Backwards Compatibility and PlayStation 5 Pro and PSVR2, Oh-My! | Sacred Symbols+ Episode 178

It's been a while (perhaps too long) since we've had tech YouTuber and podcaster Tom on the show. You may know him from his YouTube channel Moore's Law Is Dead and his podcast Broken Silicon, or you may have seen or heard him on a previous episode of +. As usual, I (Colin) pick his brain about all things PlayStation tech. We split our chat into three silos: First, a deep-dive into PlayStation Plus' upcoming revision, with an eye towards apparent difficulties surrounding PS3 and Vita emulation; then we revisit PSVR2, which many are talking about post-GDC in the most glowing of terms; and finally, we end on PlayStation 5 itself and its future possibilities, both in the form of a redesigned "slim" console and a buffed-out "Pro" iteration. One thing is for certain: Exciting (and interesting) times are ahead.

I’m completely in the same place on subscriptions. I’m time poor, not money poor. I’m not wealthy by any stretch, but I can afford as many games as I have the time to play. The more free games in a subscriptions service, the less likely I am to subscribe. Give me great games, and I will buy them!

Love these episodes. Tom is always really interesting to listen to.

This was such an engaging conversation. One of my favorite + episodes in a while. I'm going to be looking into Tom's podcast as well!

Sony can’t keep ignoring millions of people that want PS3 emulation, while also not telling us that it’s hard or complicated to do. Too many games stranded with no hopes of getting ported.

I think I'll exploit the Ps now thing atm where it's £50 for the year while it lasts but if PlayStation are gonna do this with back support they need to go all out. I.e trophies, FPS boost etc

Very eye opening explanation from Tom re PS3 back compat. Great insight as per usual.

So I don't know where the hell I was the last time Tom was on the cast, but this was my first exposure to his stuff. Crazy intelligent and listening to him and Colin go back and forth was amazing. Absolutely something special. Broken Silicon has a new patron in me and CLS continues to prove why they produce the best content in the space... & It's not even close.

Great episode. Tom is fantastic, just downloaded Broken Silicon for this week. Love LSM compensating the reoccurring guests for giving up their time

Hello Keepers of the Sacred Symbols. I hope you all are well. Please, for me as well as every other GT7 user that must have noticed this. When speaking with Z28, bring up the fact that as well documented, the roulette prize was absolutely predetermined to give the lowest prize +90% of the time. After the letter from Kaz I got a good mix of prizes the next 8 spins. Sweet right? Now, since the 4/7/22 update they changed the roulette spin to make it so that the prizes spin as the prize highlighter spins the other direction and I got 7 out of 7 lowest possible prizes. I believe they changed the animation simply to make it harder to tell that it is definitely going to land on the lowest prize. This is insulting to the deepest degree. GT7 is an amazing title, way down deep beneath the low opinion it’s creators and marketers have of the fans that made it what it has become.

I love when Tom comes on the show. I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing a “slim” version before the “pro” only for the fact that I can have something that doesn’t take up my entire entertainment center xD
