30 Questions With Colin | Sacred Symbols+ Episode 136

It's been more than two months since we last did a Colin-centric + mailbag, and this episode seeks to break the trend. Better yet, while we went through last go around, this time there are 30 inquiries in the hopper. So let's chat about subjects like the meaning of criticism and reviews, whether games have become too complex, which Microsoft-owned studio makes the most sense with PlayStation, and dive deep into games, both real and hypothetical, ranging from The Getaway and The Last of Us to Infamous and BioShock. Put on your thinking caps and hit play.

Almost done with the episode and it’s a great episode so far, you have a few good points when it came to your MGS 3 answer about criticism. I hope you don’t see my comment on it as just hating to hate because I didn’t want to come off as that. It didn’t sit right that you were weeks from dropping the episode from finishing the game and maybe that unfairly set the tone I heard your views through. That and as a person who loves history, Cold War history being near the top of my interest, I was hoping you would of enjoyed it more. Awesome take on a TLoU3, I didn’t even really think of a prequel. But I agree the Elle story is done and I think taking a chance on a Abby story is too divisive. Take it easy and looking forward to friday

Colin, any interest in doing a retrospective on the new Castlevania advance collection in the future? I know Daemon was playing through from listening to him on Game Scoop in the past couple weeks, it would be cool to hear you guys link up again to discuss. Just an idea for fun, no pressure at all.

On the video version specifically I’m experiencing a thing around 1 hour 10 minutes that seems to be the outro audio playing over Colin. I checked my podcast version and it was fine

Would love a TLoU 3, but given how the second one ends with the boat making it to Catalina island, I feel the story with the fireflies needs to be completed with something involving Ellie sacrificing herself for a cure coming full circle. Though Joel the missing years would be amazing also.

Great mailbag episode. Inquiring minds would like to know, when the hell will we see Ken Levine’s next game. It’s been a long time, I understand it’s incredibly ambitious, but we have not heard a peep since 2017.

No resistance talk hurts my heart

With reference to the fan boy-ism, I have always pictured these people without the means to be able to afford more than one console. These could be younger people relying on their parents buying them things or just young adults unable to afford more than one. When you are only able to choose one platform for whatever reason then you feel the need to defend your choice regardless. Iam lucky enough to own a PS5, Xbox Series X and a PC and I can see the pros and cons of each. I’m sure if you gave a PS5 fanboy a free Xbox Series X (or vice versa) they would feel less of a need to show so much hate towards the other.

I just wanna say you shouldn’t be overwriting your show document every week. I think you said it last week and said it again on this mail bag. Storage is virtually free these days and keeping show notes for historical purposes would be a good thing to do. Especially since it’s much easier to search on than the audio files. My 2 cents on that.

Some people are too close to the products they love, and they can't accept other people's criticism. I love TLoU2, as an example... people shit-talking it doesn't hurt me at all. Y'know.

LastStandMedia

A retrospective? I'm not sure about that... though I'll continue to play through them and talk about them on the show.

LastStandMedia

No need, really. Everything that's written down is in the show. I don't need folders of documents I'll never look at again.

Shoutout to Secret of Evermore! Gem of a game I’ve never heard anyone talk about.

For me it’s just for shits and giggles…I could never see myself buying an Xbox, which is partly due to being able to only invest so much time into my PS5 and Switch slate of titles. I could easily afford a Series X, but have decided to cop a Switch OLED to replace my launch one since I enjoy the mobile side of things. I wil dabble with Xbox Cloud Gaming on my iPhone/iPad with new accounts that I get for free with my monthly purchase of Trolli Sour Worms and new emails accounts but can’t get on board with Microsoft, so will milk them from the outside...played Psychonauts 2, The Artful Escape, and 12 Minutes for free and just got another free month to play Sable. If I were to get an Xbox, it would sacrifice all the enjoyment of being able to jokingly shit on the dearth of 1st party quality coming out of Xbox Game Studios and of course the Halo Infinite campaign if it gets an 8 out of 10 somewhere to call it a failure…I mean it’s fun stuff and I’m 35.

Good point Colin, I listen to this Apple and Mac podcast called Maccast and the guy is so crazy with backup for reasons that are not clear…other than perhaps to reference in regards to tech tips and what not…the guy uses super duper cloning, back blaze cloud backup, Time Machine backups, network attached storage to a drobo and sneaker nets drives to relative houses on a monthly basis for safe keeping. It’s like overkill for recordings and show notes.

Growing up being one of maybe two people who played games other than Fifa. Loves WWE and read comics (preferably DC) has definitely taught me not to care about others criticisms about things I love.
