Three Green Lights | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 181

What's that there? In the dark? That familiar setup can only mean one thing: Splinter Cell is returning. In the form of a remake of the 2002 original, in fact. Questions remain, however. Is Ubisoft Toronto the studio that should be undertaking this project? Should a Splinter Cell remake be undertaken at all? We discuss. Even more Chris-centric news occurred this week, too, as rumors of Bully 2 from Rockstar persist, while Sony quietly made a first party purchase in the form of Valkyrie Entertainment, though it's nothing to be over-the-moon about. Also: Babylon's Fall gets a release date, all indications are Persona 3 is getting a current-gen console release, new DualSense (and console) colors arrive for PlayStation 5, and more. Then: Listener questions! What's a good way for a non-creative to work in the gaming industry? Is the use of the word 'biome' out of control? Are we making too much out of upgrade pricing? Took me more time than I'd care to admit to realize, that Chris is in the thumbnail.

Jiminy Glick is funny and now you got me watching old clips.

PlayStation faceplates is a win for consumers so you don't have to buy a new console - and a win for Sony because the profit margins are way higher than a new console sale as well?

You should hear how far and how long comedian Bert Kreischer took the Santa Claus stuff with his daughters. He had them going into their teens. Hilarious story but complete insanity While we're talking about new terms like biome, "goal to go" and "red area" suddenly being a thing in football drives me nuts.

The part about Microsoft's Xbox documentary was disappointing hearing that Colin hasn't seen bedroom's to billions the unofficial PlayStation documentary (it's essentially official) I know Dustin and Chris said they saw it, but it is worth a watch for anyone who is a hardcore PlayStation fan. Ya boi Mr ASMR himself Mark Cerny has a quote about our beloved Resistance Fall of Man. To paraphrase he said it was the hardest project he has ever worked on, and that includes being lead system architect not to mention all the games that he has had hands developing since Marble madness. Some day insomniac, some day Nathan Hale will make a triumphant return. The doc is heavy on the PSX/PS1 days including Sony imagesoft. But it breezes over the PS2 through PS4 era which was disappointing. Colin occasionally gushes about Rebellion, not sure if he realizes the doc was published by them. This is not the best doc, the Xbox doc is better paced. But as Dustin said it has all the usual suspects, Cerny, Jaffe, Phil Harrison, Kojima and more. To be honest I'm stunned that Microsoft got Don Matrick to appear in their doc. Was it me or was there a lot of stock footage of Angry Joe, and the G4 crew (Sessler, Pereira, Webb) through out the series. Maybe someday we will get an official PlayStation documentary. Hope someone covers the official PlayStation store in SF's Metreon (launch HQ of the PS2, PSP, PS3) that shut down before the PS4 launch sometime.

I can't wait for Sam Fisher NFT pink goggles! I don't trust modern Ubisoft to make a good Splinter Cell game they even botched the Prince Of Persia remake reveal

In case the millions (and millions) of Final Fantasy XIV fans haven’t answered the question Colin posed, the chip shortage is the reason that they can’t expand the server capacity now. They’ve come out and said that they had plans to expand and add more servers but Covid created a massive shortage as we all know by now. They don’t even know if they’d be able to get this fixed within the next year or 2.

I have to say I'm still confused by the document deletion. Just wanted to let you know that you can permanently share a folder with Dustin and Chris in Google Docs, so the whole argument of reusing the same link can be sidestepped by instead just sharing the link to the directory instead of to a specific document. I agree with other critics that I find it odd to delete the document. Cloud storage is so cheap that having separate files for each episode should really never become an issue of space or organization.

LastStandMedia

Yes, but I think it may be deeper: Few people will be interested in multiple, serendipitously keeping the channels fuller than they'd otherwise be!

LastStandMedia

Yeah, I'll need to look into that. I'm honestly not drawn to gaming documentaries, etc. I think it's because I like telling those stories myself.

I still don't understand the appeal of splinter cell. I love stealth games but splinter cell is one of the weakest stealth series. I'm glad it's back so maybe people will shut up about it lol Also, I wonder why Colin hasn't played metroid dread. I really think he'll like it

2 reasons for the “Platinum bump” are 1. NOBODY makes character action games anymore, everything is Dark Souls this or RPG that. Devil May Cry 5 was such a great exception. (I know there are some undies like Ultra Age trying to have that faster combat) 2. Hideki Kamiya himself, and even Mikami, have a fairly spotless record when they’re in charge, and I think you understand why many consider either some of the greatest living game directors. Most Platinum duds were games that they had little involvement in. Also, the gameplay for Babylon’s Fall from the December 2019 State of Play actually looked good. Who knows WHAT happened to that…

There is so much potential for a Bully 2 to parody today's high school culture. Much like the first game had cliques of nerds, greasers, rich kids and jocks I can picture a new game with cliques of SJWs, alt rights, weebs, cyber bullies, furries, and social media influencers.

DB Cooper

Dustin makes a great point; agents and managers do stupid shit like that ALL of the time. Totally possible.

Daniel Rivas

I just realized that's Chris in the thumbnail 🤣

Santa opinions… from three bros with no kids. Love y’all but you don’t know. Maybe one day you might. The magic of Christmas is special. You do you, but my wife and I pull out all the stops
