Deathloop Spoilercast and Review Discussion | Sacred Symbols+ Episode 134

After countless teasers, State of Play presentations, trailers, and previews, Deathloop is finally here. While the marketing was arguably a bit oversaturated by the time it was released, Deathloop still had many players in anticipation due to the studio behind it. Since 2012 with the release of Dishonored, Arkane has risen to become a fan favorite studio, with to its dedication to immersive sim gameplay. Despite titles like Dishonored 2 and Prey releasing to critical and fan acclaim, both unfortunately suffered from poor sales, leaving fans wondering if Arkane would take a more commercial route with their next title. Now that we've finally played Deathloop, does it take a more casual approach, or does it stick to what fans love about Arkane games?

If Colin is the dad and Chris and Dustin are the sons, Rick is the cool uncle.

Damn as someone who loved this game, platinumed it and got max rank as Julianna; this was such a downer of a listen. Love y’all! But man that was negative

I tried the first dishonored and Prey, I couldn't get into either. But I loved deathloop, not a 10, but a 9. I thought the writing was fantastic. But that ending did leave ap sour taste I'm my mouth

Reasonable minds can differ! Unfortunately, I can only give my personal opinions on these things, but while I didn't love it, I liked it well enough! -Rick

What happened to waiting for Colin to finish it to do a spoiler cast? I was keen to hear his final take :(

Is it so far fetched to believe that the IGNs and gamespots gave this game a 10 for no more of a reason than because it has two black main characters. I am not saying a game with black protagonists shouldn’t ever be a 10, it don’t matter what or whom you are as long as the game comes through in the end to deserve a 10

I played this for about 8 hours, the structure of the game is interesting but the complicated menus and objectives infuriated me. I can't see myself going back to finish this.

I loved the game. But I found everything about the menus and tutorials to be way too convoluted. In the end, the game ended up being very straight forward....where you just chip away toward a predetermined path until the end. Yeah, there is freedom, but it also has a very clear path in hindsight. (haven't listened to the spoilercast yet). It's not a 10/10 for me....but it was a very enjoyable time. I loved gameplay and Cole and Julianna dynamics (the ending kind of sucked though)

I cannot believe no one from the panel watch the VGC video that explains how this game is in the Dishonored universe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FusT3EU1dc. It explains how Colt was in a loop before and escaped but then his wife died, so he goes back in to try and find a way to bring her back not knowing he has a daughter. Also, there is another video where you can find a bunker of spies that basically uncovers the game for you, which is just a cool twist. I would have thought Rick would bring this up after his in-depth study of Returnal.

I played 3-4 hours, and saw where the game was going, and just couldn't make myself finish. I found it very easy, and not very fulfilling. I do not understand how this game was getting so many 10/10s, but then again, I am not a game reviewer! I would give it maybe a 6-7/10, and that is mostly on the novelty and art direction

Don't think he is going to finish it, didn't sound like it on last week's Sacred.

I played this game for about 6 hours and after being inundated with all the same things turned you off (complicated menus systems, objectives), I dropped the game picked up Doom Eternal again. I'll probably get back to it down the line, probably in a year, but this game does not resonate with me right now. I only wish I figured that out soon enough to get a refund on steam, but oh well.

Good stuff…Colin has gotten too corporate. He didn’t vet the run of show. He gonna diarrhea the Kena spoilercast out too haha

The Eclectic Gamer

The menus are not complicated…at the end of each portion of the day you harvest what you don’t want concerning trinkets and gain residuum…if something is rare and you don’t wanna risk losing you try to infuse right then and there. At the end of the day, you reflect on what you want to bring over and spend all residuum. The objectives were drop dead simple…pick a visionary quest and do as much as you can until it prompts you for something else… the other objectives were just to add other markers on the map.

a year later, is full find this game awesome. the thing that excites me most is the fact that it is so authentic to the 60s mod counterculture. like it's *oozing* with character from that. which i don't think is something that has been explored in a game before. so being able to traverse an entire world from that perspective was beyond exciting.

matt admitting he didn't beat this game is the biggest tragedy of the entire sacred symbols universe. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
