Brawling in Brazil | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 214

What was supposed to be a routine exchange between corporations and an economic regulatory body in Brazil has turned into the hottest news in gaming over the last week. That's because both Sony and Microsoft have launched soft salvos at each other, picking apart each other's strategies on the market and their intentions to squeeze the other guy out. Buried within both of their arguments are interesting tidbits, though, particularly in regard to how Xbox and PlayStation see both themselves and each other, and we couldn't help but delve in head-first to pick it all apart. Plus: Square Enix is either priming to sell or buy more studios (potentially both), Call of Duty's beta is inbound to Sony platforms in September, PS+'s new offerings are surprisingly solid, and more news. Then: Listener inquiries! Are we tempted to go-in on the Backbone One controller? Can a game be so good that it ruins every other game you play? Is keeping old hardware less important in an era of digital software and backwards compatibility? What lessons has Colin drawn from living to his advanced age? Check out our merch! When it comes to market dominance I think it’s important to keep in mind that there are different markets. Destiny may be a juggernaut but it’s player base is very western centric. George may be super popular in USA but ehh maybe not as popular in say Tokyo.

busy busy weekend, time to catch up on this

I don't want to see Colin criticize how people say things after hearing him say "deewee"

I think the Forspoken trailer got attention because it released not long after Thor Love and Thunder, which also got a lot of shit for that kind of dialogue. Maybe a stretch but there's often a domino effect on social media.

I have to say, the backbone is pretty damn dope fellas! I use it almost exclusively as a way to play smaller indie games or rpgs in bed. I was hoping Sony would just wholesale steal the idea and make one that was just DualShock 5 handles that would connect to your phone, but alas this is probably as good as it’s going to get for remote play on the PlayStation.

RE: The UI in Cyberpunk... I have two major gripes about it (and one middling gripe). One, why, why, WHY do I need to click so many frakin' buttons just to get back into the game?!?!? Click the Start Game icon in the console UI. Wait for the disclaimers. Wait for the title screen. Click "X." Wait for the next screen. Click "X" to continue game. Wait for the game to load. Click "X" to get into the game. I don't need the title screen. I don't need the screen after the game load. Just drop me straight to the "Continue/Start New Game" screen and then load up my game and get me started. Two - The GPS. I've never experienced a worse GPS in my life. I have literally been standing facing my objective and looked at the GPS and it is telling me to go 180 degrees in the opposite direction to get to my destination. And it's not isolated. It's constant. The middling gripe I have is the one Colin probably has. The UI for the Backpack/Inventory and Abilities are both non-intuitive and unnecessarily complicated. I did love the game, though. Even with those issues. Bonus gripe: If the player even dreams about thinking of walking within arms' length of barbed wire, it's going to apparently reach out and grab you, cause damage, and send you to the ground. :)

Also, ya boy Scotty ran into Michelle Branch at a guitar store in Chicago (she was doing a autograph signing at a local mall) about 20 years ago. I said “man, you’re everywhere…” she was not amused, but much like a bland pretzel, I was not….. a salt’ed…. so I consider it a win!

About The Forspoken trailer. I know it does not make it any better, but most of the world is NOT native english speaking. I can speak english, but for me, it does not seems weird or out of place at all. Feels kind of "cool" actually. Also, when I saw reactions including Chris´s meme, I did not get it. I know that this speaks more about my language skills, but I just think that most of the people from around the world, who saw it, do not take it as "cringey" or anything similar.

in reference to capitalization: i don't use caps because to be honest... it's kind of lame 🤷‍♂️ i could say something thought provoking like "capitalization is a construct" or some such, or that it's how the man keeps us underlings in check, but at the end of the day it's just more streamlined to type without having to hit shift on the keyboard every 8 words. in an effort to make everything copacetic i disabled capitalization on my phone as well, so my phone typing and my pc typing all match. at the end of the day, i doubt most people care, or probably don't even notice. it's just one small way of using less effort to type, so i can use more effort on things that matter. (akin to einstein and his closet of white shirts or whatever) 😃😃😃
