It's no secret that the Sacred Symbols Trinity -- Colin (me!), Chris, and Dustin -- aren't racing fans. And usually, that doesn't present much of an issue on our show. But once every five years or so, it does! Gran Turismo is one of PlayStation's best-selling and most-important franchises, and covering it is important. So -- as I did a few months ago -- I invited the very likable GT YouTuber Z28Gaming to Sacred+ to discuss Gran Turismo 7. Last time he was on, we went deep into his (and the community's) expectations and hopes, but now we can talk about the results, the good and the bad... (but mostly the great). We live to serve, Sacred listeners, and GT7 shouldn't (and won't!) be ignored. Not here!

Can’t sell vehicles in the game kinda bugs me…

Love this discussion. I decided to get pickup GT7 having NEVER played a GT game or a racing sim before. I've stuck with strictly single player content and as someone who predominantly plays JRPGs, I'm shocked at how much I like this game. So far GT7 is my game of the year and I can't believe I'm saying that.

I’m with Z28 on the things I would like to see improved. Primarily improvements for the online play for competitive players. The main reason I’m playing is for the competitive races in group 3, group 4, etc race cars and I think that’s where the real Gran Turismo experience lies. Also on the Monaco note, a version of the early 2000s Monaco F1 track layout was featured in every Gran Turismo from 3-6. Sport was the first title not to include it. It was for whatever reason had it’s geographic location mislabeled as France and was called “Côte d’Azur” in the games it appeared in. GT7 I believe will be the best supported GT for a very long time. Original track staples like Grand Valley and Apricot Hill, as well as real world circuits like Sebring, Silverstone, and more will make an appearance. What I REALLY want them to bring back were the city circuits; many of which haven’t been seen since the PS1!!! Seattle, New York, Hong Kong, etc.

As someone who’s played from the original GT, I find these 2 episodes extremely informative and really spot on as far as taking about relevant info to the series currently, the future, and also comparing them to other racing sims available. I’m not quite into those other sims, but I have friends who are and have the racing wheel setups and this info makes me want to consider getting one even more really, although I’m just as comfortable continuing with just GT and using a controller. I think Colin did an excellent job as always with questions, even though the topic is completely foreign. Keep these occasional GT ones coming!

Z28 brought up a great point in regards to my question, where some players like myself want a large selection of cars to jump in and out of in a playground-like environment. Although Colin also brought up a great point about being patient as I’m sure they will add more cars to the game as time passes. Although these are good points, I do still find myself underwhelmed with the current selection of cars given that other games (FH5) offered more at launch and didn’t expect you to pull out your wallet if you want to use them all. Nonetheless I’ll be hopping in and out of GT7 for months to come as it’s one of those games you can forget about then jump back into at any time. Great conversation and great guest!

I played Forza Horizon earlier this year and I think it’s well suited to the collectathon, “gameified” experience. It’s excellent and it always keeps you doing something, exploring the world, collecting new cars, etc. PlayStation may do well with an exclusive offering that goes toe-to-toe with that experience. It wouldn’t be from Polyphony, but I think a new studio working on something like that is wise. Grab Turismo 7 is the opposite of that experience and what I actually prefer. If the game only had the group 4, 3, 2 and 1 race cars and was just a competitive focused racing game, it would still be exactly what I want out of it. It really is a continuation of GT Sport in that sense with those types of cars and competitive play being the focus. Everything else in GT7 is somewhat ancillary. I’d rather Sony introduce a new arcadey racing IP as a complement to the lineup than dilute what Gran Turismo is now.

Absolutely loved this episode! I was really excited learning about Z28 Gaming on the 1st SS+ about GT7 and couldn’t wait to hear more from him. Really hope to see more from him on LSM thanks Colin!

I feel like part of the fun is getting things over time. I'm not sure why people wouldn't want it that way, but to each his own.

Jay’s comment about single player people loving this game is spot on with me. This is my podcast/twitch game. I’ve never played a GT before and play this on an easier CPU difficulty but with minimal assists for myself. I’m about at 50 hours played, so the purchase is already worth it, and love racing around as I listen to shows like this or catch a stream. Great episode!

That was a good interview. Thank you for bringin up PSVR in the end. I was dissappointed to hear Jay had those issues in VR. Racing in VR with a full racing seat, a rumble butkicker and a fan blowing on me was some of the most immersive racing ever. I know the fogging and motion sickness are and issue for some people but personally none of that happens with me in VR. I've had 7 hours sessions in VR and was perfectly fine. There are several VR players that never run into these issues but I never seen any of these people interviewed on general gaming media channels.

I tend to disagree about the inclusion of Monaco. Côte D’Azure has been in almost every Gran Turismo game. Red Bull Ring, Brazil, Barcelona etc are all F1 tracks…perhaps his history with the series as a whole isn’t as extensive.

I definitely misunderstood…awesome content as usual :)
