Sony's procurement of its first-ever mobile studio isn't something to get excited about, and we're not even gonna pretend to try. However, the acquisition of Savage Game Studios does suggest a new strategy for PlayStation, one that seeks to protect its various flanks even if it's not yet necessarily begun to fight on said front. Mobile gaming is a good example: They've said they've wanted to do something, and they have, but they don't acknowledge or pay attention to anything that results. It's as if it's not very important, but clearly, that's all about to change. We discuss. Plus: Sony acquires 14% of FromSoftware, SNK says there's interest in both sides for a Capcom vs. SNK revival, Quantic Dream gets scooped up by a Chinese firm, Mafia IV is early in development, and more news, followed (as always) by listener inquiries. Should we embrace the term "I" and "Triple I" when it comes to indies? Is there such a thing as "too much accessibility" when it comes to gaming? Why are console-exclusive pre-order bonuses so darn persistent? Is Colin fearful of Dustin's growing podcasting power?

Fantastic show this week guys. I agree that Detroit was fantastic and certainly one of my top 5 games for the PS4. Do you think the Star Wars game is the main project for Quantic Dream? It’s years off so I would hope they are working on something after Detroit surely?

On the topic Dustin asked “who is playing mobile competitive multiplayer games?” I have an answer. People at work as well as kids. People play these games on their lunch breaks as well as when they are supposed to be working (as a manger I have caught my employees doing this). They are also played by kids on the school bus/ free periods/ as well as recess activities. Also younger kids take advantage of parents who don’t allow them to play violent video games take advantage of the mobile space to play these sort of games without the knowledge of there parents.

In my opinion, mobile gaming does not provide the experience that console and PC gaming do. If you want mindless repetition, there are games from both genres that fit the description. However , I do not believe any gaming done on a screen smaller than 7 inches is worth my time. Take care guys and I thank you for providing me with entertainment every week. I would like to congratulate Chris on finally learning to read. Cheers and best wishes.

In regards to ports for Savage Game Studios, Resogun would be a perfect fit for mobile gaming. It contains an addictive loop and is very easy to hop in and out of. House Marque being based in Finland is just a cherry on top for collaboration purposes.

Early part of this show was hilarious. Genuinely comes off as three friends who care about eachother. Colin says “fuck me”. So funny… great form guys!

One way to get around the whole "giving money to Tencent" situation as with Metal Slug would be to buy a used physical copy of the game no? I assume no money would go to Tencent. Might not be convenient or future proof in an increasingly digital world.

just a quick correction, FromSoftware retained the Sekiro IP

I have to say when it comes to playing mobile competitive games… working in non profit for years with youth, some kids don’t really care about the quality of something as long as there is hype and community around it. A lot of kids either can’t afford a console but can get a old phone second hand or they really love an IP to the point of wanting access all of the time.
