27 Questions With Colin | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 213

It's mailbag time! I (Colin) selected 27 inquiries from a recent thread on a variety of games-related topics, from defending myself on Xbox podcasts and the siren call of Metroidvanias to my perceived lack of respect for Team Asobi and Naughty Dog's seemingly-falling star within the first party family. Other subjects covered include '90s JRPGs, PlayStation's PC releases, Gravity Rush, the ergonomics of DualSense, retro gaming on CRTs, the potential return of Resistance, Horizon 3's predicted release date, and much more. Enjoy!

Appreciate the answer, I definitely can’t argue the Suikoden games are possibly too big for a collection, though 1 and 2 could be. It’s a sad case of them being locked away on the PS3 store, if only Sony had been more forward thinking there.

Colin’s thoughts on physical games don’t extend outside of his American way of thinking, and I say that as an American. There are many countries and markets that don’t have good enough internet that Sony can’t justify selling to if they won’t make a console that allows physical media. Although Australia is a relatively small market compared to the states, that entire market is wiped out if you don’t have physical media, because the internet is so shitty it takes multiple days to download a 50gb game, and there’s no way streaming will ever become prevalent there.

Jeremy Seal

Exactly. Even most parts of the U.S. have shitty internet. This was my argument against the original Xbox One policies.

My mom and stepdad live a few miles outside of the capital of Kansas and can’t get anything other than satellite internet.

Regarding the sore hands after playing with the dualsense, I had the exact same issues at launch. My hands kept getting sore pretty quickly when playing Demons Souls, especially with all the haptics and vibration. The strange thing is that I would have relatively big hands, so you would think the bigger controller would suit me better. As an adult I had only really played the PlayStation consoles, so I guess I was just so used to the dualshock. In my case at least it just took a little time, once January 2021 came around my hands had fully adapted to the feel of the dualsense and it's now my favorite controller yet, and the dualshock now feels like a little toy in my hands when I pick it up.

The DualSense does feel a bit big to me too. Doesn't hurt my hands or cause any huge issues but for me the Dualshock 4 was the sweet spot, I love that controller. I recently plugged in my PS3 to play an older game and that controller now feels tiny and lightweight in comparison.

Are the parts your hands are in contact with actually any larger on the DualSense? I'm looking at them side by side right now and the only size different seems to be the middle area of the controllers and maybe the tips of the protrusions are longer, but not on the part you actually hold. Also the back doesn't dip in as much on the DS5 because of the internals of the triggers.

We're always told America's internet is bad, but now this is an American way of thinking? We're beaten over the head with how horrible our infrastructure is.

As a primarily Xbox guy I listen to lots of Xbox podcasts such as Rand Al Thore, Jez and Colt Eastwood. I’ve never heard any of them mention Colin at all unless if a fan asked a question on the super chat and even when they disagree I’ve never heard them say anything bad about Colin. Maybe there’s more fringe guys I’m not aware of. The people that said the worst shit I’ve heard about Colin are unfortunately the crazy’s in the San Fran bubble. Anyway, Eyuden Chronicle Rising is actually a great little JRPG. Very basic game with fun combat, lots of retreading old ground with light metroidvania and town builder mechanics. I played it at launch on Gamepass and got 1000 achievements in like 13 or 14 hours. I’d recommend it for a short and easy JRPG.

Colin the amount of content you guys have put out is awesome! Was working over the weekend and only now on my day off, I find I have three to catch up on :) Thanks for the awesome content as always! Bring back Resistance, anyone who hasn't played it should definitely take Colin's advice and play it. What a freaking amazing franchise!! I'm waiting on a release for Super Perils of Baking been a Physical games gamer

On right to repair towards the end of the show, the discussion is about companies that intentionally design their products so that pieces cannot be replaced by the end user, and also talking to suppliers to make custom parts that are essentially identical to the generic ones, but have one tiny difference are locked down and can't be purchased by repair shops. They want access to the tools the manufacturer uses to pair parts with the console, and access to the parts so that devices don't just become ewaste because of a 10 cent chip that was blown. What you're talking about as far as if they damage the console while attempting to repair it breaking the warranty is already a part of the law, and isn't what people are trying to work on.

I also never quite finished Gravity Rush on Vita at the time it released for some of the same reasons, the motion controlling was interesting at the beginning but became more of a hindrance to the way I wanted to play. I got the platinum on PS4 though, it's a far better experience there and you get to control the game as you'd want to, with the sticks and some optional gyro controller. I got to naturally take a break between the two since I played each version at launch, maybe you'll get the bug to revisit the series in the future with some time away and if you do I highly recommend the PS4 version. 👍
