Xbox Sets Their Sights On Japan | Defining Duke Episode 35

Hideo Kojima is a name that continues to be tossed around on a partnership for Xbox, but it appears his work with PlayStation isn't finished if reports of a Death Stranding 2 are to be trusted. Is this a case of a mistranslated quote from actor Norman Reedus or will Kojima play both sides of the fence? Knowing the optics of the situation, you would have to assume that Xbox would like to isolate the legendary director. In other news, Xbox has announced a showcase of sorts for Tokyo Game Show. After Gamescom, the industry learned their lesson that the term "showcase" doesn't mean information galore and you may not even be able to trust that its biggest games are there. With expectations firmly in check, Matty and Cog dive into how Xbox needs to make strong moves to become a global brand. From localization to establishing new talent, it has been a consistent weak spot for the brand. The most important question asked in our show's history has also been answered: would we rather watch our parents do it everyday for the rest of our lives or join in once? It's an Xbox gaming show, what did you expect? A clever third answer just may raise its head... Yes Cog, bringing up the Halo 5 campaign marketing, those duel Chief and Locke trailers were hype as hell, I was so excited after those trailers dropped. I still go back and watch them from time to time, and man, I wish we could've gotten that campaign instead of the real one with 15 identical Warden Eternal fights

Hey Cog, just a heads up on the Nagoshi-Yakuza discourse. While Nagoshi is still involved on all his games, a lot of Yakuza 7 was down by a new director, Ryosuke Horii! He's been with RGG since Y3 and generally oversaw all the side activities and is responsible for the karaoke minigame. While it sucks that Nagoshi is leaving, Yakuza is still in good hands with Horii so don't be too worried on that front!

I want that Xbox/Sega partnership to deepen. Give me Persona on Xbox you cowards.

Correction: the 3 hour online gaming limit in China is for under 18 year olds only. Don't agree with it still, but it's targeting minors not everyone.

#SlanderDD great hashtag for the BLASPHEMOUS gears (2 is the goat!) and Halo takes ;) Love ya guys, thanks for another great week

The thumbnail should've just been the xbox logo red. But that's neither here nor there. Great episode! Woooooo!

Thoughts on the open world discussion - I would love to see what a AAA game could do with a smaller world size maybe something like Arkham City but absolutely packed with detail on current gen hardware

Another great show bois!

Thoughts on Psychonauts 2 localization and Xbox localization as a whole. What is enough? Psychonauts 2 supported 6 languages out the gate. English, Italian, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and German. As a comparison The Last of Us 2 only supports 4 languages. I don't want to diminish the idea of furthering outreach but why is Microsoft held to this standard just because they have the money. When is enough? 6 languages is already a lot of localization.

The chemistry between Matt and Cog keeps getting better! This iteriation of the show has become a weekly listen for me.

Really enjoying the maturation of the show. I like the direction things are going. However, I was a little thrown off by Cog's use of the term "walking simulator." He was basically describing games that I traditionally think of as point and click adventure games. Am I the only one who hasn't heard the term walking simulator used to describe games like Tell Tale's The Walking Dead?

Mitch G

The only time I’ve heard walking simulator used is for telltale games lol
