appreciation and disgust between the 2 of you was incredible. I laughed so hard and learned so much. Keep up the greatness.

Overwatch 2 was at one point referred to as an expansion but now it looks a lot more like a relaunch, similar to Heroes of the Storm 2.0 relaunched to restructure the ranked content and monetization. I think if they were to keep older patches of Overwatch up and running it would really only split the playerbase to an extent that it ruins matchmaking for everyone.

Overwatch 2 is just an update for the original -- That's why they're getting rid of it. It's in a new engine, changes the gameplay a little, and that's it. Dota 2 did this with Source 2, and CSGO soon, but nobody talks about those because they didn't come with a new name.
