When it comes to HBO's mega-hit Game of Thrones -- arguably the single most famous offering in the four decade-long history of cable television -- there's so much to say. Like, tons. Infinite amounts, even. So, we've decided to tackle Game of Thrones here on KnockBack with an episode dedicated to each season, in an attempt to do some justice to something so grand. The first 10 episodes set George RR Martin's epic story (derived from his novel series A Song of Fire and Ice) into motion. We meet the Lannisters, Starks, and others who are all vying for a single throne, would-be rulers of great kingdoms steeped in history, tradition, and conflict. Game of Thrones is considered one of the best television shows ever for a reason: Because it really, truly is. It's a show that embodies the notion of "exceptional." And we're happy to celebrate it with a robust chat about the characters, settings, and story arcs that make season one hum.

Reading the books after the show was complete, made me realize just how bad seasons 6 to 8 were

Great episode brother. In regards to the incest stuff the book goes into more detail in the cersei chapters but it’s pretty much how you framed it where there is no one good enough besides a Lannister, and the fact that they are twins. There’s a lot more to it, but I haven’t read the books in a long time. She also justifies it because the Targeryans had a long lineage of incests when they conquered Westeros for similar reasons to her own.

Will be fun to listen to this! I watched season 1 well after the release and loved it so I read all the books and continued to watch more seasons. Books started great and somewhere around the 4th book I didn’t like it near as much. I hated “A Dance With Dragons” so much that I quit watching the TV show too…. I will never read another Martin book and I am always reading fantasy. But the discussion around this series is infinitely fascinating and I enjoy hearing about it. Will be curious to see how Knockback compares to Binge Mode for how you cover it. Looking forward to it and thanks for the great show as always!

I just listened to all of this at work and I feel like you guys barely scratched the surface. A true testament to how dense the world of westeros and game of thrones is, I could have listened to another 2.5 hours of this episode. I am excited for the rest of your coverage. Here is a fun question: What do you think Dennis Reynolds (It's always sunny) would think of the sex scenes? not erotic enough? lol

Ryan Zimm

I truly can't understand why any adult would have a problem with sex or nudity...so I am curious where you guys came down on the big scene with Dany and her new babies. If any nudity is absolutely artistically needed for a scene to work, it is that one. (Honestly, I think all her season 1 scenes are important characterwise).

Yeah, it's as we said: It's hard to even know where to begin or what to discuss. But I think we did well.

LastStandMedia

Many 'adults' have a problem with it being used in vulgar and gratuitous ways, including me!

Perfect timing, just got done with season 4, thanks boys!

I would definitely recommend reading the books. There is a bunch of small details that the show is missing. Plus some very different story lines near the end of the series.

Season 8 inspired me to read the books to get the truth of the series, and it was a year obsession. The books are great! And really not as dense as you'd think. Reading a chapter or two a day when I could, my wife and zi flew through the books. Just prepare yourself for heartbreak once you finish and you realize winds of winter ain't coming

An episode by episode show of Mad Men would be awesome with Colin and Dagan.

I hope the final two books are release after a

Not finished with the episode yet, but I had to comment and say FUCK Sansa, FUCK Joffrey, and in case I forgot FFFFFFFFUCK Joffrey. Okay back to the episode. (fuck Joffrey, I feel sorry for that actor because he did a phenomenal job...fuck that piece of trash lol)

Great wrap up here. Dagan made a point I haven’t thought about in a while where very few shows have such memorable characters and the ensemble they pulled off here, even in S1 is remarkable.
