At 15 studios strong, Sony's first party family of exclusive teams is looking mighty strong. This is especially true at a time when their arch-rival -- Microsoft and its Xbox brand -- are rapidly and aggressively expanding their development reach. Now that things have died-down a bit post-PlayStation Showcase, however, I (Colin!) thought I'd sit down and go through each Sony team, from Asobi through Sucker Punch, talk about what they're working on (or what they may be working on!), whether I was surprised to see them during the Showcase (or not, as is mostly the case!), and more. If you're a nerd for PlayStation exclusives, well... this episode is right up your alley, my friends.

I’ve been on the more lenient side with cross generation first party titles more so than Colin. But when God of War 2 was announced for both ps4/ps5 I was surprised. I understand what Colin means though because when they showed gameplay, the first thing that came to my mind was this looks like a PS4 game. It was also great seeing last stand media in Butler and getting Colins autograph. It was the first time one of these events was near my home 😎😎

Really think Gran Turismo’s best chance for success today is catering to the PC market and maybe even release on PC. As good as Forza is, there are a lot more people playing Horizon than Motorsport; with Motorsport being on the lower end of the sim spectrum (which is why Turn 10 has been taking a lot of time with the next one). Sim racing fans have moved to PC games like iRacing, Asseto Corsa, and even Project Cars (the 2nd one, since the 3rd seemed to deviate away from what people liked about the series). Either way, Gran Turismo has quite the hill to climb to convince players to come back.

I said it before, but I'll say it again. I'm disappointed that we still don't know what Abandoned is. I was hoping that this was a tease for a new Silent Hill game directed by Kojima. Looking back now though, that was probably foolish hope. I guess my wish for ever getting a good Silent Hill game again is dead 😞.

Sony needs to stop ignoring all their dormant IP. Infamous, Resistance, Killzone, Sly, Jak, Parappa, etc. Not everything has to be a AAA-blockbuster, yet they allow Pixelopus & Media Molecule to waste everyone’s time.

LastStandMedia

Perhaps so. I wonder what kind of value the game would have on PC, or if it'd attract an audience.

Hey Colin, maybe I missed it, but I don’t think you discussed Pixelopus

Colin there are 16 first party studios!

There was a leak recently that Bend were working on a MIB (men in black game) I really hope Sony isn't starting to focus on pre existing IPs because of the success of Spiderman.

KomakiKhaos

Ooo love these kind of episodes!

New member to the patreon squad and it is beyond worth it. Loved your ideas and am excited for the potential future for playstation. Keep up the good work Colin.

Col, why is TLOU the only game you’ll play online? What’s different about it from the rest?

PananaBeel

Has Colin ever mentioned publishing or sharing his notes from SS episodes? Maybe as a potential tier perk? Especially interested after this episode and the extensive research he did to cover all the studios. BTW, Colin, really appreciate the thoroughness of your work. You always pack in so much valuable info into these eps!

Sony has a massive RPG gap. Pretty much every WRPG is only on Xbox and PC.

LastStandMedia

I agree and I don't. Seems their games are gonna start blending with WRPGs soon, or at least some of them. I think Horizon is a WRPG, straight-up.

When Hermen said they have over 25 games in development, he also said half were new IP. So hopefully the other half includes these games.

John Pliskin

I see what you’re saying but Horizon is a far cry from something like a Cyberpunk2077 , Witcher , Elderscrolls ect. Horizons scope is decidedly smaller than those games listed in almost every where. First of all theres no character creation in Horizion, that game also has a pretty strict narrative path despite some cursory choices. Furthermore mechanically speaking Horizon doesnt have nearly the gameplay or story depth as a traditional WRPG. Horizion is a ton more accessible. Horizion is alot like GOT in that way. Very RPG- Lite - ish

How dare you compare child of light to a piece of shit under ubisofts shoe 😤

John the 3 games you listed there are...all on playstation as well?? What am I missing here
