Square Dancing | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 209

It's a relatively slow week in the world of PlayStation, but there are still matters to discuss. Yes: We're all curious about when God of War: Ragnarok's release date will be revealed, and we have some things to say about this strange new line of Sony electronics under the INZONE brand. But really, we'd rather get into the weeds with smaller stories and lots of listener inquiries. Topics range from Horizon's TV debut and the potential of Persona live-action media to the return of Star Ocean and Final Fantasy XVI's British-style English. Speaking of Final Fantasy XVI, we also get into just what's happening with Square Enix and its relationship with PlayStation. Is Sony courting the publisher, particularly with so much money heaped at it for timed exclusivity and marketing? Plus: Do we care about speedruns? Are live service games ruining our gaming cadences? Should Sony have allowed its studios to speak out on Roe vs. Wade? All of that and more on the other side of the play button. Follow the hosts on Twitter! Maybe I'm in the minority. But I'm tired of having a pow wow every time people get nasty messages on the internet. These people are obviously the minority. They either don't care about Cory's message or they feed off it. Maybe we should just not acknowledge them anymore? Someone online said something really shitty to me? Also this just in, water is wet. Welcome to the internet.

Quick correction: Code Veronica IS on PS4.

Colin often says he can't wrap his mind around digital scarcity for NFT. Here's an example, Insomniac release a black Spider-Man suit, announce it's a limited run, unlockable with codes that they will give to 100 random persons. Now imagine the price that one of these codes would sell for if the winners decided to put them on the market. So now let's pretend Sony has a structure implemented to let you resell your skin to someone after they've unlocked it, don't you think people would be interested in one? Sure for you it may not be worth anything, but a lot of people would pay crazy amount for a skin. Just look up the old school MK skins code back in the day that would be selling for high prices.

Argentina a developing country, I laughed a little. If there is one group of people in the entire world who would get offended by a comment like that...

Hi, just a little comment to say that in this episode I just learned americans call "irish goodbye" to the same thing in Spain is called "french goodbye (irse a la francesa)". I now wonder how the call it in Ireland.

Hey Colin, I live in the Bay Area (I know how to correctly pronounce Silicon Valley). I moved out here from my beloved Virginia a few years ago for a job with a big tech company (I’ll let u guess which one & yes I admit that makes me part of the problem). I’ve heard you discuss the top end of your salary at ign & I’m honestly baffled at how you lived in SF with that level of compensation. I make quite a bit more than that & I would never move to SF solely due to the cost of living (I live in downtown San Jose). My question is: how did you swing it? Hella roommates? Studio apartment with no ac? I love that city so much but rent is ludicrous there. Was it not this bad when you were here? Btw lmk if you’re ever visiting I’ll smoke u out 4 sureeeeee

I lived in the Sunset for most of the time, at 25th and Lincoln. I had a three bedroom for $3,000; it was actually quite nice, all things considered. I had between 2-4 other people living there the entire time, starting with me and Scott Bromley, then Greg and I, then Greg, Mike Mitchell, and I, then Greg, Mike Mitchell, Cheryl, Steimer, and I, then back to Greg and I. LOL.

Probably not, but a way to sell thing back would be cool and empowering to the player.

For the love of Chris, Tillamook is in Tillamook, Oregon, not Sacramento!

It's a widely known thing in Hispanic countries, Argentinians feel superior than everybody else. There's like a million jokes about that.

Loved the video game collecting talk. I am a collector and have a pretty substantial collection. I actually use the site Dustin was referring to when cataloging my stuff. I picked up a near mint copy of Final Fantasy II and III for SNES that I had to pay a pretty penny for at a Zia of all places. Some guy dropped off his small jrpg SNES collection and I got lucky. Also ran into a fake copy of Chrono Trigger out in the wild about a week ago. I usually take my kit when looking for carts to crack them open before buying. It's a fun interesting hobby for sure.
