Playing MGS2 some 20 years after its initial release on PlayStation 2 in 2001 is... well... it's an experience. In fact, it's completely and eerily prescient. What starts out innocently enough as a conspiracy theory-laden, Solid Snake-driven adventure ends up turning into a shockingly timely commentary on technology, war, government, and humanity itself. Snake's and Raiden's adventure through the Tanker and Big Shell is widely considered one of gaming history's greatest, and after giving it another go with fresh, modern eyes, we're pleased to say it's still a tour de force. There's so much underneath the surface, in fact, that we don't even know where to begin or end (much like the Patriots' ubiquitous control over society).

I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!

Jacob

woah you never played through MGS3 Colin? that’s an essential playstation classic!

meijin3

Sweeet!

Raiden something happened to me last Thursday when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go - I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky, to the east! It was moving very irregularly... suddenly there was intense light all around me - and when I came to, I was home.

Lol, ‘Matthew Bourne’ played by ‘Jason Damon’ 😉

John the Nabo

Cant wait for the mgs3 episode in two years <3

Remington James

In Houston with no power right now due to the storm. Gonna let this episode guide me to the light 😂

The entire Rose + Jack “Do you remember what day tomorrow is” was something that happened between Kojima and his Wife. Kojima forgot his Anniversary because he was so wrapped up in his own work. It was Kojima not only taking inspiration from real events, but also publicly shaming himself for doing it. Kojima is a weird dude, but that’s what makes him endearing.

Michael Thew

They said they did MGS on knockback, which episode is that?

Super bummed to hear about what Dagan is going through. I know he probably doesn’t want to make a big deal about it, but I’m glad he’s in good spirits

LastStandMedia

He's going through it pretty bad, lately. He puts on a good face, unlike anyone I know. That's always been him.

Great episode! As you guys were talking about MGS2 I quickly thought about Peace Walker and MGS5. Would love to hear what you guys think about Big Boss’s private military and the politics there. Keep it up!!

Joe McPartlin

Colin Moriarty....MGS3 is SO GOOD! The theme song alone remains stuck in my head almost 20 years later. Make sure you play the Subsistence version. Can't wait for that episode

TROTMAC96

I think Colin will really love MGS3 with the Cold War dynamic. Probably the best game in the series, imo.

Edwin Magana

I’ll never forget my Dad telling us the story about how he went to EB games and simply asked the following, “Do you guys have that new game for PS2 with the really long name”. Awesome little Xmas story.

Psycho mantis part 2 happens in mgs4 ;)

Perfect platypus

Great episode, memory's of getting the demo with Zoe rented from blockbuster ! So pumped to hear you are up for coming to the UK for a live show. Would absolutely be there for that can't wait.

Peter Pham

Glad you guys are going to play MGS 3. 4 needs to be next bc it ties it all together. I recommend doing them closely together bc you don't want to forget the convoluted story.

Jesse spivey

That dad joke at the end was bad 👎 otherwise great episode

LastStandMedia

We need to give Dagan space to play these games; he has a real life, a family, a job, etc. We can conceivably only do MGS3 before year's end.

Jose Horrach

I'm so glad I'm not alone in thinking that The Bouncer is criminally underrated. Also Colin saying "Women, Right?“ is the perfect description of everything to do with rose lmao

As someone who missed on MGS games growing up realistically are these still playable enough to me or should I just watch a playthrough? I feel like the controls are going to be a disaster to go back to even if I hook the ps3 up and buy the games. I find almost everything ps2 era to be rough now but I can't keep this gaming blindspot forever!

LastStandMedia

Hmmm... I think there's only one way to find out. It's always best to play as opposed to watch, if you can...

My favourite MGS2 detail -- back then and even today -- is the wet footprints from the rain when moving in and out of the tanker. It would be one thing just to have them as a graphical touch, but to allow the guards to follow the footprints to track you is impressive. I think a franchise like HITMAN could really benefit from this mechanic, which says a lot about how forward-thinking the MGS series was/is.

Zack Fair

Yessss Colin!! Cannot wait to see you come to the UK
