The Incredible Hulk (film) | KnockBack: The Retro and Nostalgia Podcast Episode 187

Marvel's vaunted Cinematic Universe had a more inauspicious start than many may remember, and in fact, the first two MCU films came to theaters mere months apart in 2008. A few weeks ago, we covered Iron Man, the first of those two movies, and so this week we're on to the Edward Norton-led and surprisingly contentious standalone Incredible Hulk film. Its contentiousness is surprising because this movie is actually quite good, though stories about turbulent production may have soured this picture's memory (not to mention some recasts). Nonetheless, we have much to discuss here, including the representation of the Hulk himself, the film's significant anti-war message, some pretty great performances from some very famous actors, and more. The ball's in your court, Mr. Green. Just hit play. Check out our merch store at http://LastStandMedia.Shop A new episode of KnockBack launches each Monday morning. I'm so happy you're stepping into the MCU. There is a lot of substance to these movies than it would appear on a surface level. There are some really interesting political themes introduced in Civil War that I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on. When speaking about actors that were big before joining the MCU, I gotta give the "biggest" actor title to Anthony Hopkins over Norton though. Great episode! I can't wait for more MCU stuff from you guys.

Really glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate you breaking the 10-year-old rule when you deem fit. Hopefully that’s not a call for people to bug the shit out of you since you made one exception. Looking forward to the next one!

Jake Watson

Looking forward to listening to this one today. I'm surprised to see that you liked it though. This means you will likely enjoy all of the MCU films.

The MCU has it's highs and lows but the highs are very high, and even the lows contribute to an overarching narrative, I understand why some might hesitate to jump in after so many movies have gone by but honestly the MCU is so rich I think you'll really enjoy the journey. and P.S. if you're looking for more Edward Norton performances check out " Motherless Brooklyn " , criminally underseen and an amazing cast, his passion project

I actually enjoy this movie. It was made concurrently with Iron Man so it actually was able to do it’s own thing before Iron Man really established the tone of the MCU.

Blake Wall

Just a heads up go into Iron Man 2 with low expectations and you will enjoy it more and it's definitely a low point in MCU so don't get too discouraged but even so it's not that bad

Be prepared for some MCU stinkers early on. Everything after Avengers is at least good. Thor 1+2 are rough in my opinion. I skipped Thor 2 entirely, that being said Thor Ragnarok is my favourite MCU movie. Enjoy Col and Dag

2022-01-23 20:57:45 I enjoyed Hulk hadn’t see it in years still think it’s funny that this movie plus Spider-Man homecoming & Spider-Man far from home are still missing from Disney + MCU lineup Marvel & Disney really should do a deal to sort this out.
