There's no doubt that I (Colin) like to talk about eFootball where I can. Not only do I feel like it's important for us to discuss everything on PlayStation at least a lil bit; I'm actually intrigued by Konami's free-to-play soccer game for another reason: I truly believe it's the canary in the coalmine of what's to come for the sports genre. We won't be paying for full-priced, annualized sports games forever, and this may be the domino that pushes the next. To discuss eFootball -- the history of Pro Evolution Soccer and Winning Eleven, its dominant past, and its fall to a distant second place during its abandonment of retail -- I've invited Cristian Moreno on the show. Cristian hails from futbol-loving Ecuador, and he's in the Top 1% of global, ranked eFootball players in existence. So you know he has some serious bonafides to add to Sacred Symbols+. I was glad to welcome him, and I hope you enjoy our conversation.

Damn, this guy can talk! You can tell he's passionate about it though. Good stuff.

Love the deep conversation of F2P sports games vs paid sports games. He speaks so highly of the feel and bones of EFootball BUT the paid + games as service model has advantages to sustained daily support. My dream would be for NCAA football to come back as a F2P title with mobile tie ins but I know better, it'll be a Madden clone 🙃

I love how you try to tap into things you aren't fully in the know about Colin. Your search for wisdom helps yourself and listeners like me.

Love the sports games discussion. I know the majority of the industry doesn’t really care about the genre so it’s definitely appreciated. It would be great for you guys to have a similar discussion about EA’s Madden, as they’ve lost part of the NFL exclusivity they’ve had for a looong time. Sports games are what introduced me to this great medium, and I really hope they get shaken up soon.

Great ep. I've been a life long FIFA fan, the only PES I played much was 6, which was the only year I remember my mates all going with it over FIFA 06. Good work Colin and Christian.

Great episode! American here who has played and followed football (soccer) my whole life, so this was a nice discussion to listen to. Good shit!

There's an entire electronic version of the Premier League played on FIFA these days with the FAs approval. That's some pretty big crossover between sports and gaming right there.

About the PS5 availability in Brazil, it comes and goes, I have mine for almost a year, it costs about US$ 900,00.

I was kinda expecting to hear how much this guy spent on this F2P PES game so far :) or how he feels about the lack of content, maybe if he is in contact with KONAMI, how he thinks they will be releasing cards for years in the same game, with some "resetting" the stats? because it is possible that everyone will have 100-rated Messi at some point?
