Is Ubisoft The Next Target For Xbox? | Defining Duke Episode 82

News has begun to roll out of Ubisoft that shows them sprinting in multiple different directions at once. From the platform based live service Assassin's Creed game to a tighter and less expansive entry in the series all the way to a heaping four games cancelled, a lot is happening for them and not much of it sounds good. As we have historically seen, Xbox can sweep in when these companies are going through the worst of times. With Lord Acquisition at my (Matty) side, I wanted to tackle the subject of if this is a fit. Otherwise, EA continues their somewhat staggering turnaround as they are producing a single player Black Panther game which may beg the question; is there a more impactful game to a company then Jedi Fallen Order? It's tough to imagine what, but it's success has allowed the winds of change to blow through EA. Beyond that, we have more crocs shenanigans and Halo Infinite gets beat up for the millionth time. “Babe wake up, DD episode 82 just dropped”

Daniel Lee Tucker

Yo, I completely understand crying out of pain for back/spine issues, it almost feels like a curse because it's so painful/disabling all of the sudden. Turns out I had a herniated disc with a big fat leak, and I'm scheduling to go into surgery next month. Hope both of you stay limber and strong, take care!

Mason M

It’s funny how the last four episodes of DD and DDU are about acquisitions or partnership as the main story, says a lot about Xbox

Jamie Anderson

Theres a difference with selling 20 mill and 20mill playing through game pass. Forza is not high impact because nobody talk about it like a GoW.. Hot wheels dlc and its dead silence

Michael Rogers

Final Fantasy 7 is a remake. Resident Evil 2 is a remake. The Last of Us is not only not a remake, but it's an unwanted remaster of an already remastered game. Between watered down "remakes" and Game Pass, I feel like gaming is falling off a cliff. You may love Game Pass now, but when people no longer buy games, what's the incentive to make a big budget experiment like Starfield? Great episode as always. I don't even have an Xbox and I'm here for it. Take care gents.

Honestly i havent watched the last few episodes just because its only either talking about what xbox isnt doing right or its talking about who they should buy. I get there isnt a lot to talk about but its getting so old IMO. Im sure there are others who love it though just putting it out there.

Phil Walker

To be fair, that was a tiny part of the Episode. Its just the headline.

Joshua

No hate but there's lots of big leaps based on assumptions here. For example forza horizon sold tons even though it launched on gamepass. There's no reason to assume people will never want to buy games just because their offered in subscription form. Having multiple options of payment is purely a good thing for the consumer in my eyes. And If they stop making Bethesda style Bethesda games then Bethesda fans will stop subscribing, it's pretty simple really.

Joshua

Doesn't say anything at all about Xbox imo. Says far more about the state of eye catching gaming news for Podcasters to use if anything.

Mason M

There are games beyond the ones you mentioned, a lot more games that are very unique and innovative. Your thoughts are focusing too much on these few games to spell doom for gaming

Joshua

Horizon sold millions of copies and is very popular and talked about outside of "hardcore" gaming circles.

Tbf to Forza Horizon 5, it is one of the very few games I heard my extended family talk about in the last couple of years (others were Elden Ring and Warzone). I think among casuals it is a huge deal. (I personally never played it.)

Saying The Last of Us was already remastered is a bit unfair. It was a cross-gen game, and the next-gen version just came out a year later. That happens with games sometimes, Cyberpunk being a good recent example.

Shane Geis

This is true they bashed Halo again and read a earnings report completely out of context blaming starfield and Redfall delays for lower % when actually gamepass numbers went up and it’s all based of last years insane year

Drew Sleezer

My theory is that Capcom and Square Enix have made the standards for Remakes so high, that it’s very hard for anything less than AAA studios to even compete. Embracer’s remakes have been so low budget (but totally fine) like Destroy all Humans and SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom

Walker Simmons

Some topics are starting to get pretty repetitive

I’ve got to agree. Everything is about what Xbox can acquire and what Sony is doing wrong. Two leading stories are Sony focused. It is DRY out there.

Cog! I'm a PlayStation guy, but you can't really compare Power wash SIM to high level games, the only reason power wash is getting any coverage is because it's a really quiet and bad year for Xbox. Although I completely agree with you on Ubisoft not been no where near what they once were. I am screaming for a Splinter cell though!! My fear is Ubisoft will fuck it up big time

NeO JD

@Trevor ‘Cept Remastered was literally in the title. Part 1 to me is like a remaster of a remaster. The little bells and whistles aren’t enough to justify it to me. As for Cyberpunk, I played that on PS5 and it already looked next-gen to me. Don’t know what the actual next-Gen version would help with besides maybe better frame rate. I didn’t have many issues with it at launch, maybe I was lucky. 😄

My wife has Crocs, I don't know what she sees in them. I guess though they're pretty good for boating and fishing though. You can wade out into the water without taking them off and they stay on pretty well, and don't retain water when you get out.
