Assessing the Grand Theft Auto VI Leak | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 226

This past weekend, something unreal happened: A nefarious digital actor scraped and released a ton of material -- stolen directly from developer Rockstar -- showing an in-development Grand Theft Auto VI. Obviously, this is a very big deal. Indeed, this is one of the largest breaches a games company has ever experienced in the history of our industry, and it's one that has wide-ranging consequences for a host of different parties. In this impromptu episode of +, we sat down to discuss what happened, comb through many of your inquiries, and figure out where Rockstar and Take Two go from here. One thing's for certain, though: You definitely don't want to be that hacker right now.

I haven't read it yet, because it won't load. But I saw it making the rounds, and it makes sense.

Saw the leaks yesterday. The Protagonist is looking thicc as hell in the diner scene👌

I was worried based on some earlier rumours gta 6 would tone down the humor and script. However the little bit of dialogue shown in these leaked videos seems like classic rockstar. The new gameplay mechanics look great too I'm much more excited for gta 6 than I was before.

I think the source code and all the technical parts could be an interesting discussion with our technical specialist, good idea! :) Great episode, in depth and very well put!

Or even leak in general in the world of video games would make for a great discussion about the good, bad, consequences etc. Just throwing some ideas for fun :)

I actually had one of my YouTube Shorts taken down while talking about the leak. I had gameplay for GTA 5. I didn't fight it, the video wasn't performing well.

Good talk on these complex issues. I did not know next Bioshock will be set in Antarctica. I think I would have rather not known that until the actual reveal. I kinda agree with that question writer that leaks have taken away all the joy of any reveals. And imo it's not about what is leaked, it's just the sheer volume of leaks. Today it was leaked that next iteration of PS5 will have detachable disk drives. It's just too much many leaks. Any and every leak is just an eye roll to me now.

Ah it's all good Colin. After all it's just the setting. I'm really looking forward to it. I hope it's good.

I guarantee every person who complained about how the game looks will buy it day 1. Red Dead 2 is one of the best looking games of all time and even gta5 still look beautiful this game will no doubt look incredible on PS5. I'm excited to see all the neon lights at night time with HDR

I think Jason schreier and Jeff Grubb are two very different leakers. Jeff Grub I see as more of a hype machine. He kind of uses his mostly vague leaks to hype gamers up which I very much enjoy. Jason on the other hand is a poisonous weasel imo. He’s looking to take people down and cause a commotion much of the time and he’s also been totally wrong multiple times and damaged a studios reputation. I can’t stand that fucken guy and I’d be all for it if the gaming community got rid of him.

In response to what Colin said about being a critic and the relationship between game developers and journalists… I see too many afraid to ruin the chance or opportunity to enter the game developing space and others are replicating the same problematic behavior of trying to be buddy buddy for the sake of acceptance as peers over maintaining professional boundaries.
