Get to the Chopper! | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 164

In 2015, Sony quietly opened a brand-new, British first party team called Manchester Studio. Their charge? Make PSVR games. And so they did. Or, they tried to, anyway. Five years later, before even announcing their project or even leaving pre-production, the studio was shuttered, and now -- for the first time ever -- we know what they were working on and what went wrong. Their search-and-rescue virtual reality adventure sounds interesting, but leadership left much to be desired, and their execution was non-existent. So let's discuss. We'll also get into Call of Duty: Vanguard's proper reveal, chat about relics of The Last of Us: Part II's scrapped multiplayer functionality left in the game's code, wonder at the first-ever release of the original Quake on PlayStation hardware, and more. We'll also get into the mailbag, fielding your questions on topics ranging from emotion in our medium and the meaning of AAA to corporate consolidation and an unfortunate catastrophe concerning a Kit-Kat. Released just as I climbed into bed. Beautiful timing. Now I have something to watch before nighty night

Alec Dyer

the Alex Jones Rogan podcast comment had me dying

Michael Miller

I greatly appreciate the beefier podcasts.

Madshibs

Is this a great thumbnail, or the greatest thumbnail?

TheSilverLabGuy

I really like the amount of content as of now and Long Podcast is what I prefer. I love the subject and I eat it for breakfast lol

It was Zesteria that was not well received but Berseria is actually pretty good when it comes to Tales. It's more a return to form than that of Zesteria which had partner fusions...

Richard Duflo

I love the longer episodes

Col, you look great yoked. You need to start taking some steroids then go on Rogan for the third time and talk about testosterone replacement therapy and DMT. Deny the roids tho.

Tristen Wilbers

Just wanted to add on about the LOU multiplayer. I think Dustin is totally right. Remember that the meta game in the first one has you earning supplies and growing your survivor count, etc. I would love to see a greatly expanded, highly strategic meta game like this expanded into a sort of Rust/GTA persistent online space, if done well. People have also referenced Escape from Tarkov which has a similar concept and is very gritty and hardcore. I think this is more likely than a BR.

Call of Duty with multiple protagonists? Harken back to the Cod2/Cod4 days

BryanK75

Yeah, just from a personal point of view...I didn't buy Outriders due to it being on Gamepass. How could I justify spending 70 or 80 euro on a game that is on Gamepass for no added cost? That is an insult...then the reviews were not too great and there were glitches and balance issues I heard about..... so there was no way. Absolutely no way. I won't be buying Back4Blood either due to it being on GP.... it totally devalues a purchase before you make it. Nobody wants to buy a game and talk to someone after and hear 'oh yeah I played it, it's okay, I got it for free on gamepass'.....Publishers need to think about that I think.

NickBLeaveIt

Right around when The Drop was... dropped... The monthly most downloaded games on PSN would highlight both NA AND EU, likely part of Jim Ryan trying to globalize PlayStation more, so my guess is that the Drop will come back once PS can get a hold of games coming out in Europe and America consistently. In other words, never.

Braden Summers

Holy shit I had completely forgotten that the drop still isn't back

Big titty drinker

As someone who has to drive to and from work a combined 4 hours everyday. I really appreciate the longer pods. People just like to complain bro ignore them.

Another great episode and loved Dustin’s Theranos reference. Slight correction though, the CEO is Elizabeth Holmes (not Kate)

Colton McKinney

Chris and Dustin, as someone who plays call of duty competitively and plays the game non-stop each year, the community is generally positive so far about Vanguard. If you read Twitter replies and YouTube comments, you’re reading troll comments. Look at the comments under call of duty games that released the same year as a battlefield game and you’ll see the same trend. Battlefield fans constantly attempt to troll call of duty comments sections. A better indicator would be the like to dislike ratio and views as well. The vanguard reveal already has more views than battlefield and Black Ops Cold War(which the community was not hyped for at all). The real question is with the competitive community in cod. The game must have a ranked play with a ranking system comparable to that of Apex Legends and Splitgate. The ranking system in Cold War is atrocious.

Reuben Barrett

A predator themed thumbnail... I sincerely hope this means we're getting a Predator knocback in the near future :D

Matt Soucy

No human bites string cheese....Dustin is not from this world.

Zack Fair

Colin, I take issue with you as a fellow history buff myself, saying its a Bazooka that destroys the tank on the bridge in Saving private Ryan when in actual fact its a P-51 Fighter plane

Zack Fair

Btw Chris, people in WWII did run up to tanks and put a bomb on a tank to blow it up or to incapacitate it, they're called sticky bombs

Anonymous

Longer PODS are the best…on an unrelated note, The look on Colins face while Dustin and Chris were arguing over pulling string cheese (49:15) had me laughing for several minutes. Keep up the great work guys!

Zack Fair

Keep the beefy episodes going lads, can't get enough of them : )

I cannot wait for the Lockmort edit with the Skyrim talk and Colins water gun lmao

Tony Rivera

why are there ads popping up under Dustin's chin now? Dustin - your space on the screen is being invaded. Do something about it. Lol - I get that you want money with ads but I thought that we could at least be spared the screen ads by watching these on the Patreon-dedicated site. Anywho, hope you guys are doing well. Take care!

Ryan Sherwood

Minor correction, on Youtube the Timestamp description for Quake Remaster says Quake 2.

LastStandMedia

No, because -- again -- we cannot render the video twice. No where on Patreon does it say you get ad-free video.

The Lizard King

Pay to win is the issue with micro transactions in my opinion. Also I love the length of the shows
