This is a week tailor-made for Final Fantasy fans, particularly on the back of Final Fantasy XVI's re-reveal. That's because... well... wait! There's more! During a brief live stream celebrating Final Fantasy VII's 25th anniversary, publisher-slash-developer Square Enix made two big announcements: The 2007 PSP Final Fantasy VII prequel Crisis Core is coming to PS4 and PS5, and the second part of the now-confirmed-three part Final Fantasy VII Remake launches the following winter, only on PlayStation 5. Thus, we have much to digest in the land of role-playing. This jam-packed episode has much more to work over, too, including the leak of an in-production, high-end Elite-style controller for PS5, the long-in-coming confirmation of Dragon's Dogma 2, reliable information concerning God of War: Ragnarok's release month, the arrival of Persona 3 and 4 on PS4, and so on and so forth. Then: Listener inquiries. What game dev jobs would Chris and Dustin want to undertake? Is the audience being too hard on The Last of Us: Part I? Could the incoming economic recession have a negative effect on the games industry? Will Dustin bend the knee and finally kiss Jim Ryan's ring?

Dustin, the leaker’s “im high on life right now” tweet is actually another leak to the game “High on Life” - the talking guns that sounded like Rick and Morty.

There's 4 seasons of Castlevania. Awesome show!

Shadow of the colossus is the only game I can think of that was remastered and then remade in two consequent generations. And it also lost value in the ps4 generation because it didn't include ico, but the ps4 remake cost $40, not $60, so I think the last of us part 1 is overpriced

In regards to what Dustin said about The Last of Us Part 1 remake seemingly being the same package we got before but just with better graphics. Pretty sure Neil said the game will have reworked AI and combat etc so it will play a lot more like Part 2, and of course will feature 3D audio and Dualsense support. I know these aren't huge changes but it's definitely more than just an increase in graphics.

Dustin makes a great point about the $70 Sony price tag. Another thing that bothers me when people complain about Sony is what Nintendo does. Nintendo will port over an old game and almost never add or improve anything but will charge full price. When they've done remasters, like pokemon diamond and pearl, they end up making it worse in many aspects and still charge $50 for it. Seems like Sony gets a lot more hate for doing this compared to Nintendo.

I think Dustin and Chris are understating a couple points about TLOU Part 1. The combat will be overhauled as well to play and feel more like the TLOU2, and a lot of the comparison shots were using pre-rendered footage in the original versus in-game footage in the remake. The in-game comparisons are much more noticeable in my opinion. For someone as gameplay focused as Chris, I’m surprised he didn’t mention anything about the first point at least!

Crisis Core was my first FF game and one of the games I got with my PSP, the other being Secret Agent Clank. Watching that trailer brought back so many memories, my favourite cutscene was the Angeal vs Sepiroth vs Genesis fight, loved it so much I made a save file right before that cutscene so that I could rewatch it. And that ending, oh that ending, broke my 14 year old heart to play through that entire sequence. Won't spoil it for those who haven't experienced it. Btw that Patreon question suggesting that first parties make smaller games for PS Plus Premium is a great idea in addition to what they're currently doing with offerings like Stray. Gives more value and makes the service stand out more. They could even develop smaller remakes for Premium like a MediEvil 2 or Ape Escape remake.

Sam Lee

Exactly! Prime example being Skyward Sword HD. I'd never played Skyward Sword and l was looking forward to it but once I saw that price I noped out. Funny thing is Nintendo did it right with Super Mario 3D World(ok yeah not really an apples to apples comparison) on the Switch by bundling it with Bowser's Fury.

Brannon H

Yeah 3D world is one of the few. I'm fine if they're not gonna put effort into most of them but they're always at least $50 and they never go on sale. It's frustrating.

Chris Adams

Dustin, the word is surely. Not shorely.(2:56:26)(2:57:11) Good show otherwise. Long live the jagwire!

Leo Chan

Man returnal on PC would be amazing, so intrigued by that game but not currently a PS5 owner.

Another chapter in the saga of Chris. He’s never watched any amazing underdog stories because he doesn’t like sports. Remember The Titans, Million Dollar Baby, Trouble With The Curve, The Fighter, Concussion, etc. Some true stories, all masterworks. Lost on some for the most contrary of reasons. An important piece of someone is missing until they witness this specific type of perseverance.
