Xbox & Ubisoft's Game Pass Partnership + GoldenEye 007 Xbox Leaks | Defining Duke Episode 53

Xbox has hit the ground running in 2022 with a variety of announcements, news, and leaks. For starters, Ubisoft and Xbox have finally teamed up for a day one drop on Xbox Game Pass. The game? The $40 spin-off 'Rainbow Six: Extraction' or as the Dukes like to call it: Rainbow Six: Experiment. Indeed, it looks as if the seeds are being planted for more deals in the future for the two companies. Otherwise, a classic overdue for both a remaster and return is GoldenEye 007. In 2008, Xbox nearly succeeded in their attempt to revive the game, but it came to nothing due to legal complications. Again, the remaster has leaked, but this one is different. Furthermore, a new piece by Jason Schreier has arrived discussing Ken Levine and his status as an "auteur" in video games. The Duke have many thoughts to share on this that are too large to be simplified. That goes for the rest of the news in a week where Playground Games studio head made his exit, Undead Labs opened up a new studio, and much, much more. This is only the beginning! Let's ride. Early access to new episodes will go live every Thursday ad-free at 12:00 PM EST at http://www.Patreon.com/LastStandMedia . Episodes will be available publicly three days after. Now this is a thumbnail!

Honestly think Cog is onto something with a Shang-Chi video game, especially if Simu would lend his likeness or voice to an XGS or 3rd party studio for a reasonable price. Marvel Studios has big plans for the character, so he will remain relevant in upcoming years. I feel similarly about other MCU characters soon-to-get substantial cinematic introductions (or re-introductions): Fervor for the likes of Daredevil, Moon Knight, Blade, Fantastic 4, Ghostrider etc. all could be candidates to be capitalized upon with competent video game realizations

My man Cog has me hyped about this Demeo game!! Thanks for the shoutout, never heard of it before and it looks incredible!

Did anyone else think Matty was The Rock for a moment in the thumbnail?!?! haha

Crocs are a hideous abomination

Why are you guys obsessed with having Microsoft buy literally everyone. Why are you trying to wall other players out? Its such a weird thing to be pushing like every episode

Unfortunately the Ubisoft deal doesn't excite me I hate modern day Ubisoft I really only care about the recently announced Splinter Cell but who knows how that will turn out

Not sure I'm following. Have watched almost all of the DD episodes and when it comes to acquisition talk, I never hear them openly WANT Microsoft to acquire businesses?

NotSkyWalker

Also not following, having just finished the episode I don't recall them significantly hyping up any potential purchases this episode. Iarry I think a point, which does frequently get brought up, is that Xbox/Microsoft have explicitly stated they ARE going to buy more studios. Regardless of our personal desires, it has been explicitly stated it IS happening... so that lends itself to speculation, of course! Sony keeps locking down 3rd party exclusives like KOTOR and FF... so you can hardly blame Xbox for wanting to take some of those players off the table from them. TBH, I'm not one for industry consolidation...buuuut I'd rather see Xbox/Sony/Nintendo scoop up studios over the likes of Tencent or Embracer Group... but that's just a personal preference I guess. Case and Point: IO Interactive. I think if one of the big three doesn't purchase them in the next 5 years, Embracer or tencent will make an offer so huge and egregious that they can't refuse...

I think it likely stems from the conversation around Tencent's investment into Remedy. Agree with Not Skywalker's comments above, though. I'd rather Sony or Xbox buy studios vs. Tencent or even Embracer Group. Embracer Group has made it very clear; while they are giving freedom to the studios, their goal is to make as many games as possible as cost effectively as possible. While Microsoft is looking to enable and empower studios to make the highest quality games that they want to make.

The Ubisoft+ to Xbox is not super exciting for 2022. Maybe it's great to be able to pay $15 for one month when new releases come out; but Ubisoft is moving away from the traditional big AAA games. And they have already released their latest Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs games. Most of their next iterations are going free to play/live-service (AC Infinity, Ghost Recon Frontline, Division Heartland, XDefiant). They've already started to lower expectations for Rainbow Six Extraction by lowering the price point to $40. Skull and Bones just lost another key lead developer. Prince of Persia remake is indefinitely delayed. And Avatar has no release date yet. Their upcoming AAA lineup is just not immediately exciting. Their back catalog would be really nice but their titles are constantly on deep deep sale. I would like it if included at no price increase for GP. But that's not going to happen.

I haven’t worn a single piece of footwear not made by Crocs in the last 3 or 4 years - literally - and they’ve been the best years of my life, hands down. I’m not saying those two things are definitely related, but what if they are and you’re willingly giving up the chance for true happiness in the name of silly things like “style” or “covered toes” or “having sex” or “self respect”?

If I ever come to a Last Stand event I’m finding and wearing some Master Chief green crocs.

Ken Levine just seems like a perfectionist Stanley Kubrick type and maybe overly ambitious but as long as nothing abusive is going on I say we just wait and see if the final product is worth the wait. Bioshock infinite went through he'll but it's one of my favorite games although a lot of the stuff he cut did look pretty cool
